She says Henry Morgan said her sister Audrey was like a character actor, but Jayne can't remember his name.
Any idea

No.

Weird. Didn't think anyone here knew who Henry Morgan is -- among other things, he was my godfather.

Pert Kelton and Jackie Gleason made a more believable couple.

R3, I remember when Henry was in the middle of a divorce and broadcasting over WOR, to prevent his wife from serving papers at the studio, the station agreed to remotes each week from secret locations.

What did Jayne by "He had two girls after Audrey?" I saw Pert Kelton and Audrey.

Wiki says that Pert was invited back to play the mother of her former character in the Color Honeymooners. Sheila MacRae was apparently the wife in that.

Jayne Meadows and Audrey Meadows were not speaking when Audrey died so a magazine phoned her up to break the news to her and see what her reaction was.

Pert Kelton was the original Alice Kramden but not for very long because she was blacklisted by the Communist witch hunters back in the 1950's. Audrey Meadows was hired to take her place as Alice and she did a fantastic job, I think much better than Pert who was not very aggressive. Audrey's Alice could really put Ralph in his place which he needed from time to time.

Alice Kramden
first Pert Kelton in 1955, then Audrey Meadows and later Sue Ane Langdon before MacRae took over the role opposite Gleason.

Why did no one cast the Landers sisters as the Meadow Sisters in an 80s TV movie?
by Anonymous | reply 16 | August 29, 2019 8:55 PM |
Maybe because their name was MEADOWS, not Meadow.

The Staple Singers were called Staples. That's showbiz.

Based on her description of nasal voice and deadpan, I’d say she means Ned Sparks...

Jayne Meadows didn’t have half the talent of Audrey, who was a natural.
by Anonymous | reply 20 | August 29, 2019 9:19 PM |
She said Pert Kelton, no other name.

Edgar Buchanan perfected the slow burn take.

And? What was her reaction?

She laughed hysterically, Rose.

Jayne Meadows was definitely talking about Ned Sparks. He was so famous he appeared in several animated cartoons.

Love Audrey, Jayne on the other hand...

r25 Ned Sparks was also the inspiration for Stanley the Lion in Terrytoon’s Sidney the Elephant series.
Pro Tip: Sidney is inspired by Ed Wynn, Carol the Giraffe by DL icon Carol Channing.

Sheila McRae played the part of Alice Kramden in musicals versions of The Honeymooners on The Jackie Gleason show for a number of seasons in the 1960's. During the 1970's Jackie Gleason did a number of TV specials about The Honeymooners, and brought back Audrey Meadows as Alice - and Sheila McRae was furious. She told a reporter that she would never have anything to do with Gleason or the show again.
But Audrey Meadows was the best Alice of all of them and I don't blame Gleason for bringing her out of retirement for the TV specials.

Yes, Ned Sparks! I always get him mixed up with George E. Stone. Thanks R19!

[Quote] Audrey Meadows was a staunch Republican, who was quoted as saying, "I've always voted Republican because America is exactly that, a republic."
