He's got one ticket to paradise.

Aw. Like ol' EDDIE.

His "I Wanna Go Back" song always makes me wistful.

Every since Valerie Harper died, these threads are pointless.

by Anonymousreply 3September 13, 2019 2:41 PM

He only had twp hits, "Take Me Home Tonight," which went to #4 all because of Ronnie Spector. And "Walk on Water" #9

by Anonymousreply 4September 13, 2019 2:42 PM

what was on his Ipod?

how old and how did he die?

by Anonymousreply 5September 13, 2019 2:45 PM

aw that is sad he was a nice guy.

by Anonymousreply 6September 13, 2019 2:48 PM

Several years ago I wound up at a Perkins about midnight and was sitting next to a table full of people who had just been to an Eddie Money concert. They talked at length about how his daughter Jesse did most of the performing, and in between songs they would shill for some MLM scheme they were involved in. None of them seemed bothered by this in the slightest.

by Anonymousreply 7September 13, 2019 2:48 PM

Which MLM scheme? Scentsy? LuLaRoe?

by Anonymousreply 8September 13, 2019 2:53 PM

Poor guy. Forgotten and now dead

by Anonymousreply 9September 13, 2019 2:53 PM

I remember buying his first hit single and my favorite by him, "Baby Hold On". It put him on the music map.

Rest In Peace Eddie Money.

I remember in the 70's Casey Kasem would always mention that Money was a former cop. He had some fun hits.

by Anonymousreply 11September 13, 2019 2:55 PM

I don’t get what R4 is saying. Two tickets to paradise and baby hold on were both hits too. The ones mentioned I don’t even remember somehow.

by Anonymousreply 12September 13, 2019 3:00 PM

This thread is definitely going to 600 in NO TIME. RIP Eddie. She was a good girl.

by Anonymousreply 13September 13, 2019 3:00 PM

R8, it wasn't anything I had heard of before, but it was a health supplement, which is darkly humorous now that I think about it.

by Anonymousreply 14September 13, 2019 3:04 PM

His real name is Edward Mahoney, born in Brooklyn. Like other male members of his family he worked as a New York Police Department Patrolman until he successfully morphed into music. Has 5 children.

60's on Sirius did a nice tribute to him by playing The Ronettes.

by Anonymousreply 18September 13, 2019 3:16 PM

He's changed a lot. He was looking quite unwell and I read that he had to cancel his latest tour for heart surgery. RIP.

by Anonymousreply 19September 13, 2019 3:18 PM

"I'll Get By" is a great song, and by far the best of Eddie's catalogue.

I've always loved, "Take Me Home Tonight..." For some reason I can't find the video on Youtube.

by Anonymousreply 21September 13, 2019 3:20 PM

"Shakin'" is one of my favorites. I'm surprised that it got no higher than #63 on the pop chart but it did get Top Ten on the Mainstream Rock chart.

That's "Apollonia" who is "shakin" in the video. Of course, in 1982, she was still known as "Patricia."

I love this late 70s/early 80s radio rock era that was popular before MTV and Michael Jackson blew it all up. Eddie Money, Styx, Pat Benatar, Rick Springfield, J Geils Band, Journey, Foreigner, etc. Roller Skating Rock.

He died of throat cancer. From eating pussy no doubt. Pussy should have a warning on it. Will cause cancer! Jesus.

by Anonymousreply 25September 13, 2019 3:38 PM

I remember he opened for Cyndi Lauper back in the 80s when I saw her at Cobo Arena in Detroit. I remember thinking that was an odd concert ticket pairing those two. He was also known for opening the Pine Knob concert season for like 28 straight years. Pine Knob is an outdoor concert venue in Clarkson, MI (now DTE Energy Theater). His last concert was in May.

by Anonymousreply 26September 13, 2019 3:39 PM

“Pussy should have a warning on it.“

My vagine sign reads: This will take your breath away.

by Anonymousreply 27September 13, 2019 3:42 PM

The solo section in "Two Tickets To Paradise" is amazing. Top studio guys just killing it.

by Anonymousreply 28September 13, 2019 3:42 PM

And who was it that said you can’t take Money with you when you die?

by Anonymousreply 29September 13, 2019 3:43 PM

Back in the late 70’s he played at my college. What I remember most is the next day he was really pissed because someone stole his favorite leather jacket.

by Anonymousreply 30September 13, 2019 3:47 PM

According to Wiki, there was a reality show about his family called Real Money last year on AXS TV (whatever that is!). Sounds fascinating.

by Anonymousreply 54September 13, 2019 8:43 PM

Think I’m in Love was a fun hit from the early eighties. Kind of typical punchy, infectious pop from the era. The vampire video is quite funny with the twist at the end.

It must have taken a lot of planning to shoot a video in the MTV age for a man with partial facial paralysis.

I think Rick Springfield would’ve been featured more prominently.

It was like watching a corpse at r43. But to be fair, he kind of was - he was still performing less than a year before death, he was probably already very ill and in the terminal stage. Sucks to be that sick yet have to still hit the stage and perform. I'm guessing he may have needed money.

by Anonymousreply 56September 13, 2019 9:02 PM

R53 He didn't look anything like that during his peak success. Most people remember him from his 80s videos

by Anonymousreply 57September 13, 2019 9:04 PM

He was looking quite Mark Hamilish in his later years

by Anonymousreply 58September 13, 2019 9:05 PM

In the days before file sharing and streaming, artists could make serious money from catalog sales and airplay. With those revenue streams gone, they have to get onstage if they want to pay the mortgage.

by Anonymousreply 59September 13, 2019 9:06 PM

I liked this one back in the day, too. He wasn't a particularly great singer, certainly nothing special to look at...hard to imagine a guy like him ever getting a music career these days. And he managed to stick around for a decent amount of time, considering.

In 1986 I was a shy, awkward kid with no friends. I joined school clubs to get to know my schoolmates . It really didn’t work, I was always a wall flower, on the outside looking in.

One day one of these clubs had scheduled to leave campus for community service. We left campus, split up in groups. The teacher assigned me to ride in a car full of some of the cool kids. They didn’t treat me mean; actually, it was like I was invisible. No one talked to me the entire ride. I listened like a ghost as the girls gossiped and laughed on the ride away from and back to school.

Then Eddie Money’s “Take Me Home Tonight” began playing on the radio. All of us in the car sang as loudly as we could to the entire song. For a moment I felt like I fit in. It brought this weird, shy kid joy.

Present day, I could give two shits about fitting in with any crowd. But, when I hear that song - I smile at that memory...

by Anonymousreply 70September 13, 2019 11:47 PM

I can't find the original video, either. But this is nice. I love that Ronnie Spector was there to share the song with him.

R70, Lovely memory.

Take Me Home Tonight was a huge hit, it got tons of airplay. You still hear it today.

by Anonymousreply 74September 14, 2019 2:02 AM

R74 It was his biggest hit single and really cemented him on the music map.

by Anonymousreply 75September 14, 2019 2:27 AM

He was very down to earth. I grew up in a really rural, difficult to get to area. Airport did not have commercial flights. Eddie Money came to play at a casino. While in town, he went to the music store and basically hung out and jammed with the nerdy high school kids who were forming their own bands and learning instruments. He spent a couple days there and was just a super nice regular guy. Thank you Eddie, RIP.

by Anonymousreply 76September 14, 2019 2:40 AM

Take me home tonight was a big part of my youth

by Anonymousreply 77September 14, 2019 2:42 AM

What's the real story of exactly how he went from being a policeman to a musician?

by Anonymousreply 78September 14, 2019 2:45 AM

I assumed his name was made up by a manager like John Cougar, but he probably heard Eddie Money all the time when people said Eddie Mahoney fast.

by Anonymousreply 79September 14, 2019 2:46 AM

In the early 80’s he had a mishap-I can’t remember if it was drug related - anyway apparently he lay passed out for so long he ended up with nerve damage to one side of his body

by Anonymousreply 80September 14, 2019 2:50 AM

A classic rock station that I listen to was playing his songs today in tribute to him. So I don't really think he was totally "forgotten."

by Anonymousreply 81September 14, 2019 3:08 AM

He'd been in the hospital on a vent for months. I'm surprised it took this long really. A friend of mine was seriously involved with Jesse for a few years but he'd met and become pals Eddie before hooking up with her.

by Anonymousreply 82September 14, 2019 3:09 AM

r78...drugs. His brother, also a cop....shhhh

by Anonymousreply 83September 14, 2019 3:10 AM

r56, wife spent all his money. The family is going to implode without him.

by Anonymousreply 84September 14, 2019 3:12 AM

Take Me Home Tonight was a fucking great song.

by Anonymousreply 85September 14, 2019 3:26 AM

He was never a cop. According to the NY Post:

He wrote “Two Tickets to Paradise,” but he never wrote a traffic ticket.

On Friday night, the NYPD cleared up the mystery of whether rocker Eddie Money was ever a cop, as he’d sometimes claimed: He wasn’t.

But the rocker was, briefly, a trainee, a police spokeswoman said of Money, who died in Los Angeles on Friday at age 70.

“Eddie Money served in the capacity of a police trainee,” Sgt. Mary Frances O’Donnell told The Post. “He was never appointed to the rank of Police Officer. The NYPD offers their condolences to his family."

by Anonymousreply 86September 14, 2019 3:50 AM

Take me home tonight. Thanks for the memories Eddie Money.

by Anonymousreply 87September 14, 2019 4:11 AM

Eddie Money:

GAY ICON

by Anonymousreply 88September 14, 2019 1:59 PM

I haven't listened to "classic rock" radio in years but when I did, "Baby Hold On" and "Two Tickets to Paradise" were in heavy rotation. Eddie Money is only "forgotten" by children who never knew who he was and dizzy twinks who are too distracted with the new and next.

by Anonymousreply 89September 14, 2019 2:05 PM

Apparently when they brought him Take Me Home Tonight, he wouldn’t do it because he didn’t want to sing the Be My Little Baby line. I don’t know if he suggested Roni do it, but someone did and she agreed. At least that’s what I read somewhere when the record came out. She had a follow up album that unfortunately fizzled.
