Heughan's PR is getting clumsy again.

An IG post of a Men's Health magazine cover that is at least 2 years old, and blatantly pretending that it is new (maybe he's just not buff enough at the moment to get the worshippers to adore the 'eye candy'). And having People magazine pick the IG post up and run with it, adding the 'loving' banter from Balfe about his Saturn win, and throwing in a link to an old, old quiz video to underline that they don't know each other very well and are not together (he's finally given up on that innuendo although he slobbered on as long as he could - it was great cover). I hope Heughan IS in a serious relationship with a bf, but if he is, it can be hell. One of my dearest gay friends is in a relationship with a gay guy who feels he has to closet for his career (sport based), and he is probably right. It was all quite exciting and even a bit glamorous at first - sneaking into hotels during trips, secret signals and looks across crowded rooms, snatched moments, loving phone texts, quietly laughing at the idea of 'wouldn't this lot be shocked if they knew', etc etc, but it is all wearing a bit thin. They have been secretly together for 4 years and both saw the closeting as a temporary thing, but as his bf's career has continued to expand, there now seems to be no end date to the game-playing. They always have to be on guard, always have a backstory, always act a part. And the longer the pretense goes on, the greater the criticism if the veil slips. He is getting tired of feeling like a grubby little secret. That can kill even a deep love. I'm sure some, maybe even a lot, are very comfortable with it, but it can be bloody tough.

A hell of a lot of celebrities are on it, and it probably attracts a lot of wannabees and IG posers - if they can get on of course.

It's a smart move - he doesn't have to bother so much with being 'seen' with a 'gf' (without photos of course, just a lot of innuendo, or with photoshopped hands, cropped images etc) - there doesn't seem to have been a Miss September, and October is passing fast. This way he can hint that he's looking for love, he's a player, (although still throwing out a few hints to keep the Heughan/Balfe shippers happy - and spending their $$). And the app could be a possible beard market, an 'elite' one even. The dating aspect apart, it's probably a good networking avenue - some of the members are in serious public relationships, but still it's obviously useful to them. And he can get on with his real private life in the meantime, and with fleecing the Squee Squad with overpriced audiences - still, if they are stupid enough to pay it, I guess, even if some of them go into debt to get there.

She seems to have transferred to Glasgow with her long-term boyfriend in Sep/Oct 2017 because he got into Veterinary Science, and she commutes to a job in Edinburgh in her field – publishing/media/marketing. Agree with you on both counts. I looked further after reading your post and she’s not a stalker. Did you catch that she’s also a “content creator”? The cast of the new Roald Dahl biopic has just been announced, or rather apparently leaked by a crew member, and as speculated, he is in it - playing Paul Newman? (he does have the eyes for it). This type of film seems more his style, and Bonneville and Keeley Hawes are great actors and he can learn a lot. When Sam used to be so hot and new in the game he had really good artists taken pictures from him. This whole series is very remarkable. He never looked more manly and sexy and a little bit androgyn and vulnerable.

Sam's styling and general demeanor on Fallon suffered greatly in comparison to those of Michael B. Jordan (who was on immediately before him).Jordan was well-dressed, relaxed, funny, and even exchanged gifts with Jimmy. Sammy’s Year in Review: Well, 2019 started out in Feb with a bang, or rather a bash. While she may have been selected as the next ‘gf’ after a hiatus following MM, TunaBrat showed herself a callous airhead who giggled at the inept bludgeoning (rather than humane stunning) death of a poor tuna in Hawaii (she’d previously been on IG laughing at hitting a deer). All SH could manage in the boat was a weak ‘Wow’. He then made things worse by one of the most blathering SM posts he’s ever managed – the bludgeoning ‘respected’ the fish and it was ‘cultural’ and ‘spiritual’ and his host was ‘the heart and soul of the island’. Sure. Whatever you say. Exit one potential ‘gf’.

Then SH/JA/PR team decided to go for ‘hetero player’ – let’s see, we had Yoga Girl, mystery blonde, Ochoa, Hannah, Georgia, and probably a few more I’ve forgotten. Seemed to be about one every month or so – usually very young, usually blonde, short, athletic, conveniently offshore, and a shared belief that their thong-clad bum was their best side. Georgia did seem to have perfectly legit business links (as well as a boyfriend and a sense of camera direction), but hey, don’t let a hetero selling opportunity go to waste. Others sprang from an SH IG like or follow, with a breadcrumb or two fed into selected tumblr/facebook sites, and the more obsessive fans did the rest in speculation and dot connection (or manufacture). He didn’t have to do much at all. Throw in a few supposed ‘sightings’ (no photos of course) where he was ‘loving’ and ‘cute’ with the female selection, add a bit of fan photoshopping/cropping, latergrams – easy peasy. Peanut gallery Purv provided comic relief with cute names – Samtina, Samgia etc, and as usual claimed direct knowledge thru DMs, direct sources and special knowledge- none of which she divulged of course. Camuso joined the chorus later in the year. Of course SH may not have been deliberately feeding the goss but he knows what is on tumblr and he could have reined it in if he had wanted to – he didn’t. So hetero player it was. It has been fascinating to watch.

Second bit: Meanwhile he was also dropping the occasional S/C innuendo, despite the denials from Balfe (and eventually himself) and her earlier engagement. But the strange Balfe marriage put a spanner in that. His major cover was finally gone and the pink elephant in the room loomed. This year, from a reluctance by tumblr-ites to even raise the possibility that he is gay and risk the ire of his Jamie fantasist cultists, his sexuality came to be discussed and debated by some bloggers on a daily basis: He is gay, thought so; He’s not! He can’t be! ; He might be; No, Yes, Maybe; Not of course that it matters if he is (like hell), but he’s not; Ah, he’s just fucked up when it comes to women, doesn’t mean he’s gay! (yeh, OK). The debating has diminished a bit but it will not return to the almost no go treatment before the Balfe wedding. Hirsch finally made clear that SH’s OL role was hetero ‘eye candy’ – this had been clear almost since S2, and the show continued to become more and more patchy as Jamie got emasculated and Claire crossed her arms, looked stink face and dominated the supposed love of her life. There was still some fine acting in S4, with SH doing his best with often rubbish scripts (as did Richard Rankin, but Skelton just can’t act). So no noms for SH for mainstream awards such as GGs and Emmys, and if he wasn’t promoted for S1 or the first part of S3, his legit awards noms chances with OL seem to have vanished in the mist. Of course he does still get the multiple-voting fan awards run by JJ etc, and he did get a Saturn award, but some of them were a bit of a joke.

Third bit: Shitner periodically latched on to his laddie in SM banter and seems to think that he got SH onto the Bond consideration list. And of course SH banters back. Shitner is age-ing, and quite a few in HW really don’t like him, but it’s in SH’s interests to keep him onside. Speaking of James Bond, this has been a bit of a success story for SH. He has gone from an outsider, even though he is Scottish, to apparently the front runner betting-wise. Someone (PR, JA, himself?) is spending a lot of money laying bets on him. The betting odds change up and down quickly and it is the powerbrokers, not the punters, who decide, but at the least it does get his name out there – all the more reason to play hetero of course.

Fourth bit: This year also saw setting up of non-OL roles that will come to fruition next year – Bloodshot, SAS Red Notice and playing Paul Newman in an as yet untitled (?) biopic with Hugh Bonneville and Keeley Hawes – the first two are likely to be the most lucrative but the last one has the most mainstream acting cred. So progress made. And he got two honorary doctorates (SH, don’t make speeches, you are not good at it), and hobnobbed with Charlie Windsor and assorted aristocrats. And he was made a member of BAFTA. All good networking. OL remains his bread and butter, and the OL fandom is the major market for his business activity, which has been a real success story in 2019. Some of the marketing has been trashy (calling a whisky, even a blend, Sassenach?) but the OL fans buy what he’s offering, whether it’s his own businesses - clothing, whisky, gym membership, etc etc, or what he’s shilling, or an OL Con special meet and greet etc. And the Omaze date competition reeled in the customers. He has looked greedy and needy to the max, but the $$ have kept rolling in, and that is one of his major priorities at the moment. And MPC does support charities, his support for which seems perfectly genuine. So he’d be happy with the year’s results.

2020

Probably more of the same. OL S5 may improve (may) and OL and the bizarre fandom is still his bread and butter as his other act and business projects develop. Shitner, Purv and Camuso will hang around often being enthusiastically less than helpful , the Bond speculation will wax and wane - watch this space, the parade of cookie-cutter ‘gfs’ may continue or a more steady candidate may emerge, or (please) he may keep his ‘private life’ really private and lay off the PR games. Meanwhile it’s all based on a hetero image and the closet remains shut.

Re tumblr blogs, tumblr is a weird world of its own – all sorts of opinions, attention seeking, snarling, group think, mob mentality etc etc. I find it interesting to venture in every now and again to see what opinions are out there and to revisit my own views – if you don’t you can get into your own bubble of repetition. A few that seem to be a little more measured than some and represent a bit of a cross section are bootsauce punk (sure he isn’t gay); cant resist temptation (maybe), loveislove76 (maybe), its moot point (he is gay). They can snarl at each other but don’t often descend into abuse. The most interesting thing is reading the comments on their comments. And of course there is Purv – a strange class of her own.

Well, we tried Sassenach Spirit last night (a bottle brought back from US yesterday after a tasting event there). We are a single-malt tasting group of long-standing, so it is quite likely that we are a bit biased in our preferences, but even newbies in our group thought it to be overly sweet, and the bottle is beautiful but it looks like a perfume bottle. This foray into the very competitive whisky market is clearly geared to the OL fandom (and the worshippers will of course snap it up), and it's OK - whisky is whisky - but on first indications it doesn't seem likely to have broader appeal in the longer term. Still, good on him for releasing something new into the market and maybe he'll develop something different further down the track. And wouldn't you know it, in the airport lounge some women were asking at the bar for it (and getting annoyed when it wasn't available), and he heard "Sam can't be gay - he drinks whisky!!! Gays don't drink that!! That's a man's drink!!" Our extremely masculine looking gay friend was tempted to lean down and croon 'Wanna bet? We do!' ( but he just moved away - gets a bit tiring having to smash stereotypes yet again).

Just occasionally there are comments here about people who have stopped watching Outlander when they found out that SH is gay. But with no major starring roles in the offering he decides to go it alone and produce and star in his own plays and films.Would not surprise me if he mounts a production of 'The Scottish Play' , directed by Graham Mactavish, with Heughan as Macbeth. Pure speculation here, but I wouldn't be surprised if it has been reiterated to JA by Starz that Balfe is central and that she is to shine at any PR event such as the Oscars with no distracting SH presence. They are concentrating on the averagely talented Balfe to get them those awards, even if they have to buy them, and make Starz more attractive in the moving and shaking re Starz/Lionsgate/Sony etc wheeling and dealing. SH can be pushed even more into the 'eye candy' box, with his performances in support, and the extremely ambitious Balfe is only too happy to be the focus- even the seating arrangements in one of those interview shows had the Queen sitting in her own chair while SH was squashed in with the others on the sofa - unintentional? He knows his target fangirl market, particularly in the US. His latest IG post is very clever - asking them to hold Sassanech whisky parties and tag him in their photos. And the timing, coincidental of course - he just happens to have a very macho based movie being released within days; And it quickly follows a boys pleasure/business trip that they must have known would prompt more gay talk.

The only difference here is the latest one’s age – she reportedly turned 40 in January. And she may have two children. Perhaps he realised he overdid the barely out of teens look? And desperate older women fans can fantasize that they have a chance?

Concerning Bloodshot. Box office at the opening weekend 57.000 in Germany. Critics 2,5/5,00. "Trashy, B-Movie", gay actor Sam heughan is not even mentioned in the most of the reviews. We will see.

Variety review for Bloodshot. Seems OK so far bot not sure that appearing in 'smart trash' is really going to expand SH's horizons. Still, it will earn him a lot of money probably, and that is what it's all about for him for now.

Hmm....the reviews so far are generally not all that great, and SH is not mentioned, or barely mentioned in a couple of them. It may be the beginning of the franchise that they would appear to want, but this seems doubtful - still, if it does well at the box office, that's all that matters to the HW powerbrokers. It's going to be interesting to watch the verbal gymnastics of the cultists as they try to turn this into their god SH's stellar break-out role, which it definitely is not. Is all the game-playing and closeting worth it, SH?

Picture theatres are likely to shut down sooner rather than later. No surprise that Fand F 9 has been postponed for a year (Vin's real priority). I suspect that Bloodshot would have tanked anyway - many reviews were terrible, but at least SH wasn't carrying the movie and corona has given him an excuse - still, cold comfort, and another impetus to keep up (and stuff up) the hetero image as he searches for more roles.
