The Goldfinch

Are you going to see it?

Ansel Elgort is looking GOOD!

Also, Nicole Kidman is back, baby!

I might read the book first, and see how the movie compares.

I am loving Ansel in his salmon colored pants.

So chic!

It has no buzz. Shame because the novel is great.

by Anonymousreply 3September 5, 2019 8:18 PM

Ansel's stylist is definitely doing a great job with him.

They turned a very average looking nerdy guy, into a veritable sex symbol.

Probably because the movie trailer doesn't really tell you what the movie is about.

After reading the synopsis of the novel, it actually sounds like a very interesting story.

Whoever is marketing the movie, should be fired.

I highly recommend the book.

That trailer at R5 is amazingly beautiful and almost artistic.

Who's the handsome dark haired guy, playing opposite Ansel?

by Anonymousreply 7September 5, 2019 8:22 PM

I’m halfway through the book. Looking forward to seeing the film!

by Anonymousreply 8September 5, 2019 8:24 PM

OP He is fucking ugly, the definition of funny looking

by Anonymousreply 9September 5, 2019 8:24 PM

He's hot, R9.

R10 He looks like Ted Bundy there

by Anonymousreply 11September 5, 2019 8:30 PM

Yes, of course I'm going to see it. It's the first thing I'll have seen this year except Once upon a Time In Hollywood that wasn't a music movie. There's hardly been ANYTHING worth seeing this year. It opens Friday the 13th where I live.

Oh, and yes, Ansel is hot.

The Edsel trolls are as thick as his waist

by Anonymousreply 13September 5, 2019 8:34 PM

The song in the background of the movie trailer at R5, is so beautiful.

Someone in the comments section noted that the song is titled, "Otherside" by Perfume Genius.

I love it.

Is it a bad sign that it opens next week and there are no reviews yet? If a studio has a good film on their hands don’t early good reviews help build buzz and anticipation?

by Anonymousreply 15September 5, 2019 8:55 PM

I'm telling you, R15.

It's because people have no clue what the movie is about.

I had to do a little bit of research to find out, and that really shouldn't be the case.

That's the point of a movie trailer.

by Anonymousreply 16September 5, 2019 8:58 PM

When does the movie open?

by Anonymousreply 17September 5, 2019 11:54 PM

Nicole Kidman never left.

by Anonymousreply 18September 6, 2019 12:56 AM

Ansel has beautiful lips.

The book is uneven. There are brilliant sections and large sections that add nothing to the story that an editor should have taken a red pencil to. Worth reading for the brilliant parts though.

That said, the book is very long and takes place over a number of years, so I'm curious what the movie focuses on.

by Anonymousreply 20September 6, 2019 1:09 AM

There is something oddly intriguing about the movie.

I have a feeling that it will probably be nominated for a Best Picture Oscar.

by Anonymousreply 21September 6, 2019 9:20 AM

Tartt's book was tedious, just wasn't compelling enough to keep me reading. I'll skip the film as well.

The point of the movie trailer is to NOT show you the whole movie. It intrigued you enough to find out more, hope it wasn't an exhaustive investigation. There is no way this film would be anything but an art house picture and may gain an audience later.

Thanks R24. Interesting read.

IIRC, that was a general criticism of the book, e.g., I was not alone.

Now that I'm thinking back on it, she also seemed to get a lot of flack over her inconsistency with the existence of cell phones and the internet. Much of the book is set in the present day, which was 2012 or so, and in some scenes characters had phones and access to the internet and in others the same characters did not, and you'd be thinking "well just Google it" or "well just call her".

I just received my reproduction of the original painting in yesterday's mail. I hope to take it for framing this weekend.

by Anonymousreply 26September 6, 2019 10:37 AM

R26 I've the original.

by Anonymousreply 27September 6, 2019 10:41 AM

The trailer looks like a frau-fest. And the song used for the trailer is one of those supposedly 'indie' bands that are the most overwrought sentimental claptrap put together by well-dressed but shallow hipsters.

by Anonymousreply 28September 6, 2019 10:42 AM

They should have turned it into a prestige mini series. Too long and complicated for one film.

by Anonymousreply 29September 6, 2019 11:08 AM

This Friday, bitches!

Come and see me in all my glory...

The movie has gotten plenty of buzz - primarily about how bad it is and how horribly miscast Elgort is.

by Anonymousreply 31September 10, 2019 4:52 PM

It should have been a TV series.

The plot is too dense for a movie to accommodate.
