Felicity Huffman Tells Judge She Wanted Daughter to Have a ‘Fair Shot’

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 11September 6, 2019 11:17 PM

R11. A “fair shot”. That’s rich.

by Anonymousreply 12September 7, 2019 12:06 AM

I want her sentencing to include being ordered to make a TV movie about the events. She can even direct.

Brooke Shields can play Lori Laughlin.

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 13September 7, 2019 2:38 AM

Huffman just took her first misstep with that "fair shot" crack.

by Anonymousreply 14September 7, 2019 5:21 AM

Lori will throw Mr. Lori under the bus for a plea deal.

by Anonymousreply 15September 7, 2019 5:42 AM

Forget THAT. She’d do it for a quarter.

by Anonymousreply 16September 7, 2019 5:45 AM

Felicity should take the month, wouldn’t she have a good chance of being released within a couple of weeks anyway? She can then sell loads of interviews about her “time” in the slammer.

by Anonymousreply 17September 7, 2019 5:46 AM

That's what the elite does. All this outrage is funny and kind of pathetic. They'll keep doing it and you idiots will keep getting outraged. Stop believing in meritocracy and all the bullshit that comes with it. The world is about money and class, the end. They're right now laughing at you for all the rage.

by Anonymousreply 18September 7, 2019 5:47 AM

^Ain't that the truth. So true.

by Anonymousreply 19September 7, 2019 5:57 AM

R14 read the letter. It's much less egregious in context

by Anonymousreply 20September 7, 2019 6:31 AM

I can't wait for Lori Laughlin and Mr. Lori to go on trial!

They are such losers!

by Anonymousreply 21September 7, 2019 6:41 AM

I would just die laughing if it came out that Macy paid the Lori's lawyers to get them to make every wrong decision. They've royally fucked this up

by Anonymousreply 22September 7, 2019 6:52 AM

Y’all remember back when, Paris Hilton was sentenced to 45 days in jail. She sliced 44 days from her sentence with good behaviour somehow. Yeah, barely anyone remembers that!

by Anonymousreply 23September 7, 2019 7:11 AM

Felicity's excuse seems sincere or at least it sounds logical as she didn't pay for her other child. My guess is that she'll get probation and a fine and Lori will be the scapegoat used as an example. They did spend 500k after all and all that rowing fabrication what a bunch of losers.

by Anonymousreply 24September 7, 2019 7:21 AM

She should serve more than a month. When do we start treating rich people as people and not some delicate baby that will cease to be at the sight of bad luck? Cease to be Felicity, I won’t miss ya!

by Anonymousreply 25September 7, 2019 7:30 AM

Maybe I’m deluded but I believe Felicity Huffman. The letter sounds very sincere and I think the jail time is mostly a symbolic righting of a wrong. College admissions is insanely stressful for parent and child. She did it the wrong way, but I don’t think it was really malicious. Anyway, Huffman is an incredible actress, she commands empathy even when playing heinous characters like she did on American Crime.

by Anonymousreply 26September 7, 2019 7:35 AM

She’s an actress with some brains. Thankfully, Lori blows all the publicity towards her, because she’s super smart, just like her “jeanioexs! jeanious....genius daughter!

Huffman is not an incredible actress. She’s an actress. Hopefully she didn’t ruin her far more talented husbands career by doing something so fucking stupid. Not to mention her daughter. Who the hell will take her seriously now?

by Anonymousreply 27September 7, 2019 7:49 AM

R27 which performances of hers have you seen? She was a revelation on American Crime. It made me want to check out Transamerica but I’m a bit scared to because it was made in 2005 and I think it’s probably a product of a different time.

by Anonymousreply 28September 7, 2019 7:53 AM

R28 Transamerica, I think it’s what she’s best known for. I hated that performance. All I could think of was the Kinks ‘Lola’. “She look like a woman but talk like a man”. Soooo bad!

by Anonymousreply 29September 7, 2019 8:44 AM

"They're right now laughing at you for all the rage."

Now tell us about your dirty pillows.

by Anonymousreply 30September 7, 2019 8:58 AM

I would think a large fine for Felicity should be sufficient - the public embarrassment alone has been the big punishment she has rightly had to pay. Jail time would be a waste of taxpayers money.

by Anonymousreply 31September 7, 2019 9:42 AM

I am really hating all those Loughlin-Giannullis so much now that I hope they not only throw the book at them, but also let Huffman off pretty easy just to punish Lori and Mossimo more by comparison.

by Anonymousreply 32September 7, 2019 10:15 AM

R31 so because she was in a few films and TV shows, she shouldn’t spend a second behind bars, whereas your average non-famous fraudster wouldn’t be able to rely on “bad publicity” as they had no sellable image previously.... I mean, come on. A month-long sentence is entirely reasonable, she should take it and move on. She would endure the being processed and so on, but wouldn’t actually serve more than a few days. That will teach her more of a lesson than some bad press.

by Anonymousreply 33September 7, 2019 10:34 AM

Well not to worry, if she goes to jail in L.A. they'll let her out after 24 hours claiming "overcrowding".

by Anonymousreply 34September 7, 2019 10:46 AM

Exactly R34, she should take the mild sentence and stop complaining.

by Anonymousreply 35September 7, 2019 11:23 AM

She should take her lumps graciously, and leave the whining to the trashy Full House lady.

Don’t do the crime if you can’t do the time.

by Anonymousreply 36September 7, 2019 12:01 PM

NO TIME, no big deal. Cheating and theft is the American way of life. The schools need that money and reserve those spots for kids with wealthy parents. Your MAGAT in thief and his son in law did the same all of their lives and used same mechanism to install themselves in the WH

by Anonymousreply 37September 7, 2019 12:41 PM

R35 R36 did you read the article? She’s not complaining.

by Anonymousreply 38September 7, 2019 5:46 PM

Yeah, she has said she'll take whatever punishment the court throws her way.

by Anonymousreply 39September 7, 2019 7:25 PM

Love felicity; Lori, her husband and their idiot daughters, can go kick rocks.

by Anonymousreply 40September 7, 2019 8:48 PM

Has there been any news on the TV miniseries?

by Anonymousreply 41September 7, 2019 10:43 PM

R38 that article doesn’t seem to cover the fact Huffman’s lawyers are proposing instead a mixture of probation, community service and a fine with no jail time. So yes, she is “complaining” in the sense she isn’t instructing her lawyers to take the month.

“In response to the prosecutors' filing, Huffman's attorneys requested the judge sentence her to a one-year term of probation and 250 hours of community service. She would also pay the $20,000 fine called for in her guilty plea, they said.”

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 42September 7, 2019 11:03 PM

Much better for her to do community and service and give back then have taxes go towards putting a non-violent, low level offender in prison for a month.

by Anonymousreply 43September 7, 2019 11:12 PM

What do you expect them to do, r42, ask the judge to throw her into the joint for life?

[quote]Huffman is not an incredible actress. She’s an actress. Hopefully she didn’t ruin her far more talented husbands career by doing something so fucking stupid.

HUH? William H. Macy is the LUCKIEST actor in America! He has a plug ugly face like a dog's ASS and has the teeniest sliver of talent. He has been giving the same "studied, stammering yokel" schtick he calls acting since I first saw him Off-Broadway in the early 80s. He's a terrible actor, ESPECIALLY when he's in one of those dreary David Mamet shitshows! Macy has been fellating Mamet and teaching how to act (!) in his plays for decades and it helped him up-level his career to tv gigs. He's an incredibly limited actor.

And I still think the Lori's are fucked.

I could do quite a bit in 14 days in the lockup.

by Anonymousreply 77September 13, 2019 7:40 PM

Sentence: 14 DAYS

$30,000 fine

One year supervised prob

250 hours community service

by Anonymousreply 78September 13, 2019 7:41 PM

It better be hairy community service like picking up still-warm piss bottles from the side of the freeway, and not something dainty like giving acting classes to felons.

by Anonymousreply 79September 13, 2019 7:44 PM

Sentence: 14 days

Reality: She’ll be home before dinner time on Day One

by Anonymousreply 80September 13, 2019 7:45 PM

Boy George’s commimunty service included picking up garbage

Lindsay Lohan worked in a morgue

by Anonymousreply 81September 13, 2019 7:46 PM

Ya, didn’t Paris Hilton get out on day one?

by Anonymousreply 82September 13, 2019 7:47 PM

Yeah, she won’t even do 4 let alone 14 days, the shock is the having to show up to the big house and being processed etc, that’s what the judge wants her to experience. She still got off lightly and shouldn’t have too many complaints.

by Anonymousreply 83September 13, 2019 7:48 PM

My understanding is with federal sentencing, you don't get out early.

by Anonymousreply 84September 13, 2019 7:48 PM

Thanks R84, that’s interesting, maybe she will do two weeks then. She should still be glad that’s all it is.

by Anonymousreply 85September 13, 2019 7:50 PM

Watch Lori try to get a plea deal.

by Anonymousreply 86September 13, 2019 7:51 PM

Okay, good. Now the Loris will either double down or throw themselves on the mercy of the court. Which, considering how merciful that judge was, toward someone who plead guilty and showed remorse...

by Anonymousreply 87September 13, 2019 7:55 PM

Right now Lori is probably pleaing with her dealer for some freebies.

by Anonymousreply 88September 13, 2019 7:55 PM

Fuck her. 2 weeks???

by Anonymousreply 89September 13, 2019 7:55 PM

That’s fair, IMO.

I want to see the Loris ground into the dirt, though.

by Anonymousreply 90September 13, 2019 7:56 PM

That's enough. Fourteen days in federal prison (not as bad as county, especially if she goes to the one where you can pay for special privileges) is a bummer, but she'll be okay. Like a bad vacation.

Like everyone else, I'm looking forward to the Loris.

by Anonymousreply 98September 13, 2019 10:42 PM

Oh for chrissakes, she didn't ruin her or her daughter's life.

by Anonymousreply 99September 13, 2019 10:56 PM

No parole in Federal Court. She could qualify for "supervised release" through exemplary conduct. But limited to 54 days per year. She will probably do 13 days in a cushy fed camp.

by Anonymousreply 100September 13, 2019 11:54 PM

But is she gonna get a strip search?

by Anonymousreply 101September 14, 2019 12:03 AM

SHE IS A FELON r99 you fuck. She has a RECORD. Jesus, maybe in your world being a felon is a-ok, but most people would take that seriously.

Her daughter can’t go to any university for at least the next five years and is a fucking laughingstock.

But yeah, two weeks in the joint, no big deal, right?

by Anonymousreply 103September 14, 2019 12:14 AM

I think they should give her two years credit for jail time. She has not gotten a call for work in weeks, and she has faced humiliation that anyone not at her level of recognition cannot comprehend.

Give Felicity two years credit. That way if she shoplifts, defrauds, or murders--anything to take the edge off her suffering--she will get some time off her sentence. It is only just.

by Anonymousreply 104September 14, 2019 12:19 AM

If she's a FELON does that mean she can't travel outside the country?

by Anonymousreply 105September 14, 2019 12:20 AM

She has to apply for a visa to travel to certain countries that normal Americans can just go to with a passport (without applying for anything).

Remember when the UK wouldn't let Martha Stewart in?

by Anonymousreply 106September 14, 2019 12:26 AM

Yeah and Canada (where a LOT of filming is done) is most definitely out for a while R105/R106. Even being a rich felon is a pain in the ass.

by Anonymousreply 107September 14, 2019 12:28 AM

It’s a joke to serve 14 days for a felony offense. Why even make the laws?

by Anonymousreply 108September 14, 2019 5:12 AM

I would pay for a "prison cam" to follow Felicity around jail.

by Anonymousreply 109September 14, 2019 5:16 AM

Pity OITNB is ending, Huffman would have been perfect stunt casting for a celebrity character who winds up in jail for some financial irregularities or other.

by Anonymousreply 110September 14, 2019 7:42 AM

For those asking if she has to be strip searched, the answer is yes. She will also have to squat, spread her ass cheeks and cough as part of the intake process, just like Martha. If they have reason to believe she is concealing anything, then they "dig" further:

"Upon her arrival, Stewart, or federal inmate 55170-054 as she'll be known for the months ahead, was subjected to a strip search and a standard "squat and cough" to make sure that she was not sneaking any contraband items into the facility, a prison spokeswoman said."

I posted this in today's thread about Felicity, but putting it here too for continuity.

They put Felicity in the same clink as Patricia Hearst and Heidi Fleiss:

Previous inmates at FCI Dublin include the "Hollywood Madam" Heidi Fleiss and Patty Hearst. It currently houses about 1,200 inmates and is one of five federal prisons for women in the United States.

I called the 13 days total - weeks ago! If Lori and her hubby really cared about their family they would strike a new deal,. One parent (whichever) pleads to some "real" prison time. The other (again whichever) pays a LARGE fine, community service, etc. That way at least one parent will always be available to their children.

by Anonymousreply 150October 20, 2019 7:20 PM

R160 Lori's "hubby"? Gross. Where the fuck did you fly in (or over) from?

Lori Loughlin Is ‘Absolutely Terrified’ After Being Hit With New Charge

“Lori is absolutely terrified and extremely vulnerable,” a source tells Us Weekly exclusively. “The only hope is that she is acquitted or if she is convicted, the judge will realize the government has been completely overzealous and gives her a very light prison sentence.”

The insider adds: “The prosecution added the additional charge because the government realized their case was weak. The charge could have been filed with the others back in the spring.”

by Anonymousreply 160October 24, 2019 3:44 PM

Two months in the clink for this guy, who pleaded guilty to fewer charges than what the Lori's are digging their heels in the sand over. Delicious!

Well, unless Lori and hubby change their plea/plans, I see them getting 4 months, tops. 2 months served probably

by Anonymousreply 162October 31, 2019 6:33 PM

I thought they couldn't plea after a certain point, but perhaps exceptions are made when the stakes are high enough. The court may be leaning on them so it *doesn't* go to trial, in order to spare resources, etc. She had her chance, but hubris, cocaine, and courtstep autograph sessions got in the way. She double downed so hard initially that she's essentially fucked. At least Mr. Lori stayed quiet, while she was flashing her yoga camel toe on the pap stroll every week. I would be completely stunned for a jury to find her not guilty of ALL charges, and if the court does allow her and Mr Lori to plea, neither Lori is going to be looking at just a few weeks. Their charges were among the most agregious of the lot that we know of so far.

This also doesn't take into account any other suits that may be filed against them in future: IRS, etc.

I CAN'T WAIT!

Gorton will sentence four other parents in the early part of 2020 who changed their pleas as a third charge of bribery was about to hit them. He is also set to preside over Lori Loughlin's case. "

USC questioned whether Lori Loughlin’s daughters were really athletes a year before admissions scandal.

These two are fucking trash:

"Giannulli told the development official: “Thanks so much, I think we are squared away.” He forwarded the emails to his wife that night, adding, “The nicest I’ve been at blowing off somebody.”

In March 2018, several high schools had contacted USC, puzzled that certain students were being admitted as recruited athletes. Marymount High School, attended by actress Lori Loughlin’s two daughters, “doesn’t think either of the students are serious crew participants,” a USC employee wrote in an email.

Donna Heinel, the third-ranking administrator in USC’s athletic department, was asked to investigate. She reported back the next day: Loughlin’s younger daughter rowed for a “competitive” club and USC’s coach “thinks she has talent,” she wrote.

A year later, Heinel was arrested and charged with arranging dozens of deals to sneak unqualified students into USC, including Loughlin’s daughters.

Prosecutors disclosed emails on Wednesday showing Heinel was tasked with probing the very fraud she allegedly perpetrated.

The messages were filed in federal court along with another 480 pages of emails, transcripts of recorded calls and financial and academic records that significantly widen the aperture on William “Rick” Singer’s college admissions scam.

An attorney for Heinel and a spokesman for USC didn’t immediately respond to requests for comment.

In a motion filed on Wednesday, Eric S. Rosen, an assistant U.S. attorney, addressed complaints lodged by defense attorneys, who had argued Rosen and his colleagues were withholding evidence favorable to their clients. He took aim at an argument floated by Loughlin and her husband, Mossimo Giannulli, that the two believed their $500,000 payment to Singer would go towards legitimate donations to USC.

The couple “specifically rejected this ‘legitimate’ approach,” Rosen wrote, pointing to an email exchange between Giannulli and an official in USC’s development office. With the fashion designer’s older daughter applying in 2016, the official, whose name is redacted in the emails, offered to “flag” her application and asked “if I can be at all helpful in setting up a 1:1 opportunity for her, customized tour of campus for the family, and/or classroom visit.”

Giannulli was already conspiring with Singer to pass off the girl as an elite coxswain, prosecutors say. Singer had requested “a picture with her on an ERG [rowing machine] in workout clothes like a real athlete.”

Six days before the USC official’s email, Giannulli fielded one from Singer: “Got it all. Profile is being made as a coxswain and USC is awaiting my packet with the transcript, test scores and profile.”

Giannulli told the development official: “Thanks so much, I think we are squared away.” He forwarded the emails to his wife that night, adding, “The nicest I’ve been at blowing off somebody.”

Loughlin and Giannulli have pleaded not guilty to conspiracy to commit fraud, money laundering and bribery and have denied any wrongdoing. Heinel has also pleaded not guilty to conspiracy to commit racketeering, fraud and bribery.

The stress is already starting to erode Lori and Mr. Lori's looks, so a few years in the clink will likely do one hell of a number. Yes, YEARS. I do think they will get the book thrown at them, and rightfully so.

[bold]Feds Seek 21 Months for Hot Pockets Heiress in College Scam[/bold]

Michelle Janavs, the Hot Pockets heiress, (you have to love her chyron) is looking at 21 months for her part in the college admissions scandal if the Federal prosecutors have their way. Sentencing is at the Moakley Courthouse in Boston today.

And Ms Janavs - belatedly - plead guilty before a trial began.

Meaning Lori and Massimo will get what, ten years?

[quote] Elizabeth Henriquez, 57, was sentenced to seven months behind bars Monday after agreeing to pay more than $500,000 to scam her two children into elite colleges [Georgetown was one of the colleges] — part of the sweeping “Varsity Blues” admissions scandal that rocked the country last year.... US District Judge Nathaniel Gorton rejected her request for home confinement but delayed the start of her sentencing date until June 30, according to Bloomberg News.

R271 Very little since the issues discussed in R269's USA Today link. The judge isn't happy with the US Attorney's office prosecuting the case; calling Loughlin's (and Massimo's I guess) attorneys' accusation that the Feds told Rick Singer to lie, "serious and disturbing." The judge asked the US Attorney's office for information about their investigative actions and the defense attorneys want to use that conduct (as yet unverified) as the basis of a motion to dismiss the charges. As yet we've heard nothing about US Attorney Andrew Lelling's response to the Judge Gorton's questions.

While we wait, here's US Attorney Lelling. He's a Trumper but 1: he's not batshit crazy like most of 'em, and 2: he's a Hot Daddy. Which on DL makes all the difference.

by Anonymousreply 279May 10, 2020 1:23 AM

I doubt it, R279. The same judge sentenced the Hot Pockets heiress to five months with the start of the sentence delayed. She wanted to serve it as house arrest. He said, "No."

"The COVID-19 pandemic is an unprecedented and continually evolving cause of concern and the Court is cognizant of the particular transmission risk in penitentiary facilities," Judge Gorton wrote in a ruling handed down Thursday. However, "this judge will not forfeit his obligation to impose a sentence that is warranted by a defendant's criminal conduct."

Gorton left the door open for another delay if the outbreak hasn't improved by this summer. “If the public health crisis has not abated by the time of the extended report date, the court will entertain further motions.”

Lori Loughlin and her husband, Mossimo Giannulli, have agreed to a plea deal in connection with their involvement in the college admissions scandal.

The "Full House" actress and the fashion designer will serve two months in prison, pay a $150,000 fine and have two years of supervised release with 100 hours of community service for conspiracy charges, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office in the District of Massachusetts.

Considering the coronavirus they probably won't serve any prison time R284. When I heard on TV they were doing to plead guilty my first thought was perfecting timing, considering the coronavirus and non violent prisoners being released and serving the rest of their sentences at home. Unless serving in prison is deferred they played this very well.

Andy Cohen Addresses Lori Loughlin 'Real Housewives of Beverly Hills' Casting Rumors

I wonder, R294, if that plea deal holds up. In the last week I've heard a couple of people on TV - both those demonstrating and those looting - mention one reason behind the unrest was the leniency shown to wealthy whites who tried to bribe their kids' way into college. They got a judicial slap on the wrist while a black person would get five years for something comparatively minor. And saw it as further evidence of systemic racism.

Lori and Massimo had a chance to do brief sentences if they'd pled guilty last fall. By now, it would be behind them and she could be looking at offers. Since then, they've probably spent a million bucks on lawyers and if the judge accepts the plea deals, they'll still get jail. Or he won't, and it'll cost them more and/or the sentences will be longer.

She may be, as Andy Cohen says, a lovely person, but she sure as hell ain't a smart or lucky one.
