He's got one ticket to paradise.
Aw. Like ol' EDDIE.
His "I Wanna Go Back" song always makes me wistful.

Several years ago I wound up at a Perkins about midnight and was sitting next to a table full of people who had just been to an Eddie Money concert. They talked at length about how his daughter Jesse did most of the performing, and in between songs they would shill for some MLM scheme they were involved in. None of them seemed bothered by this in the slightest.
by Anonymous | reply 7 | September 13, 2019 2:48 PM |
Which MLM scheme? Scentsy? LuLaRoe?

I remember buying his first hit single and my favorite by him, "Baby Hold On". It put him on the music map.
Rest In Peace Eddie Money.
by Anonymous | reply 10 | September 13, 2019 2:55 PM |
I remember in the 70's Casey Kasem would always mention that Money was a former cop. He had some fun hits.
by Anonymous | reply 11 | September 13, 2019 2:55 PM |
I don’t get what R4 is saying. Two tickets to paradise and baby hold on were both hits too. The ones mentioned I don’t even remember somehow.

His real name is Edward Mahoney, born in Brooklyn. Like other male members of his family he worked as a New York Police Department Patrolman until he successfully morphed into music. Has 5 children.

I've always loved, "Take Me Home Tonight..." For some reason I can't find the video on Youtube.
by Anonymous | reply 21 | September 13, 2019 3:20 PM |
"Shakin'" is one of my favorites. I'm surprised that it got no higher than #63 on the pop chart but it did get Top Ten on the Mainstream Rock chart.
That's "Apollonia" who is "shakin" in the video. Of course, in 1982, she was still known as "Patricia."
I love this late 70s/early 80s radio rock era that was popular before MTV and Michael Jackson blew it all up. Eddie Money, Styx, Pat Benatar, Rick Springfield, J Geils Band, Journey, Foreigner, etc. Roller Skating Rock.

I remember he opened for Cyndi Lauper back in the 80s when I saw her at Cobo Arena in Detroit. I remember thinking that was an odd concert ticket pairing those two. He was also known for opening the Pine Knob concert season for like 28 straight years. Pine Knob is an outdoor concert venue in Clarkson, MI (now DTE Energy Theater). His last concert was in May.

Think I’m in Love was a fun hit from the early eighties. Kind of typical punchy, infectious pop from the era. The vampire video is quite funny with the twist at the end.
It must have taken a lot of planning to shoot a video in the MTV age for a man with partial facial paralysis.
I think Rick Springfield would’ve been featured more prominently.

It was like watching a corpse at r43. But to be fair, he kind of was - he was still performing less than a year before death, he was probably already very ill and in the terminal stage. Sucks to be that sick yet have to still hit the stage and perform. I'm guessing he may have needed money.

I liked this one back in the day, too. He wasn't a particularly great singer, certainly nothing special to look at...hard to imagine a guy like him ever getting a music career these days. And he managed to stick around for a decent amount of time, considering.

In 1986 I was a shy, awkward kid with no friends. I joined school clubs to get to know my schoolmates . It really didn’t work, I was always a wall flower, on the outside looking in.
One day one of these clubs had scheduled to leave campus for community service. We left campus, split up in groups. The teacher assigned me to ride in a car full of some of the cool kids. They didn’t treat me mean; actually, it was like I was invisible. No one talked to me the entire ride. I listened like a ghost as the girls gossiped and laughed on the ride away from and back to school.
Then Eddie Money’s “Take Me Home Tonight” began playing on the radio. All of us in the car sang as loudly as we could to the entire song. For a moment I felt like I fit in. It brought this weird, shy kid joy.
Present day, I could give two shits about fitting in with any crowd. But, when I hear that song - I smile at that memory...

He was very down to earth. I grew up in a really rural, difficult to get to area. Airport did not have commercial flights. Eddie Money came to play at a casino. While in town, he went to the music store and basically hung out and jammed with the nerdy high school kids who were forming their own bands and learning instruments. He spent a couple days there and was just a super nice regular guy. Thank you Eddie, RIP.

He was never a cop. According to the NY Post:
He wrote “Two Tickets to Paradise,” but he never wrote a traffic ticket.
On Friday night, the NYPD cleared up the mystery of whether rocker Eddie Money was ever a cop, as he’d sometimes claimed: He wasn’t.
But the rocker was, briefly, a trainee, a police spokeswoman said of Money, who died in Los Angeles on Friday at age 70.
“Eddie Money served in the capacity of a police trainee,” Sgt. Mary Frances O’Donnell told The Post. “He was never appointed to the rank of Police Officer. The NYPD offers their condolences to his family."

I haven't listened to "classic rock" radio in years but when I did, "Baby Hold On" and "Two Tickets to Paradise" were in heavy rotation. Eddie Money is only "forgotten" by children who never knew who he was and dizzy twinks who are too distracted with the new and next.
by Anonymous | reply 89 | September 14, 2019 2:05 PM |
Apparently when they brought him Take Me Home Tonight, he wouldn’t do it because he didn’t want to sing the Be My Little Baby line. I don’t know if he suggested Roni do it, but someone did and she agreed. At least that’s what I read somewhere when the record came out. She had a follow up album that unfortunately fizzled.
