What are some movies to watch on a rainy day that feel like a warm blanket?
My go-to is ‘One Fine Day’ with Michelle Pfeiffer and George Clooney.

I dont want to watch cheesy romcoms on a rainy day. Actually, on any day do I choose those...although there are exceptions. Atmospheric thrillers or horror is what I like on those days. The Strangers comes to mind. Maybe classic film noir too like Strangers on a Train or Double Indemnity.

Looking forward to the darker, cooler, rainier days. That is, until the blues really set in, and then I'll have to switch over to The Great Courses and unfamiliar documentaries. It seems that the older I get, the more I need to intentionally pull myself out of the familiar ennui, and for that I have better luck in the non-fiction section.

If all that rain puts you in the mood for an erotic period drama, Black Narcissus features nuns going crazy with desire.

I don't do this schmaltz.
Rainy or sick days are when I like to snuggle in for a nice horror flick, especially of the Gothic variety. I suggest Frankenstein, Bride of Frankenstein, The Haunting, Psycho, Carnival of Souls, Nightmare on Elm Street, The Sixth Sense, Halloween, The Shining, The Thing, The Boy ...
But it would also be a good time to binge-watch and immersive fantasy epic like The Lord of the Rings.

We owned about three or four movies when I was teen. Oddly Sandra Bullock starred in nearly all of them. I still can watch Hope Floats, While You Were Sleeping, and A Time to Kill anytime. It's weird. Only WYWS is any good (for a mid 90s romcom), but it's nostalgia I guess.

I like discovering old movies I've never heard of before on Youtube. You watch one and then find a bunch more in the related videos. Two I enjoyed recently were "Woman On The Run" a film noir with a snarky Ann Sheridan trying to protect her husband who's witnessed a mob murder, and "Pinky" a Southern drama about a mixed race woman featuring Ethel Waters and Ethel Barrymore.
