The details haven’t been announced yet but that obviously where this is heading.
Darren Criss is Ryan Murphy’s Scotty Bowers in Netflix’s “Hollywood”
by Anonymous | reply 286 | April 20, 2020 7:57 PM |
They look nothing alike.
by Anonymous | reply 1 | September 7, 2019 1:54 AM |
Ugh,her again ?!?
by Anonymous | reply 2 | September 7, 2019 1:55 AM |
Can't stand him.
by Anonymous | reply 3 | September 7, 2019 1:56 AM |
What exactly does an executive producer do?
by Anonymous | reply 4 | September 7, 2019 2:00 AM |
Produces executives
by Anonymous | reply 5 | September 7, 2019 2:05 AM |
Is Scotty gay ? Didn’t Ctiss say he wouldn’t play gay again ?
by Anonymous | reply 6 | September 7, 2019 2:07 AM |
Why does the non-gay dude from Glee get all the juicy gay roles?
by Anonymous | reply 7 | September 7, 2019 2:07 AM |
Smelling cookies face I think.
by Anonymous | reply 8 | September 7, 2019 2:09 AM |
Are Ryan Murphy productions cursed? He has cast some good actors but so few of them ever do anything other than Ryan Murphy productions. Does he put them on exclusive Old Hollywood-type contracts?
by Anonymous | reply 9 | September 7, 2019 2:11 AM |
Miss Criss is starting to get wrinkles around her eyes. She claims to be only 32 years old.
by Anonymous | reply 10 | September 7, 2019 2:13 AM |
He did say no more gay roles so will he be fucking Patti Lupone in this. He could play her boy toy lol. Its supposed to be about the sex industry in the 40s which I didnt know existed.
by Anonymous | reply 11 | September 7, 2019 2:17 AM |
Scotty was a chink?
by Anonymous | reply 12 | September 7, 2019 2:18 AM |
It doesn’t say who he is playing.
by Anonymous | reply 13 | September 7, 2019 2:20 AM |
Criss is half Filipino but could easily pass for playing a white guy if needed
by Anonymous | reply 14 | September 7, 2019 2:20 AM |
Obviously they can't use Scotty because he would sue their asses off. So they have to do a thinly veiled version of Scotty's story. Much like they did with Carole King and Grace of My Heart.
by Anonymous | reply 15 | September 7, 2019 2:21 AM |
OP is making shit up. No one knows Criss’s part. Could be anything.
by Anonymous | reply 16 | September 7, 2019 2:21 AM |
This one dimensional trollop made a whole sanctimonious statement about not playing gay roles anymore and now he's back at it again. Either the straights aren't interested in hiring him or he really loves Murphy's prune juice.
by Anonymous | reply 17 | September 7, 2019 2:23 AM |
[quote]Criss is half Filipino but could easily pass for playing a white guy if needed
Not really. He needs to get that nose shaved down to look less ethnic.
by Anonymous | reply 18 | September 7, 2019 2:24 AM |
[quote] Criss is half Filipino but could easily pass for playing a white guy if needed
Not really.
by Anonymous | reply 19 | September 7, 2019 2:25 AM |
Chink? 1950 called — it wants its putdown back.
by Anonymous | reply 20 | September 7, 2019 2:25 AM |
R17 his role might not be a gay man.
by Anonymous | reply 21 | September 7, 2019 2:28 AM |
I wonder if Ryan will try to convince Darren to go full frontal since Netflix is less restrictive. It is partailly about the sex industry. Though most male actors are hesitant to do it.
by Anonymous | reply 22 | September 7, 2019 2:30 AM |
Does anyone doubt that Darren will be playing Sal Mineo?
by Anonymous | reply 23 | September 7, 2019 2:32 AM |
R23 that dude was a child in the 40s
by Anonymous | reply 24 | September 7, 2019 2:36 AM |
[quote]that dude was a child in the 40s
You don't think there was a child sex ring in the 1940s?
by Anonymous | reply 25 | September 7, 2019 2:39 AM |
R25 but Darren cant play a child which that post was alluding to.
by Anonymous | reply 26 | September 7, 2019 2:41 AM |
At least he'll probably get naked again.
by Anonymous | reply 27 | September 7, 2019 2:42 AM |
In the article dude said its "young and optimistic" so I doubt it gets real seedy and truthful about the scandals of Hollywood. Its also been described as a love letter to old Hollywood. I hope it actually portrays interesting concepts about that era.
by Anonymous | reply 28 | September 7, 2019 2:44 AM |
You can usually expect Ryan Murphy to have a two things in his shows: campiness and male nudity.
by Anonymous | reply 29 | September 7, 2019 2:58 AM |
Why does everyone believe Scotty? What proof does he have? Any corroboration? His and all the Darwin Porter books are so sensational...some stories downright slanderous. Oh, how convenient, the dead can’t defend themselves.
by Anonymous | reply 30 | September 7, 2019 3:40 AM |
Will he show that sweet ass again?
by Anonymous | reply 31 | September 7, 2019 3:47 AM |
R31 no ass will be shown. Sorry.
by Anonymous | reply 32 | September 7, 2019 3:51 AM |
I doubt every actor in this will be portraying a real life person. Some could be portraying people in the movie industry that arent big Hollywood stars.
by Anonymous | reply 33 | September 7, 2019 3:59 AM |
I’m surprised Deadline didn’t censor this comment:
“He paid the Murphy Tax. Good for him for getting this return investment.”
by Anonymous | reply 34 | September 7, 2019 5:08 PM |
He’s so fat.
by Anonymous | reply 35 | September 7, 2019 5:29 PM |
Do some people really still think there was a casting couch situation between Criss and Murphy?
by Anonymous | reply 36 | September 7, 2019 6:39 PM |
[Quote] "young and optimistic"
Yes some people didn't read the article. The word used to describe this project were "optimistic" and a "love letter" to old Hollywood.
I guess this is OP's fault for starting the thread with his made up Scotty Bowers thing.
by Anonymous | reply 37 | September 7, 2019 6:48 PM |
[quote]The word used to describe this project were "optimistic" and a "love letter" to old Hollywood.
Right, because Rock Hudson's life of a closeted man in old Hollywood has such an optimistic ring to it.
by Anonymous | reply 38 | September 7, 2019 7:07 PM |
You know shows exist that can have both light happy moments and sorrowful ones, right? Complex? I know.
by Anonymous | reply 39 | September 7, 2019 7:12 PM |
Not Another Ryan Murphy Name Drop Hour.
by Anonymous | reply 40 | September 7, 2019 7:12 PM |
I think Criss thought his awards for Versace would make him a big star, so he made the big statement (that sounded incredibly fake), but without Murphy (who curiously prioritize his straight actors over the gay ones) he has no career
by Anonymous | reply 41 | September 7, 2019 7:17 PM |
R39, I'm sure that's the first thing that goes through the mind when we read an executive producer describe their show as "young and optimistic".
by Anonymous | reply 42 | September 7, 2019 7:25 PM |
[quote] Murphy who curiously prioritize his straight actors over the gay ones
Curiously? That's like SOP for aging well heeled gay producers.
by Anonymous | reply 44 | September 7, 2019 7:31 PM |
R41 I know so awful that hes found a successful working relationship with a powerful producer in the business. So many actors work mostly with one director or producer. Also hes only been in the business for 10 years, most of which was spent on one show.
by Anonymous | reply 45 | September 7, 2019 7:32 PM |
I'd bet money his character is straight. The vitriol he would receive would be enormous if he walked back on his statement of no longer playing gay roles.
by Anonymous | reply 46 | September 7, 2019 7:34 PM |
R44: Curiously because unlike others Murphy seems to take pride on his gay character and his gay themes and all that jazz
R46: I agree. But Darren made a big mistake when he said what he said
by Anonymous | reply 47 | September 7, 2019 7:35 PM |
Scotty wasn't part Asian, in any form.
Ryan Fave Cody Fern, on the other hand, would have been a more sensible casting choice.
by Anonymous | reply 48 | September 7, 2019 7:39 PM |
Will Timothee Chalamet be cast in this?
by Anonymous | reply 49 | September 7, 2019 7:40 PM |
R49: Right now Chalamet is way above Murphy's productions
by Anonymous | reply 50 | September 7, 2019 7:42 PM |
Jon Hamm as "client" Walter Pidgeon.
by Anonymous | reply 51 | September 7, 2019 7:43 PM |
[quote]OP is making shit up. No one knows Criss’s part.
OP's title is clearly ironic and references the oft speculated-about arrangement between Murphy and Criss.
Thought it was obvious to any DLer.
by Anonymous | reply 52 | September 7, 2019 7:52 PM |
Chalamet is so fucking overrated. Hes a decent actor, but some act like hes the seconding coming in terms of acting.
by Anonymous | reply 53 | September 7, 2019 7:55 PM |
*second
by Anonymous | reply 54 | September 7, 2019 7:56 PM |
R53: That's not the point. At this moment he is way above Murphy's league.
The momento Murphy's productions become quality work it would be different, but right now he is a hit or miss producer. His ideas are always good, the execution is a different matter
by Anonymous | reply 55 | September 7, 2019 7:57 PM |
R55 the execution is usually a hot mess. Murphy should be a TV "birth father". Have the idea baby and give it away to someone who can actually raise it.
by Anonymous | reply 56 | September 7, 2019 7:59 PM |
R55 in know I just find it ridiculous hes put on such a pedestal for okay to decent work.
by Anonymous | reply 57 | September 7, 2019 7:59 PM |
[quote]But Darren made a big mistake when he said what he said
True. It reeked of opportunism badly disguised as wokeness.
by Anonymous | reply 58 | September 7, 2019 8:01 PM |
That's...exactly what Murphy is r55.
Even though he is credited for every aspect of the show, his shows are largely run by other people on a day to day basis. Murphy just oversees it.
He didn't even write a single episode of Versace.
by Anonymous | reply 59 | September 7, 2019 8:01 PM |
I didn't see "OJ" but thought "Versace" was very well done.
by Anonymous | reply 60 | September 7, 2019 8:01 PM |
I should credit for every aspect of the show HERE* .
Posters talk as if he does everything
by Anonymous | reply 61 | September 7, 2019 8:02 PM |
Murphy didn't write OJ either. He directed some episodes and produced aka got it to screen.
by Anonymous | reply 62 | September 7, 2019 8:03 PM |
Murphy produces everything but only writes or directs a small number of episodes of his shows.
by Anonymous | reply 63 | September 7, 2019 8:05 PM |
The more day to day control he has, the more of a mess the show is.
by Anonymous | reply 64 | September 7, 2019 8:12 PM |
Darren Criss said he never really worked with Murphy on "Glee", that by the time was a regular cast member Murphy wasn't even around much.
by Anonymous | reply 65 | September 7, 2019 8:13 PM |
Hes a great idea man and producer and I think hes a good director but an average writer.
by Anonymous | reply 66 | September 7, 2019 8:14 PM |
R65: I highly doubt that. Darren got the royal star treatment from the very beginning when he was only Kurt's boyfriend on that show. Given how Murphy really saved his career over the years it's pretty obvious they have more relationship than that. He didn't do the same with other actors of that show
by Anonymous | reply 67 | September 7, 2019 8:15 PM |
Ironically to what some of you are saying I disagree. Glee and Horror Story declined in quality after Murphy took his attention elsewhere. I'm looking forward to this Hollywood show cause when his attention is on something new and shiny its good. That's why his first couple seasons of his shows are good.
by Anonymous | reply 68 | September 7, 2019 8:16 PM |
[quote]Darren Criss said he never really worked with Murphy on "Glee"
This was specifically about Murphy directing on Glee.
by Anonymous | reply 69 | September 7, 2019 8:23 PM |
[quote]I'm looking forward to this Hollywood show cause when his attention is on something new and shiny its good.
Is it another limited series?
by Anonymous | reply 70 | September 7, 2019 8:26 PM |
R70 yes I think it's going to just be one season.
by Anonymous | reply 71 | September 7, 2019 8:31 PM |
Darren Criss probably though his Emmy win meant he would have offers coming in.
Instead his career is still where it was before, having to rely on Murphy to give him work.
by Anonymous | reply 72 | September 7, 2019 8:36 PM |
Well, relying on Murphy isn't such a bad gig.
These days he's churning out shows one after the other, and he can reliably get his favorites awards and make them executive producers.
by Anonymous | reply 73 | September 7, 2019 8:50 PM |
R37 even though a Scotty Bowers link has not been announced, it was revealed a few days ago that the series would be set in the 40s and be about Hollywood’s relationship with the sex industry. See link.
When “Hollywood” was first announced by Murphy a few months with absolutely the vaguest description, many people on DL suggested that it would be about Scotty Bowers because the documentary had just come out and Ryan Murphy is entirely predictable.
by Anonymous | reply 74 | September 7, 2019 8:52 PM |
ROFL “He can’t play Scotty Bowers, he doesn’t look like him!” Anyone who says this deserves a face slapping of the highest order. Like the general public knows or cares what Scotty Bowers looked like.
Scotty Bowers was a short gay man with a big head. So is Criss. Good enough.
by Anonymous | reply 75 | September 7, 2019 8:56 PM |
R73: No, it's not a bad gig, but if you are going to stuck with Murphy saying you won't play gay roles is even a worse idea
by Anonymous | reply 76 | September 7, 2019 8:56 PM |
Will Darren be wearing his 💅 in this show?
by Anonymous | reply 77 | September 7, 2019 9:00 PM |
ROFL here is the thread from the original announcement of “Hollywood”
R9 said “Will Darren Criss worm his way into this?”
R15 mentioned Scotty Bowers
I was R5!
by Anonymous | reply 78 | September 7, 2019 9:01 PM |
Criss's nail polish schtick is such a poser move to look "edgy" or pretend he's a rocker.
by Anonymous | reply 79 | September 7, 2019 9:07 PM |
Maybe he just thinks it makes him look pretty.
by Anonymous | reply 80 | September 7, 2019 9:26 PM |
Why do you guys hate him?
by Anonymous | reply 81 | September 7, 2019 9:31 PM |
R72, Darren did a film with Emmerich this year. So no, he doesn't only reply on Murphy
by Anonymous | reply 82 | September 7, 2019 9:33 PM |
R81: He is a phony and there's something about him that screams fake
by Anonymous | reply 83 | September 7, 2019 9:34 PM |
[quote]Darren did a film with Emmerich this year.
Hmm, I don't see any pattern here, not at all.
by Anonymous | reply 84 | September 7, 2019 10:02 PM |
Darren is a nice guy and talented but he will say and do anything to get ahead and people can pick up on that phoniness. Playing two charismatic, social-climbing gay hookers in a row tells you all you need to know about him.
by Anonymous | reply 85 | September 7, 2019 10:05 PM |
R85 two?
by Anonymous | reply 86 | September 7, 2019 10:08 PM |
Andrew Cunanan and Scotty Bowers
by Anonymous | reply 87 | September 7, 2019 10:09 PM |
We dont know hes playing Bowers though. Just people assuming.
by Anonymous | reply 88 | September 7, 2019 10:12 PM |
R85, as would anyone else.
I just think he's hard working, driven and ambitious.
by Anonymous | reply 89 | September 7, 2019 10:28 PM |
Did Murphy buy the rights to Scotty's book? If so, wonder what he paid.
by Anonymous | reply 90 | September 7, 2019 10:40 PM |
Has he done anything of note that's not been helmed by an aging gay man?
by Anonymous | reply 91 | September 7, 2019 10:41 PM |
Call me when he shows penis.
by Anonymous | reply 92 | September 7, 2019 10:46 PM |
[quote]Call me when he shows penis.
You'll be underwhelmed. You know what they say about Asian cocks.
by Anonymous | reply 93 | September 7, 2019 10:49 PM |
R93 excuse me. He has a half Asian cock.
by Anonymous | reply 94 | September 7, 2019 11:06 PM |
Criss is in the upcoming Michael Bay film Midway, which he filmed after he won the emmy. Then ghere's the multitude of music projects he's done in the past year. The guy is hardly desperate for work. People keep trying to make it seem like he's been struggling without Murphy because he's just not that talented. The guy has the luxury of choice at this point.
That said, I'm so glad Finn Wittrock refused to get sucked into the Ryan Murphy vortex. He's way too talented to be wasting his time with campy schlock. He's doing Ratched with Paulson (which I'm predicting will fail) but has the Judy Garland biopic coming up, too. Cody Fern could take a lesson from him. That guy is going to be stuck playing second fiddle to Billie Lourd and Emma Roberts if he doesn't start booking other projects. I had such high hoped for him after Versace.
by Anonymous | reply 95 | September 8, 2019 12:12 AM |
I believe OP got it wrong. I think Darren Criss will be playing Betty Bowers.
by Anonymous | reply 96 | September 8, 2019 12:24 AM |
[quote]the multitude of music projects he's done in the past year
Que?
by Anonymous | reply 97 | September 8, 2019 12:38 AM |
Oooooh, girls! Darren will be pumping that gas and fillin' 'em up! Wipin' the windshield, too!!!! '
by Anonymous | reply 98 | September 8, 2019 12:40 AM |
Midway is directed by Roland Emmerich, the eldergay, not Michael Bay.
by Anonymous | reply 99 | September 8, 2019 1:13 AM |
R95: Absolutely nothing he did outside Murphy's project was relevant, that's the reason people think he needs Murphy that much
by Anonymous | reply 100 | September 8, 2019 10:06 AM |
R95: And Cody Fern would be absolutely nothing without Murphy so maybe it's not time to be that picky.
Most actors in Murphy's projects have a lot to be thankful to him (Witrock included)
by Anonymous | reply 101 | September 8, 2019 10:09 AM |
Cross looks more white than anything. If you didn't already know he was part Asian you'd never guess.
by Anonymous | reply 103 | September 8, 2019 10:38 AM |
He has the advantage of looking totally white while claiming he is a poc.
I don't know american politics, but it's really having some non white ancestor what determines that you are a person of color?
by Anonymous | reply 104 | September 8, 2019 10:50 AM |
It's not an "ancestor", Darren Criss's mom is Flilipino. He is a hapa, though he does look fairly white. His brothers Asian ancestry is very obvious though.
by Anonymous | reply 105 | September 8, 2019 11:12 AM |
Perfect tv series idea. Another triumph for Murphy that will appeal to his gay following
by Anonymous | reply 106 | September 8, 2019 11:14 AM |
R105: I was not talking about him, but in general.
Anyway, he looks completely white, so it doesn't matter if her mother is philipino or not, he is not going to face the troubles that asian actors have
by Anonymous | reply 107 | September 8, 2019 12:02 PM |
I love that ass. Him and Kit Harington..perfect bubbles.
by Anonymous | reply 108 | September 8, 2019 6:42 PM |
They are both short, that tends to help in the butt department.
by Anonymous | reply 109 | September 8, 2019 6:44 PM |
Besides nothing to brag about being in a Bay movie ? And does anyone remember Emmerich’s Stonewall film ?
by Anonymous | reply 110 | September 8, 2019 9:09 PM |
Emmerich is gay? Why does it seem he works with a lot of gay directors/producers??
by Anonymous | reply 111 | September 8, 2019 11:29 PM |
I am really getting creeped out by the DL obsession with "whiteness." WHAT THE FUCK????
by Anonymous | reply 112 | September 8, 2019 11:56 PM |
R112, it's always been like that...
by Anonymous | reply 113 | September 9, 2019 8:11 PM |
What obsession? It just never occurred to most people that he's half-Asian until they heard it during the publicity around Versace. At most, you'd think he has some South European genes.
by Anonymous | reply 114 | September 10, 2019 1:08 AM |
Still think he will play a straight person. Super interested in what narrative this show will tell.
by Anonymous | reply 115 | September 10, 2019 3:55 PM |
Darren will be playing the important part of Lana Turner.
by Anonymous | reply 116 | September 10, 2019 3:59 PM |
He probably isnt playing anyone famous. I cant think of anyone he looks like, though that doesnt always matter.

Darren Criss will play the gumshoe that is trying to close down Patti LuPone's brothel.

Darren Criss IS Katharine Hepburn!

Darren Criss posted on his Instagram that filming started, at least for him. He was recently seen with a thin 40s style Clark Gable mustache. Not sure if he pulls it off.
by Anonymous | reply 126 | September 22, 2019 2:36 AM |
Damn the pic I tried to put up wouldn't go. But it's on his Instagram. If hes playing a real person then its someone with that type of mustache.

R130 not really a liar. They were guessing since there is no actual info about this show other than general info that it's about Hollywood and the sex industry. Therefore that brought up a guy that was involved in both.

Maybe it was a test look that didnt work or he can grow a mustache really quickly.
by Anonymous | reply 138 | September 22, 2019 3:09 AM |
There is something so annoying about his face. Do you have to keep shoving it down our throats, Murphy? You did right with giving Ben Platt his own show but can I get another young, actually out, and talented actor on the screen instead of Criss - again?

Louella Parsons

I don't like the Murphy shows all that much anymore. Nip/Tuck was great (in the beginning) and Season 2 of AHS was awesome, but beyond that I'm over it. Glee was a good show, but it came out during my oppressive closeted college years so it brings up negative feelings. Darren Criss is one of those people they are trying to make happen, or has he happen already, and I won't go along for the ride.

Yeah, really a liar. Not necessarily in the other thread, but OP isn't "guessing" in this one. His thread title is "Darren Criss is Ryan Murphy's Scott Bowers" and his whole original post is other declarative statements. That's lying. OP is a fucking liar.
And you're an obsessed loony. Most of this thread is you talking to yourself.

IF this is about Scotty Bowers, Finn would be more ideal, that is, if you had to pick someone out of Murphy's stable of actors.

If Darren is playing Scotty Bowers, are they going to recreate the scene from the documentary where Scotty is giving a guy a blowjob?
It was the most interesting 15 seconds of the documentary.

No. It was a home movie filmed in the 1960s. So he was probably 40-45.

So all three of the lead actors Criss, Corenswet and Pope will be exec producers. How much of this will they actually produce? I feel like actors get these credits for more money and prestige but it's just a title.

Yes I noticed that and it's extremely bizarre. Criss maybe I can understand, but it's very unusual for Corenswet and Pope to be given this kind of credit.
My only explanation as to why this has happened is that it was negotiated with them in exchange for doing explicit nudity and same-sex love scenes.
by Anonymous | reply 162 | September 27, 2019 5:28 PM |

by Anonymous | reply 165 | September 27, 2019 6:15 PM |
Actors getting exec producer titles in name only and having little say in the actual production is a very common practice in Hollywood. It's done when the actor wants more money than the union cap allows for a production of its size. They can now get a raise because on paper they have to be paid for 2 jobs, but they're expected to know their place and not actually try to be producers. You see this all the time in long-running TV shows.
by Anonymous | reply 166 | September 27, 2019 6:17 PM |
Yes but the key is LONG RUNNING tv shows. It is EXTREMELY, EXTREMELY unusual for two actors who are more or less, starlets, to get this kind of credit for a brand new program.

r9, I hate to be a hater but with the exception of Sarah Paulson I think many of Murphy's protegees just aren't that talented. They only shine when working with Ryan because he can bring something out of them, and has a very unique style but they aren't that versatile as actors. Just my 2 cents.

Sarah Paulson was already an established actor before Ryan Murphy. You are clearly an asshat.
by Anonymous | reply 171 | September 27, 2019 7:34 PM |
No, that poster has a point. Murphy brings lots of actors into the fold that the industry is otherwise cool towards. The guy from American Beauty was not up to his role. Neither was Gaga. Emma Roberts was ok in Coven but underperformed in Freakshow - still Murphy has kept her in his stable. Mark Consuelos...
by Anonymous | reply 172 | September 27, 2019 7:51 PM |
Murphy casts out of a few pools, one of which is celebrity children/relatives. Emma Roberts, Billie Lourd, Taissa Farmiga, Lily Rabe, Patrick Schwarzeneggar, Grace Gummer, Chas Bono, Maude Apatow, and many more I'm sure.
Another pool is "gay mafia" and I use the term extremely loosely since the gay mafia isn't what it once was... basically any white gay actor with some degree of success he casts: this I would include Neil Patrick Harris, Jim Parsons, Andrew Rannells, Matt Bomer, Zachary Quinto, Billy Eichner, David Burtka, Cheynne Jackson, Mark Consuelos

There seems to be some PR talk about this being an “optimistic” series about Old Hollywood which I believe is absolutely a smokescreen, since they hired a black actor as a lead and there was NOTHING optimistic for people of color in the studio system of the 40s. And the rise of Rock Hudson vis a vis Henry Wilson’s casting couch is also hardly the stuff of old Hollywood dreams. So I’m convinced that other reports about this being about the secret sex industry of old Hollywood are actually the correct ones.
It also truck me that all three leads are male, so I wonder if this will be Murphy’s all-male answer to “Valley of the Dolls” - (the book, unlike the sixties-set movie, began in the 40s.)

I think originally Fern and Wittrock were meant to be the stars of this show r205.
If you recall Ryan Murphy had an instagram post with Criss, Fern and Wittrock saying he was cooking up something special for the three of them.
But I don't know what happened that only Criss ended up signing on and the rest of the cast was filled out with new guys.
by Anonymous | reply 207 | September 30, 2019 12:47 PM |

It's possible r208, but I imagine when Murphy first envisioned "Hollywood" it was with the three of them. But yes you can't control the timing and scheduling conflicts.

R205, you knew exactly what I was referring to...but I do wonder now if Murphy just had plans to cast them in any of his productions, and not necessarily another one together like they were in ACS Versace as R208 mentioned.

So HOLLYWOOD will be a sjw what-if revisionist reimagining
[quote]Ryan Murphy offered me an opportunity to time-travel to the gilded age of Hollywood to rewrite some wrongs
[quote]we realized television gave us an opportunity to imagine what equality could have looked like then, presenting a new vision for the future by centering those pushed to the margins. As we wrote, we asked: What would Hollywood be today if, six decades ago, the powers that be looked like us, and the people onscreen were given an opportunity to be seen in their totality? That question became our compass, allowing us to tell a revisionist history of what we wished Hollywood could be

So they are going to imagine a Busby Berkeley-type chorus line made up of trans women of color?
The problem with this concept is by including POC in 30s or 40s era studio products they are still endorsing the prejudices of the era; for example the black actress in the still from the link above is wearing caucasian-style 40s era hair.
by Anonymous | reply 262 | February 21, 2020 2:56 PM |
R262 but they are already changing many things by having a black woman lead a movie, a women head a studio and a black writer in the 40s. There will be a give and take. Do you want them to go full tilt and have the character wear her hair naturally?

[quote]David Corenswet stars as Jack, an aspiring actor who becomes a call boy in a prostitution ring run by a slimy gas station owner (Dylan McDermott).
[quote]Corenswet is seen in some of “Hollywood’s” most compromising–and naked–positions, including an unforgettable scene with Patti LuPone, who plays a former silent movie star now married to a studio boss. “The first half of the scene I get to sit there and listen to her deliver this amazing monologue and then she gets to tell me to undress,” he said. “It’s the most uncomfortable moment, getting undressed down to your tighty-whities in front of Patti LuPone!”

It sounds like a Frankenstein monster of ideas: Murphy wanted to make a show about Scotty Bowers but then wedded it to this SJW fantasy.

A lot of Murphy’s ideas don’t come to fruition (Katrina, Charles & Di) and I thought that the inevitable result of the Netflix deal is that half-baked ideas would get the greenlight. We’ll see if this fits the prediction.

So McDermott is playing a version of old man Bowers still at the station then. Criss is a hetero in this? Hope he gets naked despite the hetero sex that would follow.

Wait--where is it said he's playing Scott Bowers?!

Interesting that the article frames it that David Corenswet is the lead, not Criss.
And yes the "reimagining of what Hollywood could have been" is...an unusual surprise.
I really am not quite sure what to expect this thing. What type of vibe and theme it is trying to strike.

According to the page entry on wikipedia, this is the cast:
Main:
David Corenswet as Jack
Darren Criss as Raymond
Jeremy Pope as Archie Coleman
Laura Harrier as Camille
Samara Weaving as Claire
Dylan McDermott as Ernie
Holland Taylor as Ellen Kincaid
Patti LuPone as Avis
Jim Parsons as Henry Willson
Jake Picking as Rock Hudson
Joe Mantello as Dick
Maude Apatow as Henrietta
The only names of characters I recognize there are Rock Hudson and Henry Willson

R273 hes not but I said a version. Hes playing a gas station owner that is running a prostitution ring. Also I've read Pope, Criss and Corenswet are the 3 leads. Maybe Corenswet's role is slightly bigger. That writer didnt share much about Criss aside from his character is a director and dating the black girl. The others had some scenes described.

That's what happens when Criss says he won't go gay on screen anymore, gets his lead role replaced by an actor who will!

Is the guy(Jake Picking) playing Rock Hudson gay?

Oh, I'm disappointed! The original news was that Patti was playing a Hedda Hopper-eque gossip columnist.

My main concern with this concept is that it becomes overly full of wish fulfillment but assume the lead characters will still struggle. I'm much more interested in this than the reality. I also wonder if Corenswet is playing a gay call boy or if his customers are women. Is LuPone one of his costumers? That article didnt specify.

Criss should e hung out by the thumbs until he passes out from the pain. I can’t stand him.

I think it's fair to assume his customers will be both men and and women r283.
