About Last Night (1986)
About Last Night has a good soundtrack with Sheena Easton and Bob Seger, but the acting is cringeworthy and Showgirls-level bad.
John Belushi was originally supposed to star in this movie with Dan Aykroyd.
Rob Lowe does his usual reading-off-the-page acting.
Mariel Hemingway, Phoebe Cates and Melissa Leo screen tested for the role with Rob Lowe.
Elizabeth Perkins has all the funny lines, and gives the best performance.

As what? You mean in the Jim Belushi/Rob Lowe roles? How would the movie have worked with no physically appealing male lead? If those were their choices, Demi Moore and Elizabeth Perkins would have ended up together.

I've tried to watch it about 5 times and just can't get through the entire bore-fest. I do love Demi, but not in this one.

I actually like the movie. Could be the Chicago locations, though.

Sexual Perversity in Chicago was the original name. Thank God for studio heads interfering.

Yes, the movie was based on David Mame's play, "Sexual Perversity In Chicago." This was during the 1980s when they were trying to turn every off-Broadway play into a movie. The play is decent for an off-Broadway, small theater experience. But Mamet can't write women's roles so it was never going to be a great movie.

Love Sheena Easton’s songs “So Far So Good” and “Natural Love”.

The actors were too lightweight for the material. It was adapted from a David Mamet, after all. Elizabeth Perkins caught exactly the right tone playing the toxic, needy best friend who undermines Demi Moore at every opportunity. She's the only reason to see the film other than Rob Lowe's glorious derriere.

It’s actually a good movie, largely because of the source material (Mamet).
I remember there was a Dallas newspaper critic at the time who practically had an orgasm over Demi’s performance. He thought she should have been nominated for an Oscar.

why was Elizabeth Perkins' character such an obnoxious bitch?

Rob Lowe's acting is the leaden anchor dragging the movie down.

I will always remember Elizabeth Perkins' character in this movie for her saying, "He didn't make me lay in the wet spot."

This movie was chiefly distinguished by Demi Moore's haircut. Along with Julia Roberts' natural 'do in Pretty Woman, it's possibly the only one from a 1980s movie that still looks OK today.

I saw it in the theater. I enjoyed Rob Lowe's delightful flexibility when nude, and wondered whether when I was out of college and in the real world I, too, would keep a nose hair clipper around the house. It seemed such an adult thing to possess.
But I still don't have one. Never really needed it.
