It's Cameron Diaz's 47th birthday

Let's wish her a good one

She's been retired awhile? Maybe we should leave her alone.

by Anonymousreply 1August 30, 2019 7:32 PM

I wish she was still making movies. She is a great comedic actress and had some solid dramatic roles. I thought she was fantastic in The Box, despite that movie being a bit of a mess.

I can never believe that she celebrated her 21st birthday while filming The Mask. She looked 35.

by Anonymousreply 4August 30, 2019 7:43 PM

OP sure picked the wrong photo to celebrate. Are you forgetting what she's famous for?

by Anonymousreply 5August 30, 2019 8:00 PM

I have no problem with her. She’s had some of the best dick in Hollywood and is cool, down to earth, and not an elitist cunt like Julia Roberts.

by Anonymousreply 6August 30, 2019 8:08 PM

Unpopular opinion: I liked her in Gangs of New York. She got a ton of flak about her accent, but I feel like most of the people hurling venom at her were too stupid to realize that she was supposed to be portraying someone in 19th-century New York, of immigrant roots; a modern-day stereotypical Brooklyn or Bronx accent would have been inappropriate.

Do we care?

by Anonymousreply 8August 30, 2019 8:16 PM

She seems to be retired now and is becoming more and more forgotten. It's a shame that her last feature film was that horrible remake of Annie - what a clunker to go out with!

by Anonymousreply 9August 30, 2019 8:19 PM

I thought she looked awful in The Mask and was a terrible actress to boot, but she definitely improved as she aged.

If she's 47 today then she wouldn't have turned 21 while filming The Mask. Maybe 23 but not 21.

by Anonymousreply 10August 30, 2019 8:21 PM

She looks fantastic for 47

by Anonymousreply 11August 30, 2019 8:22 PM

Some of the worst skin in Hollywood.

Daniel Day Lewis adored having her around on the "Gangs" set. He was quoted about liking her, personally, no comment on her acting that I recall.

by Anonymousreply 12August 30, 2019 8:26 PM

The older she gets, the more she reminds me of Michelle Pfeiffer—not quite as pretty, but similar enough that they could pass for sisters.

by Anonymousreply 13August 30, 2019 8:29 PM

Pfeiffer was much prettier and a better actress.

Happy Birthday Cameron!!

by Anonymousreply 15August 30, 2019 9:45 PM

I thought she was gorgeous in The Mask.

by Anonymousreply 16August 31, 2019 2:15 AM

I love her go-for-broke quality. Happy Birthday, Cameron!

by Anonymousreply 17August 31, 2019 2:22 AM

She was pretty in The Mask. As some have pointed out, she looked older than she was, but still gorgeous.

by Anonymousreply 18August 31, 2019 2:25 AM

Why'd she marry that mini Madden? They seem like such sawed off dbags. Their music sucked 20 years ago?

by Anonymousreply 19August 31, 2019 2:27 AM

She's a beautiful white Latina, but she's retired so please spare her from gossip and other negativity.

by Anonymousreply 20August 31, 2019 2:28 AM

I always forget she's Latina, which is incredibly dumb given her last name—but she just looks so Nordic to me. Her father is Cuban, right?

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 21August 31, 2019 2:32 AM

She's fully latina but speaks English with no accent. Her dad is a total dilf (I guess now gilf?). I'd love his 8 inch uncut cock stuffed down my mouth through the gloryhole I set up in my Miami hotel. He's a gorgeous guy who I bet wouldn't mind feeding hungry mouths.

by Anonymousreply 22August 31, 2019 2:35 AM

Her dad is dead R22, lol, but you can tell from photos that he was probably really good looking when he was young. He always seemed to be sporting long hair in later years which was not a good look on him. Cameron's mother is rather plain (dare I say ugly?) so I'm going out on a limb and assuming her looks must've come from her dad's side.

by Anonymousreply 23August 31, 2019 2:38 AM

I've loved her in everything, even the clunkers. She made Something About Mary and In Her Shoes. Gifted comedic actress. Maybe TV in the future?

by Anonymousreply 24August 31, 2019 2:41 AM

Agreed R24. I was surprised by how good her chemistry was with Toni Collette in In Her Shoes.

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 25August 31, 2019 2:46 AM

I like her.

by Anonymousreply 26August 31, 2019 2:47 AM

She made that whole Tom Cruise "Knight and Day" movie work.

She's very likeable. Never seemed self-obsessed or weird.

She's still relatively young at 47. JLo (who is 50) and Sandy Bullock (who is like 55) are still marketed as young ingenues, so there's no reason why Cameron Diaz couldn't have a comeback if she wanted.

by Anonymousreply 27August 31, 2019 2:51 AM

I still get a kick out of the fact that she went to high school with Snoop Dogg

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 28August 31, 2019 2:54 AM

I agree she seems very likeable and is very funny. I've seen her in a few terrible movies and she still manages to give a great performance.

by Anonymousreply 29August 31, 2019 2:55 AM

Anyone remember The Last Supper? I think it was her second movie. It was about several liberal grad students who invite a bunch of hard-right conservatives to a dinner so they can murder them. Jason Alexander, Bill Paxton, and Annabeth Gish were also in it. It was kind of silly, but entertaining, and I liked her in it.

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 30August 31, 2019 2:58 AM

I love Cameron Diaz.

She's literally only 2 years older than Amy Adams who is still playing 29 year old women in prestige HBO series.

I think she could be the female Keanu with several "action film" franchises. People like her and identify with her. She's a white Latina who could get butts in seats (movie term) due to her fun/goofy nature and sexy latina/nordic looks.

by Anonymousreply 31August 31, 2019 3:05 AM

Is In Her Shoes any good?

I'm stuck in my house all weekend on hurricane watch.

by Anonymousreply 32August 31, 2019 3:05 AM

It's a pretty good comedy-drama, R32. Light fare, but with good performances and some funny moments.

by Anonymousreply 33August 31, 2019 3:10 AM

Thanks, R33.

by Anonymousreply 34August 31, 2019 3:13 AM

She's really good in Things You Can Tell Just By Looking At Her. She plays a blind woman.

by Anonymousreply 35August 31, 2019 3:25 AM

It’s weird to me that no one has yet mentioned her memorable performance in Being John Malkovich.

She went through a mega bitch phase that made Julia Roberts seem sweet and approachable in comparison. This was during the days when she was dating Timberlake. She was so defensive and nasty 24/7. I wonder if that behavior burned some bridges.

by Anonymousreply 36August 31, 2019 3:33 AM

It was probably forgotten because she literally [italic]disappeared[/italic] into that role R36. I've seen that film several times and forget she is in it. She gave a great performance, and IIRC, it was the first time she was taken seriously by the critics.

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 37August 31, 2019 3:44 AM

She actually looks good for 74

by Anonymousreply 38August 31, 2019 3:59 AM

She should have made “Fun With Dick And Jane” with Jim Carrey instead of the dreary Tea Leone

by Anonymousreply 39August 31, 2019 4:13 AM

Timberlake is an insufferable little bitch so I'm not surprised he brought out the worst in Cameron.

She's definitely calmed down when being married to a mini-Madden bro.

She's definitely ripe for a comeback. She can act, sing, and dance, although she always defaults to the "goofy sexy nordic latina" trope.

I think she should do a Broadway show for 4 months, win a Tony, and then get back into film.

by Anonymousreply 40August 31, 2019 4:37 AM

Honestly, she's a beautiful Latina woman and should be respected as such. The fact that she does not present herself as a Shakira or JLo clone (releasing shitty pop singles, shaking her ass, etc.) should be enough to endear herself to the American public and get butts in seat when she releases her next franchise.

by Anonymousreply 41August 31, 2019 5:06 AM

I may be the only "latina" on this thread--I find that particular shibboleth so annoying.

We know what she is--she's a Cuban-American. It is a particular culture among the panoply of latin-american cultures.

by Anonymousreply 42August 31, 2019 5:24 AM

Cameron is technically Latina because of her father's Cuban-Spanish heritage, although she definitely does not symbolize the stereotypical Latina "look" (at least in American culture) as she's blonde and blue-eyed. I don't believe she's ever played a Latina character, has she?

by Anonymousreply 43August 31, 2019 5:38 AM

Did she date Jim Carey? He has herpes.

I think she has herpes. The husband used to go out with Paris Hilton...

by Anonymousreply 44August 31, 2019 5:51 AM

Yeah, yeah, she's great, but is she Latina? I can't quite tell from this thread.

by Anonymousreply 45August 31, 2019 6:15 AM

[Quote] Timberlake is an insufferable little bitch so I'm not surprised he brought out the worst in Cameron.

I'm sure it was the same with Britney and Jessica.

by Anonymousreply 46August 31, 2019 8:02 AM

She was GREAT in Being John Malkovich and of course, TSAMary.

She seems like a cool chick IRL, too.

Even if she’s acting in a movie beyond her comfort zone, I can’t help but root for her.

by Anonymousreply 47August 31, 2019 8:04 AM

I think a lot of the problem with Diaz was the bad PR advice she got during the late 90s into the mid 2000s, where she was marketed as a "one of the boys" kind of girl who belched on TV and basically played into the porn-star-eating-cheeseburgers image that was popular back then. It became dated quickly, and while some dopey bros might like to see a 25-year-old lady belching for the lulz, they don't want to see a 40-year-old woman doing it.

She's also been dogged with rumors of being rude to fans for 20 years or longer, and that takes a toll, especially when your whole image is "fun approachable party girl." She was still doing it in 2014 when she lectured an entire audience at a premiere for that terrible movie SEX TAPE.

And remember when she told Andy Cohen she slept with women and when someone wondered if it was Drew Barrymore, she said the thought made her vomit and "I wouldn't even menage with her"?

She's just rude. I know everyone here loves her, but that's because absence makes the heart grow fonder. No one here liked her back in 2014, and for reasons.

I liked her in Bad Teacher

by Anonymousreply 49August 31, 2019 12:19 PM

R40 this is no such trope: "goofy sexy nordic latina" trope

by Anonymousreply 50August 31, 2019 12:39 PM

It's called sui generis

by Anonymousreply 51August 31, 2019 1:19 PM

Fun movie

by Anonymousreply 52August 31, 2019 1:48 PM

Bad Teacher is a guilty pleasure of mine. She's actually been great in a lot of roles, comedy and drama.

by Anonymousreply 53August 31, 2019 2:12 PM

She was always betwixt and between in terms of casting: she couldn't play sexy dippy blondes as well as Heather Graham, and she couldn't play smart alpha bitches as well as Reese Witherspoon, and she couldn't play viking kick-ass goddesses like Charlize Theron could AT ALL. She couldn't even play scrappy everywomen the way Renee Zellweger could at her peak.

My point is, she never quite found her niche like the other actresses did, which is why she never did as well as them career-wise. Her best casting ever was in Something About Mary, but how often do roles like that come along?

by Anonymousreply 54August 31, 2019 2:48 PM

Overall it was a shit movie but she was hilarious in Bad Teacher. The only reason I watched it in facet

by Anonymousreply 55August 31, 2019 6:55 PM

She was delightful in the first Charlie’s Angels.

by Anonymousreply 56August 31, 2019 9:03 PM

Sofia Coppola doesn't think too highly of her.

by Anonymousreply 59September 1, 2019 11:58 PM

What are you talking about R59? She was just in Sofia's remake of The Beguiled a couple years ago, and Sofia was at her Hollywood Star ceremony. There are pictures of them having lunch together afterward. They are close friends by all accounts.

by Anonymousreply 60September 2, 2019 1:27 AM

^ YIKES, scratch that—I thought I was commenting in the Kirsten Dunst thread. Now I want more info. Why does Sofia not like Cameron?

by Anonymousreply 61September 2, 2019 1:28 AM

I imagine her in a terror about reaching 50, perhaps taking cover in one of her massive acne craters....

by Anonymousreply 62September 2, 2019 1:48 AM

Do you think Bill Murray was cunty because he wanted to be an Angel?

by Anonymousreply 63September 2, 2019 1:59 AM

Cameron reportedly fucked or tried to fuck Sophia's then-husband, Spike Jonze. Sophia made fun of Cameron with the airheaded Anna Farris character in Lost in Translation.

by Anonymousreply 64September 2, 2019 2:32 AM

I thought she'd make a great Amazing Amy in Gone Girl. She was who I pictured the entire time. She really was that "cool girl" who'd dress up and look cute but drink beer, eat hot wings, and burp.

by Anonymousreply 65September 2, 2019 2:56 AM

Sofia is an aloof elitist twat, and probably still operates like a high schooler who views pretty, vivacious women like Cameron as the threatening "pretty, popular girl." Look, I loved The Virgin Suicides and Lost in Translation, but at the end of the day, Sofia has always come off as cold and devoid of personality or a sense of humor, much like fellow cunt Carrie Brownstein.

by Anonymousreply 66September 2, 2019 3:02 AM

R63 lol I wouldn't rule it out.

by Anonymousreply 67September 2, 2019 8:22 AM

Inspired by this thread, I re-watched [italic]Bad Teacher[/italic] last night. I'd forgotten how funny it is. It's not a great movie by any means, but it's entertaining as hell. CD does a great job, as does Jason Segel. They're both charming and have good on-screen chemistry. BT is really quite a subversive movie in some ways because CD's character's really terrible behavior is not only never punished, it's rewarded.

by Anonymousreply 68September 2, 2019 8:24 AM

She is a pretty great human and I like her movies. Too bad she retired

by Anonymousreply 69September 2, 2019 10:02 AM

she is 57 if she is a day.....

still pock marked up close, and hard.

by Anonymousreply 70September 2, 2019 10:07 AM

Cameron gets her blonde hair from her mother, who is of German and English heritage. Father was Cuban-American, with ancestors from Spain.

I would love to be retired at 47. Apart from the horrific visuals, the Madden brothers appear to make good spouses, as they each have been with their partners for a long time.

by Anonymousreply 71September 2, 2019 11:21 AM

She always starred in terrible movies, which made her seem like a better actor than she really is.

by Anonymousreply 72September 2, 2019 11:37 AM

[quote]Did she date Jim Carey? He has herpes. I think she has herpes. The husband used to go out with Paris Hilton...

The herpes most likely made her infertile.

by Anonymousreply 73September 2, 2019 11:38 AM

R37 she won the NY film critics award for best actress and got a golden globe nod for There’s Something About Mary. So in 1998, one year before Malkovich, she was taken seriously.

That being said, she never really bothered to hone her craft as she got older. She was never going to be the next Streep. And she’s probably to vain to start doing character roles or TV series. So if you can afford to do it, by all means retire. She was ok but I really don’t miss her.

by Anonymousreply 74September 2, 2019 1:09 PM

[Quote] Apart from the horrific visuals, the Madden brothers appear to make good spouses, as they each have been with their partners for a long time.

At the time I thought Joel and Nicole were a really random couple. But they're still together so they must be doing something right.

by Anonymousreply 75September 2, 2019 1:15 PM

It's curious she hasn't mentioned her Me Too moments but then again Cameron was always clear eyed on the topic.

by Anonymousreply 76September 2, 2019 1:34 PM

This is what she currently looks like. Her face is full of botox and fillers but she doesn't appear to have made any surgical changes to her face (paging the Park Avenue Plastic Surgeon). Or maybe Tom Cruise gave her the name of his plastic surgeon.

She hasn't straightened her teeth which keeps her looking human. Overall, she looks great. She still looks like the Cameron Diaz that we all remember from her movies.

by Anonymousreply 77September 2, 2019 2:43 PM

Tom's surgery is BAD

by Anonymousreply 78September 2, 2019 2:48 PM

R77 - yes, she still looks very sexy aside from her ears, which have SOOOO many fucking piercings. Ugh, too much.

I told you all that she is ripe for a comeback. She probably is "in the know" and knows that 30 piercings per year is going to be in style soon.

by Anonymousreply 79September 6, 2019 2:18 AM

The 15 earrings say to the world “I may be old but I’m not a square!” In other words, she’s insecure about aging, just like the rest of us.

by Anonymousreply 80September 6, 2019 2:23 AM

If only she was Latina.

Seriously though, I like her. Happy Birthday Cameron!

I like the movie in which she fucked Keanu in a public restroom.

by Anonymousreply 81September 6, 2019 9:31 AM

I.like the movie where she screams “I swallowed your cum!” at Tom Cruise

by Anonymousreply 82September 6, 2019 11:08 AM

She really took the sexy/goofy Nordic Latina trope and RAN with it all the way to the bank!

She's probably rich as hell!

by Anonymousreply 83September 6, 2019 3:00 PM

She’s irrelevant.

by Anonymousreply 84September 8, 2019 12:30 AM

Let's reflect on what wonderful energy Cameron brought to the original Charlie's Angels. As the token "blonde," K-Stew could NEVER.

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 85November 20, 2019 9:42 PM

Cameron is the ARCHETYPE of the ditzy/funny/sexy Nordic Latina trope! I adore her. KStew is good but no one can beat the Lucy/Drew/Cameron holy trinity of Charlie's Angels films.

In fact, a reboot of Charlie's Angels WITH Lucy/Drew/Cameron would probably make a ton of dough. They could even have a scene slightly mocking the failed 2019 reboot.

by Anonymousreply 86December 7, 2019 12:09 AM

I celebrate her as a master popcorn popper!

by Anonymousreply 87December 7, 2019 12:11 AM

Enjoy your youth while you have it

by Anonymousreply 88December 7, 2019 12:13 AM

Those Charlie's Angels were good popcorn movies, especially the first one, they would not have worked without Cameron.

Here's a great scene with Cameron for the otherwise muddled Vanilla Sky: "I swallowed your cum!"

her face so scarred from acne. she found a man to marry her?

yea, she pushin 60 fo sho

by Anonymousreply 93December 7, 2019 4:56 PM

She really push the whole "Goofy Nordic Latina" trope to a whole new level and profited handsomely from that. And she decided that a Madden brother from a lame 90s pop-punk band was the BEST she could do?

by Anonymousreply 94January 4, 2020 12:07 AM

She probably has herpes. Her husband dated Paris Hilton before her.

by Anonymousreply 95January 4, 2020 12:22 AM
