Poor Madge can’t sell anyway for a small theater tour. Live Nation just announced that they’re selling tickets in San Fran for under $100.
What can she do to get her career out of the shitter?

She needs to switch gears and focus on nurturing her legacy instead of competing with the teenage and 20s set. Write a book, do a greatest hits concert tour, and a quality movie based on her life.
by Anonymous | reply 4 | September 13, 2019 3:51 PM |
Bitch will come on stage 2 hours late and she’s banning phones. This is going to be a disaster. They already cancelled dates. She’s better off doing residencies. She also needs to fire her incompetent manager and stop working with horrible producers like Mirwaste.
by Anonymous | reply 5 | September 13, 2019 3:53 PM |
R4, she’s never be afraid to sell out. It’s all about money. She’ll want to remind people of who she once was which means she’ll write her autobiography and she’s already looking for someone to do a film about her life like Elton and Queen. She was supposed to direct two films but both fell through. The directing thing is never gonna happen. She needs a reboot and for Christ’s sake get a new look! Enough with the grillz, too! She’s never going to be big again, but she should be able to sell on nostalgia. Cher and Barbara can do that and Madonna can’t right now. Right there that should tell her she’s in serious trouble. She can’t sell on her name alone.

by Anonymous | reply 7 | September 13, 2019 3:58 PM |
I'd say she could reinvent herself -- morph into a retro-modern lounge act. Sing popular standards and cover modern ballads. Dress in glamorous grown-up clothes. I'm picturing a Julie London look. Linda Ronstadt did something like this very successfully. Even Bowie learned to dress like a grown-up, and he wore it well.
Only problem, of course, is that London and Ronstadt and Bowie could sing. This bitch has never had a single arrow in her quiver but "Look At Me, I'm Shocking! Look At Me Daddy, Your Little Girl Is A SLUT!" That schtick reached the end of the road years ago.

I live in London and haven’t seen her live. I’ve said to myself for the last few years that the next time she tours I’ll go, but bloody hell £367 for the “cheap seats”? No way! Also, The Palladium has a strict curfew so if she pulls her usual trick of being really late, she will be on stage for hardly any time at all.
Sorry Madge, no deal.

R27 Not really surprising. Her latest album sucks, she’s going to focus on performing new songs nobody wants to hear, the Madame X persona is ridiculous, the tickets are overpriced, and she alienated many of her fans during her last few tours when she came on stage hours late each night. People are over the diva shit.
by Anonymous | reply 28 | September 14, 2019 6:52 PM |
She needs to face the fact that there is no such thing as a popular 60 years old popstar. it just doesn't happen. People will pay loads of money to see The Rolling Stones because they are a ROCK act. Madonna is pop star and they live and die with their age.

by Anonymous | reply 31 | September 14, 2019 7:34 PM |
Her last tour was a disaster. It didn’t sell. She has a deal with Live Nation who has contracts with every venue to always play to 100% capacity. Audiences took photos of the venues half empty. Each tour sold less than the last, thus the reason for the theater tour. Live Nation wouldn’t even allow her to fly her set from venue to venue because they were losing money on her do everything was bused.
She tours waaaaay too much. It’s just a given now. You need to stop for awhile up get people to want to put out the money to see you. She basically tours every two years to shitty new music. People were eager to see her boring 2001 show because she hadn’t toured since 1993, and even that was small after the Sex book backlash. Then her career went to shit in the early 2000s and agreed to perform her old hits again, thus people were willing to see her. You need a gimmick. Her style is so unbelievably off-putting and boring. She needs a complete makeover from head to toe.
by Anonymous | reply 32 | September 14, 2019 7:40 PM |
Barbara Streusel ticket prices would drop to $14.50 if she played more than 2 venues every 4 years. She only has about 8,290 fans worldwide, spread between London, NYC and L.A. Bitch can't sing any better than Madge at this point. OLD. Times Up Bitches. That's why god invented casino lounges and county fairs.
by Anonymous | reply 33 | September 14, 2019 7:51 PM |
She refuses to accept she’s a nostalgia act at this point and that people only want the old songs (and in their original form). You would think she would get the hint but apparently she’s really delusional.
And yes, she needs a makeover badly. That curly bleached hair is tired. She looks better with straight hair.
by Anonymous | reply 34 | September 14, 2019 8:47 PM |
[quote]I’m surprised by this. She’s always been such a huge ticket seller.
It's kind of shocking, really. Her last tour a couple years ago made a fortune, and she was already "over" as a pop star back then. I don't understand how she's dropped so far in just 2 years? I guess her less hardcore fans got tired of the increasingly weird behavior from her Instagram and decided it best to sit this one out.
When you compare this tour to the huge success of Elton John's farewell tour, it's quite striking. Same with Paul McCartney's tour.

Cher is doing 2 tours back and forth using almost the same exact setlist for the last 20 years and she's selling well.
I do agree that Madonna needs to go back to the original arrangements for her classic hits. She has changed them drastically over the years. At least Kylie has managed to change the arrangements to her hits without making them sound unrecognizable.
Another thing Madonna needs to do is re-release remastered deluxe expanded editions of her first 8 albums and earlier tours. These types of releases become and more and more popular as today's music continues to decline in quality. These would sell well seeing as how Confessions was her peak.

I'm not a fan, but I would still see her in a small theater in a heartbeat -- even at those ridiculous prices -- if I knew she wouldn't keep me waiting for two hours. I simply don't have the time or patience to indulge anyone that kind of behavior. She was arrogant and dismissive to her fans when they wanted her. Now that she needs them more, she has squandered any goodwill she might have had. There are too many singers competing for their time and attention, and she simply does not have what it takes any more to keep the spotlight and attention on her. There is no shame in that --she has had an extraordinary run -- but she has to acknowledge that it is over.
And: is that really a photo of her sucking someone's dick upstream? Please tell me it has been photoshopped. If it is real, there is no hope for her.
by Anonymous | reply 43 | September 15, 2019 5:54 PM |
Stop trying to "reinvent" herself. No on is interested any more.
Pursue a Vegas residency, a retrospective of her career, doing the hits.
Stop with the bizarre outfits, jewelry, teef-grills, eye patches, etc. She's got a good figure. She's got good skin. Highlight that. Age isn't her enemy, make it her ally.
Don't compete with Taylor, Christina, Gaga, etc. She's Madonna. That's enough.

by Anonymous | reply 45 | September 15, 2019 6:29 PM |
It's just like a lot of other posters have said, she won't play on her legacy and desperately keeps trying to bring out new music, like she's the latest up and coming act. She's not and she is very, very bad at what she is trying to do now.
Every 'music star' needs to reach a point, reasonably early in their success when they recognise what their 'brand' is and give it to their audiences for the rest of their career. No matter how old they get, they will always be able to play to old crowds and they will still attract new audiences who buy into legacy. It's what being a big star is about. Everyone from The Stones, Cher and gone acts like Sinatra knew their 'brand'. It is ultimately this that makes them timeless.
Madonna reached the absolute top of her game in the 1990 Blonde Ambition era. She had ascended up for five or six years at that point, and during that year she was a definitive music superstar. Then she starts with her whole 're-inventing' schtick. Yes, she did manage to produce some good music in the 1990's and into the noughties, but the constant reinventing started diluting down her legacy and she threw away that untouchable star position she had earned earlier in her career.
Now she's just some woman in her 60's trying to compete with artists in their 20's who are doing it better. People won't buy into her.
by Anonymous | reply 46 | September 15, 2019 6:54 PM |
Chrissie Hynde, who, at the time was touring with the B52s, was asked if she regretted being thought of as an oldies act,. She said that there is a time in every artist's career when you become better known for what you did than what you do, and you have to accept that. It is a very good perspective. It is a shame that her memoir was so terrible, and she came across as being extremely unlikable.

R15 God Control is a great example of how Madonna has screwed herself up....its the only (partially) fun and danceable song on her new album and she puts out an 8 MINUTE video and loads the track up with a bunch of other stuff...the beat doesn't kick in until three minutes into the video....and the song itself is still way too long and has all sorts of breaks. Her older hits like iNTO THE GROOVE and DEEPER AND DEEPER have no detours in the energy and flow, they build and get bigger but are jamming from the start...and this song is all starts and dead stops. which would be fine if it wasn't the only song on that new album that has traces of what make Madonna fans happiest. Im going to the concert but really have no interest in the new stuff. it's music but its not pop or dance music. It's certainly not fun.
by Anonymous | reply 49 | September 15, 2019 9:48 PM |
Cher is still selling out arenas because she gives people what they want - the hits. And she sings them in their original form - the way people came to love them. And when she releases new albums, she only performs like 3 songs on tour instead of filling up the whole setlist with new shit she knows nobody really cares about.
Get a clue Madonna.

Madonna still thinks it’s the 80’s and thinks that people are still interested in “mini-movie” videos (i.e. Michael Jackson’s Thriller and Bad videos). Those days are over. Nobody cares about videos anymore.

I'm far from a Madonna fan or apologist, but why would anyone compare her to Cher? Yes, Cher's tours sell out and are enjoyed by her fans, but why does anyone assume that Madonna wants the same thing? Perhaps Cher derives most of her pleasure from playing sold-out stadiums, and pleasing her fans. Perhaps Madonna derives most of her pleasure from constantly creating new music, and being able to play it live. It might be that pleasing her audience or playing stadiums is not Madonna's priority. We shouldn't assume that all performers want the same thing, especially this far into their career.

R49, "I Don't Search I Find" is also Classic Madonna. It sounds like an outtake from EROTICA. It has a very 1992 House sound.
"God Control" the song is incredible and does not "start and stop." You're confusing the video with the album version, which has a slower intro but once the beat kicks in, it stays pumping until the somber ending.

What r29 said except I don't wanna see the Rolling Bones, too. They all need to retire.
Madonna reminds me of Brett Favre. You get addicted to the cheering crowds, attention, adulation, however, unfortunately, the addiction is more resilient than your talent and/or your body and mind's ability to perform at the level that garnered you the stardom in the first place.
Farve hung on longer than he should have, and so is Madonna.
Pro athletes have to retire in their 30s (Tom Brady is a rare outlier) because you body can't rebound from injuries with the speed that it did in your early 20s, and it can't respond to the commands of the brain like it did.
A reckless, yet thrilling pass to the end zone that Favre could connect on in his 20s turned into interceptions in his 30s. The Packers should have traded him at least a couple of years before he started his should I retire? nonsense.
Same with Madonna, except she's playing an individual sport where she owns the team and she won't, not even for the sake of a graceful exit, cut herself from the team.

Despite seeing the name all over the place, I still have no clue who or what Madame X is supposed to be, and, who, really, has the time and interest to invest in finding out? No one simply cares any more, but that has as much to do with the declining interest in Madonna, and the increased competition and nature of immediate social media. I don't have to dig to find out what the other pop singers are doing; it is immediate, and there is no more sense of mystery. Madonna is using old tactics for a new age, and it simply isn't working. Plus, whenever I see "Madame X," I think of the Sargent painting, and I try to find a connection between them that doesn't exist. It's quite a famous painting, although I doubt most of her fans are not aware of it.

God Control, Dark Ballet, American Life, Batuka, Killers Who Are Partying , Crazy, Sodade, Medellin, Extreme Occident, Rescue Me, Frozen, Come Alive, Future, Crave, I Rise
So I went to You Tube and listened and feel I have missed nothing. She is a great pop star but crashes and burns as an "artist". All these songs from the last alum all sound the same with the heavy autotune reverb.

Frozen was actually a good song, but I haven't heard of most of the rest.

Why is she afraid to wear color?
Confessions was a great show and she looked good in the purples and oranges. Black is so drab on stage.

The negative reviews are already coming in. Nobody is happy hearing the new songs and are pissed that the few old songs she does sing are the same ones she’s performed countless times.

She was THREE HOURS LATE? Fuck, I hate that shit.

She bans cell phones at her show but had no problem texting the whole time she was at "Hamilton" when it was downtown.

Yes indeed, we too use "cookies." Take a look at our privacy/terms or if you just want to see the damn site without all this bureaucratic nonsense, click ACCEPT. Otherwise, you'll just have to find some other site for your pointless bitchery needs.
