No, I can’t. I don’t do drugs, smoke or drink. But, I can’t resist junk food. It’s my crack
I can scarf down whole box of hostess cupcakes, twinkies, etc with very little effort

I do. I stress eat. Not a helpful way to deal with it, but it is a loop I am stuck in.

In my twisted mind, if I buy day old brownies or cake, they have fewer calories because they cost less.
by Anonymous | reply 10 | August 27, 2019 12:29 AM |
I generally eat healthy snacks: fruit, nuts, good cheese. I don't typically keep anything unhealthy on hand, but once in a while I get a craving for something awful like a Little Debbie zebra cake and will splurge. And it'll be about five years before the craving hits me again.
by Anonymous | reply 11 | August 27, 2019 12:34 AM |
I'm a Cheetos addict too. Now I only buy the single serving 2 for a dollar 1 oz. bags. If I buy the big bag I won't be able to stop until the bag is empty. It's the only junk food that does that to me. I can open any other kind of salty or sweet snack and stop at one portion. I think they put something addictive in those Cheetos. I even love those orange fingers I get. I try to think of Trump when I eat them hoping that will kill my addiction but no such luck.
by Anonymous | reply 12 | August 27, 2019 12:44 AM |
I like numerous Haagen-Dazs flavors, Ben & Jerry's Vanilla Caramel Fudge, and Kettle Brand Chile Verde potato chips. I will occasionally buy 1 oz. bags of Fritos or Cheetos. But that's it. And I don't keep them around. I buy what I'm going to eat that day, or maybe finish the next day, and that's it. No más.

I just got back from Walgreen's and I brought home Donnettes, Pringles Ranch, Doritos, and Simply Lemonade. I'm dealing with alcoholism and these "bad" snacks help take the edge off.

I miss the glory days of going out to the bars and clubs on weekend nights, walking home with a nice buzz, and stopping at the nearest snack place to get a few chocolate or cream-filled goodies. Hell, even those triangle-cut packaged sandwiches, rotisserie hotdogs or generic pizza slices I used to buy from them. Now that I'm older with GI issues and no gallbladder, those are all distant--but late-night-club-hopping fondly reminiscent--memories. Burp.

I could eat any of the above. I also love anything caramel-Riesen’s, Werther’s soft candies, Twizzlers, and gummy candies.
I’m an equal opportunity junk food junkie.

I eat small amounts of dark chocolate, I like premium whole wheat pretzels (I pick off the salt) and whole grain chip combinations. Sometime I buy really good fresh cookies. Otherwise I eat lots of vegetables, salads, chicken, salmon, unsweetened whole grain cereals, cheese and all whole milk dairy and eggs. Whole food. I love really good French fries when out, good Italian and French cuisine. I also very rarely over eat without trying- I guess it comes naturally. Oh, and I love ice cream- real ice cream which mean premium brands or home made.
by Anonymous | reply 25 | August 27, 2019 1:51 AM |
I can be really bad with things like chips and cookies. I love plain salted potato chips more than just about any other food—the Kettle brand ones with sea salt are my weakness. I can eat half a bag without even thinking about it. It's terrible.
by Anonymous | reply 26 | August 27, 2019 1:56 AM |
I’ve learned to just have a few chips. Took a long time but finally have self control.

I stopped eating sugar in February of this year. I was pre diabetic.
I bought an ice cream maker and now make sugar free ice cream on the weekends with Stevia and ultra dark chocolate chips. It's really good. Other than that though, I try not to keep anything in the house other than popcorn. I told myself I could eat sugar on my birthday and so I had a slice of white cake with butter cream frosting which was always my favorite. I almost vomited at how sweet it was.
by Anonymous | reply 31 | August 27, 2019 2:56 AM |
I should add, since stopping the sugar, I dropped my glucose level by 27 points and am no longer pre diabetic.
Didn't lose any weight, though. I don't even drink alcohol.

I'm an admitted cracker pig, and have even signed multiple posts with the moniker. Though I do love crisps, chips as you Americans refer to them I do not buy them or keep them in my home. I figure the crackers already derail my keto approach. I can go a week or two without bread, but I need crackers. I like to think of myself as a cracker "connoisseur". I strive to keep my carbs to 20g on a good day, but no more than 60g on a go to hell day. Mind you, I never count healthy veg or beans in my carb calculations... just the empty wheat or potato based starches. We all have to enjoy living, better to limit ourselves than give them up entirely. Sometimes chicken salad or hummus is not as good with crudités, or lettuce wraps.. If I'm out having a few pints, I love to buy the small bags of Cheetos, Doritos, or other crisps. Krunchers Mesquite BBQ potato chips are my fave. I couldn't possibly trust myself with a large bag.

Speaking of diabetes, I'm a T1 diabetic so I pretty much eat whatever the fuck I want, and inject the appropriate insulin doses for the sugar/carb content. Sometimes sugary food will send me on a rollercoaster though that's often not worth the food itself. I do have a serious love of cheese crackers (Cheez-Itz, Cheese Nips, doesn't matter), but they unfortunately fuck up my blood glucose so badly that I've had to stop eating them.

I impulsively bought these at Duane Reade this afternoon. I ate five of these mini pies tonight.
I’m going to feel like shit tomorrow morning, but they taste so good.

Looks really good R37. It might have been worth it. I was in Rite Aid and the line was right by the Entenmann's display and if I didn't want to end up back at the end of the line I saw at least 4 things I would have bought. I hate the ingredients they use but man, their stuff is damn good. Still the best tasting chocolate covered donuts in the world. I love their chocolate cake with marshmallow icing too. I'm afraid to buy either as I will eat the whole box after the first taste.
Is anyone here old enough and from Brooklyn, NY to remember Ebinger bakery? It was really big in the 1960s and early 70s. Maybe many years before that too. They used the best real ingredients, not a chemical in the bunch and everything they made, right down to their English muffins was the best ever. Entenmann's was thought to be their replacement but as much as I like it, can't hold a candle. Maybe it was a lot better when they first started and they used real ingredients, oh well.

I melt Aldi dark chocolate and then pour it into a container of Halo Ice Cream, any flavor. So I combine low cost with low calorie and It makes me feel better about jacking it up to 500 calories for the whole thing. Not rational I’m sure.

I maintain a fairly healthy diet, but if I get stoned (usually one night a week) all bets are off. I’m at a point now that I’ll go to 7-11 ahead of smoking to buy all my stoned snacks. I like to alternate salty/sweet so I’ll buy a medium sized bag of cheez-it’s (the new snap’d double cheddar are my new favorite), a sleeve of cookies or hostess snack cakes (the blueberry glazed donuts are amazing when stoned). Sometimes I’ll buy a backup as well if I’m super stoned. Then the next morning I’ll get up and run a 5k or do a HIIT workout!
by Anonymous | reply 45 | August 28, 2019 1:47 AM |

R38, I’m from Brooklyn and there was an Ebinger bakery a few blocks from my home on Church Avenue. They had the best chocolate blackout cake, but my all-time favorite was their Charlotte Russe.

I've been munching while I read for years. Doritos, chili cheese fritos, chips - words and munchies go together for me. I love granny Smith apples sliced in half with peanut butter spread on them. Entenmann's cheese danish!

What's wrong with roasted nuts?
by Anonymous | reply 49 | August 28, 2019 2:00 AM |
Thanks for answering R47. Wow, that's the same Ebinger bakery my family went to. It was a great one. People from other neighborhoods would come to that one and nearby, I think maybe Bedford Ave. they had a discount one with day or two day old things and they tasted as good as fresh. My mom would really fill up a shopping cart with things. I think though for the weekend she'd get the fresh. I actually used to take something delicious for my school lunch. She never found out I'd throw or give away my sandwich and chips so I could get right to the Ebinger's dessert.
The chocolate blackout cake and Charlotte Russe were two of my favorites too. Some bakeries today claim their blackout cake is like Ebingers but nahh. I guess they figure most of their customers will not remember how good it really was.

A couple of weeks ago, I made brownies from a box mix. It was supposed to be for a friend's birthday, but I kept them for myself. I did offer her one.
Tonight, I made chocolate chip cookies from scratch. You have a better appreciation for the crap you're consuming when you actually mix a cup of sugar, 1.5 cups of flour, a stick of butter and a cup of chocolate chips. They are so good. It made 17. They'll be gone in a week.
I'll buy one or two junky items per shopping trip (crackers, chips, Kroger's version of Otter Pop Popsicle is very good), but I try to mostly get ingredients for cooking so there's not a lot of junk around unless I go to the trouble to make it.
by Anonymous | reply 55 | August 28, 2019 6:02 AM |
The Snickers hazelnut bars. Complete crap but I have a couple a week.
I also eat novelty ice cream stuff like an Its It. Again nothing special or premium but I love ice cream and cookie sandwiches. .
I'm also diabetic but my blood sugar is under control. I space out the treats and will skip a meal to have a snack instead. That's obviously not a particularly healthy diet, but if I'm going to cheat I know I have to make sure I don't wind up with a high blood sugar reading the next morning.
That's about the best I can do.

Sweets, ice cream, cakes, biscuits don't do it for me. I'm a crispaholic. Salt and lots of crunch. Two or three times a month, I'll buy Pringles and/or a family-size bag of extra crispy crunchy with ridges and that's all I eat that day. Major orgasm died and gone to Heaven is a giganto bag of salt and vinegar extra crunchy washed down with Piper-Heidsieck Cuvée Brut.

I believe that the Ebinger plant was near Bedford Avenue R50, and they offered discounted specials. The B35 bus would bring folks straight down Church Avenue to my bakery. We also had an N.E. There used to be a lot of wonderful stores in the neighborhood R91. These bakeries, a wonderful Chinese restaurant and an equally wonderful Jewish delicatessen. Scarola’s for Italian food. All gone. Korner Pizza which opened 53 years ago is still around.
by Anonymous | reply 92 | August 30, 2019 12:06 AM |
I remember Scarola’s and the good Chinese restaurant. They made great sweet and sour pork or chicken, the real way with pineapple, and peppers and the sauce was on the food and delicious. Now the places near me send the equivalent of chicken or pork nuggets with some orange glop on the side. LOL! I order from Korner all the time. It's not that the food is that good but there's really no place else to order from. There's San Remo on Cortelyou Rd but they're not very good either. The only actual restaurant is George's and their burgers aren't too bad but nothing else is really to my liking and I'm prone to gout so I don't want to eat red meat too often. George's was always there but it used to be pretty good. I loved the Jewish Deli and it didn't cost a week's pay to eat there. The deli's are all gone. There were so many.
Remember all the movie theaters we used to have, the Kenmore on Church and the Beverly theater down near McDonald Ave. and all the ones on Flatbush Ave and the fancier restaurant the Rivoli on Flatbush Ave? God, I think you needed reservations to eat there. I haven't thought about those places in years. My family took me there for my JHS (Ditmas JHS 62) graduation. I think that was the only time I ever ate at the Rivoli.

I'm a type 2 diabetic. I cut back drastically on the snacks at the grocery store and reserve the extra carbs for when I occasionally go out to eat with friends. I told my doctor I could not remove chocolate from my diet. I drink a mocha from Starbucks every day. I've lost 40 pounds in two years, and I've kept it off without a "named diet". I don't miss the fast food and snacks anymore.
