Gay slutty social media star Matthew Camp
Matthew, who looks like Austin Wolf (except without the horrible tacky tattoos, and of reasonable height), has a series called "Camp Chaos" for men.com, where he re-enacts crucial sexual episodes of his past while artistic images are projected on top both himself and his chosen re-enactor fucking.
First, though, we get to see him choosing among various slutty men on social media, so he can find just who is fully worthy of having sex with him and re-enacting his epochal sexual history.
What sayeth Datalounge"?

OK R15 you can buy a 'fragrance' on his website for $90.

Yes. Ecstatic. No more fake news. You can certainly think he’s a ridiculous whore with delusions of grandeur. And that anybody who buys his shit is a desperate lonely basement dweller; but 90 for cologne & 50 for a “designer” t shirt are also not out of line in the “luxury goods” segment of the market. So mock his pretensions, but his prices are the most realistic thing about him.

What then makes his products "luxury goods"? Are they made with rare materials, or are they especially finely made? Does he have special expertise in crafting perfumes or in stitching t-shirts?

I'm long married now, but the video at r14 reminds me how much I hated hooking up with someone who wouldn't turn the TV off during sex. I'm easily distracted and hearing commercials for car dealers or laundry detergents or dialog from Gray's Anatomy in the background while trying to fuck someone would completely take me out of the moment. If you're making a video like this Matthew guy shouldn't you at least put the TV on mute.

R23 - not sure if you’re being intentionally obtuse, bit what the hell makes any product a “luxury good” - mostly marketing and the pretensions of the buyer. Yes many of them are better made than a similar mass market item - but not to such a degree that the much higher price is justified. It’s a game, but one that lots of people willingly play - if Mr Camp can reap some outsized reward by selling his image more than anything else how does that make him any different than a Ralph Lauren? It’s all BS - but if he ropes in some suckers - well that’s always been the American Way.

That "Camp Chaos" looks like the dumbest shit imaginable. It's like they asked a high school art student to "make something unusual." I don't think it's even shallow.
I read an interview with this guy in a magazine and it was mortifying. Magazines and the New York Times keep featuring him probably because they want to meet him, then he talks and words fail him. He comes across moronic! I can't believe he has a podcast.
For a while it seemed like this guy was aligning himself with interesting artists and filmmakers and doing really interesting work, like he was going to break the mold. But that all fell away and now he's doing bad homemade porn with fading looks?

when did he move on from good old boring gay to shiny new bright pansexual? As far as I can tell, he doesn't have sex or date women so that leaves trans. But I thought the new rules were trans men/women are real men/women so a gay man having sex with a trans man is tots gay even though it is technically penis in vagina - in fact this taken to such an extreme that to even suggest that you would not have sex or date a trans man is an act of hate and ignorance. Preference for a penis over a vagina is now verboten so long as the vagina bearing person says that they are a man and not a woman (preferring sex with a women bearing a vagina is still allowed for now but don't be surprised when that also becomes discrimination). But if biology and secondary sex characteristics are no longer indications of sex/gender then on what basis do you identify what makes a person a man or woman? The answer seems to be masculinity and femininity but that seems to undermine decades of social progress of womens rights. Are now telling effeminate boys that we you are in fact a girl or maybe nonbinary but you aren't really a man?
This brave new world is quite confusing...
PS - From what I can gather from the twitter zietgeist, pansexual is acquiring new definition where otherwise straight men will occasionally have sex with a trans woman but under no circumstances have sex with another man. Of course, this is all coming from porn performers and their twitter stans so how much of this is a performance rather than in real life is unknown.

Tanner Cohan, who made a splash in 2008 starring in Were the world mine (cutesy but underfunded gay take on Midsummers Nights Dream), was so taken with Mssr Camp that he made an entire movie about him (Getting Go the Go Doc project) that wasn't very good at all - another attempt at strandling the line between porn and art that didn't work very well. I think they may have dated or Cohan was pining for him and Matt indulged him hoping to ride that to more work in hollywood. Didn't work out well for either of them...
Now Camp is trying to reinvent himself as the new smart/arty porn star to fill that Colby Keller void (Sean Ford is trying to do the same as the twink version) but he doesn't seem to have the ambition or work ethic to monetize his social media following. He was one of the first to start an onlyfans account but he never really published anything much and didn't promote it like you have to to make serious money. His seems to think he can make money off selling merchandise like his not very original parfum in a poppers bottle or the new clothing that he is selling via some off joint venture with the cartoonishly cock destroyer woman certain people (Men.com/Mindgeek) are trying to market as some sort of gay icon that no one is buying. There seems to have been plans by men.com to produce a line of bisexual porn with her and some otherwise gay (or gay for pay) models but I think they realized they weren't making any money off the WhyNotBi brand so dropped it. Although Camp did hint at appearing in on of her movies but who knows if that was just chum in the water to generate twitter drama...

r100 what part do you disagree with- Tanner Cohan cheesy pseudodoc that he made about Camp that was a total dud? His lame attempt at artporn - how else would describe the Men.com scenes above? He was cited in that NYT article a few months back about being an early adopter of Onlyfans - was he lying? He is constantly shilling for his new merch line of slutty underwear on twitter and he made a few cheasy videos with that Cockdestroyer woman with the fake tatas announcing that it was a joint venture between them - you need cites to the tweets? Finally, he made several veiled references to making a porn with the cock destroyer woman (or women - I think it is a collective but honestly I care so little for straight porn that I haven't bothered to research it) and there was a big twitter brewhaha when someone asks if he was bisexual and he refused to answer...Since when is the truth trolling?

I don't get the allure of "artsy" porn. Surely there can't be any money in it, right? R113 - I have to assume it's brand-building; a differentiator. The artsy project may not earn a huge amount on its own, but it helps set them apart from the thousands of others selling their wares online. According to that NY Times profile, he was earning $10,000/month from his OnlyFans. I would not be surprised if it's up to $15 or $20k/month at this point.

There isn't much, if any, profit in most art - except for the very high end painting or sculpture baubles that the ultra-rich buy and sell to make themselves feel more sophisticated. If one is being generous, artporn could be considered just another form of the art film, except that it isn't usually shown in public theatres (even arthouse cinemas) and usually isn't submitted to film festivals. I think the arthouse crowd thinks of it as just a middlebrow form of porn, especially if it is produced by the porn industry itself rather than a one-off project by the likes of Bruce LaBruce. He actually made a few films jointly with Cazza in Europe in the late 90s/early 2000s where the film had two cuts - one for the film festival circuit with most of the x-rated bits edited out and the full penetration porn cut that Cazza distributed. Even then, I think only a few gay film festivals accepted them so no awards were won, which seems to be the sole criterion of success as they are almost never distributed commercially.
I think this is more of a case of Men (or Mindgeek) hoping to create a new genre and maybe find a way a new profit model for porn production. I am not sure how much longer they current system can limp on - they have cut production costs as far they (model salaries are significantly lower than they were in the 80s and 90s) and they have only temporarily plugged the piracy hole by Mindgeeks consolidation of the tube sites and production companies (but ad revenue from those can't make up for the net subscription losses). Non-professionally produced porn, either for free on tube sites or profit via onlyfans, is the one growth segment but it just further erodes the revenue of the legacy production companies.
by Anonymous | reply 117 | February 16, 2020 10:07 PM

r115 Not only that but Camp was straight bullshitting his supposed success - he never monetized his videos like others have (he isn't systematic about weekly production numbers or collaborating with other people for variety). I kind of respect him for that because it his low production volume does seem genuine than the same models collaborating over and over again putting out the same stuff.

The weirdest thing to me about Matthew Camp is his Tom of Finland obsession. Not only did he create a multi-part series for men.com on Tom of Finland--starring himself--, but in his latest video written for men.com, he has another character refer to him as "a Tom of Finland drawing come to life."
There are a few guys in porn I might nominate as potential Tom of Finland drawings brought to life, but Matthew Camp is not among them nor even near them.
