What Are Some Class Markers in the US? Part 2
by Anonymous | reply 41 | December 27, 2019 2:42 PM |
Liberace really creeps me out for some reason.
Maybe it's all the plastic surgery.

Candelabras are NOT classy

Gold swan faucets are classy. They have them in the Ritz Hotel in Paris.

Are you kidding? There is no class system in the US. It's a classless society. To even speak of such things is class warfare, and that is not allowed.

Are you saying the Hall of Mirrors in Versailles is not classy? Liberace only borrows from the best. He just used a cupid for the base instead of a nymph.

Classy women have flat chests.

No tattoos, especially on women.

Look at the Trumps, and do the exact opposite of everything they do and say, every look they wear or decorate with, and that will be class.

R8, Are you saying that women who have naturally larger breasts lack class? Or that getting breast implants is usually a sign of low class?

Purses?
by Anonymous | reply 12 | September 8, 2019 10:25 PM |
I knew someone from a foreign aristocratic family whose father suggested breast reduction surgery.

Can't have been the Duke of York, R13.

R13, Agree that a woman who wears larger than a B cup bra cannot easily fit into most designer clothes. Models today have to be a Size 0 or possibly a Size 2. In the recent past a Size 6 was the ideal.

Nouveau riche Las Vegas-style piss-elegant over-opulence is a marker for pedestrian tastes—real class has more subtle, timeless quality markers that fly over the heads of the vulgar rabble.

In response to r584 in the first thread-
I recently worked with a woman who (according to her) came from a extremely poor upbringing ("We had an outhouse until I was 10!") from Alabama. She is successful (again according to her) by all accounts- makes $300,000/year, owns 3 houses, travelled all around the world, owns designer stuff- and she lets you know repeatedly what she has. Of course this is new money. But she's a Trumpie, and does that weird sweet Southern passive aggressive insults right in front of you. We had equal positions, and she felt insulted that people would come to me first, even though they had known me for 7 years-she was an Oscar winner, by the gods.
I couldn't stand her, because she treated her people like dirt, but would try to help her out when I could. The last two weeks of work, she realized that I truly try to help her, and would try to help me out as well= but I don't know if she was trying to leave a good last impression. As a wrap gift (i love giving gifts), I gave her an expensive Dior scarf and she was floored. She said, "Wow, you really do like giving gifts." and mumbled something how she didn't have time to get proper wrap gifts and I got some weird fake jewel encrusted voodoo doll. I'd like to think I did the classy thing, but maybe I should have just given her a giftcard to Starbucks.

Nothing spells CLASS like small children in hip designer clothes.

Sunday night BUMP to class distinctions... and the insecure DLers who cherish them!

Beat up Belgian loafer with one of the bows missing and replaced by a twist tie

Actually I saw Carter Burden wearing a pair of Belgian loafers (and no socks) on a slushy Saturday afternoon in February in the mid 80s at New York State Theater for a performance of City Ballet. He was divine and so thin.

Gucci loafers do not have tassels. They have a snaffle bit or horsebit.

One class marker I have noticed in advertisements, though rarely in real life - the women dressed like men; ie, polo shirts, chino trousers, boat shoes. It's a terrible look on women

In downtown Chicago and what I notice is that --what I presume to be rich folk-- they tend to be thin, with beautiful brown leather shoes, fitted clothes, and coiffed hair, and an aura of confidence in their posture.

slightly frayed oxford shirts, well worn khakis, beat up belgians and a needlepoint belt
