How Rich was Jessica Fletcher Supposed to Be?

I asked the very same question last year! She was, according to a bitter Eudora McVeigh, the newly anointed Queen of mystery fiction. She likely had millions, she had investments and property. She flew first class yet sometimes took the greyhound.

And as some smart bitches pointed out, she never chipped in for gas money and ran out on dinner before the check came!

She was a bestselling author in the '80s who seemed to churn out a couple of bestsellers every year. Meanwhile, for most of the series she lived in the same house she'd had forever (probably no mortgage) and she didn't drive so no car. No kids, either.

So yeah, I'm sure she had a lot of financial liquidity.

They seemed to be turning one of her novels into a movie at least once a season. The rest of the time she traveled the world collecting cheques for charities. The only two things that could get her out of Cabot Cove.

Plus a lot of her travels were supposedly on book tours or promoting a dramatisation of her work so they were likely paid for by the publishing company.

She also stayed with friends a lot so no hotel bills
