Interpol the band - anyone else like them?

Paul Banks was quite hot in a junkie, dirty blond way when he was younger.

Love Interpol. Unlike The Strokes their subsequent cds got better and better.

I even love Paul's side projects like Banks and Steelz with Rza from the Wu Tang Clan and his solo works (Julian Plenti, Banks).

R2, Banks did a hilarious side album called Everyone On My Dick Like They Should Be or something.

What are your favourite Interpol songs?

The original and best Slow Hands.

[quote]What are your favourite Interpol songs?

Obstacle 1, Not Even Jail with it's killer outro, Rest My Chemistry, Ancient Ways, If You Really Love Nothing.

Not Even Jail, Leif Erikson, Pioneer to the Falls, PDA, Pace is the Trick are some of mine.

This is the best live version of Not Even Jail I've come across. It's such a powerful song, even better live.

When personality is scarred tissue

We travel South with disuse

I'm subtle like a lion's cage

Such a cautious display

Remember take hold of your time here

Give some meanings to the means

To your end

Not even jail

This always reminds me of my last relationship. Not much sex after ten years together but lots of expensive holidays in sunny places. I used to listen to this on the beach and cry sometimes.

How much of a drug problem did 'three kinds of yes' Banks have?

Joy Division 2.0.

This is the first Interpol song that made an impact on me. I heard it in a small tent at the Reading Festival in 2001, just before their first album was released.

They had more heart than Joy Diviision and more stamina.

Stella is also my favorite song!

Paul Banks' relationship with Helena went on for ten years. I expect he'll hook up with someone much younger now. Dakota Johnson would suit him.

I love their first three albums immensely—beautiful guitar instrumentation, and I actually like Paul Banks' plain, deep, vibrato-less vocals. I've heard some people complain about his voice in the past, but less-than-stellar vocals are never a dealbreaker for me. I prefer an interesting/unusual voice over flashy vocal acrobatics, always. I know it's a frequent and annoying comparison, but they very much owe their sound to Joy Division, as well as a number of other post-punk groups. "The New" is one of my favorites from their first record. I also love this song from their second self-titled one:

Evil, the video is creepy for my taste, so here is a live version

Yes loved the albums TOTBL, antics but then kind of lost interest after Our love to admire. They made great music. Kind of one of those bands that I never really knew what they were singing about but just liked the music.
