Because that's why his base loves him. He's as dumb as they are. They resent smart people, whom they have been taught by the GOP/Christian Right propaganda view as snooty "elites".

Then he has layers of various mental illnesses. Narcissism, plus who knows what? He likely has some drug addiction. That sniffing is not natural. He may have dementia and syphilis, but it’s hard to tell, gives the other problems. That quack he used to go to certainly wasn’t going to ask him to take a syphilis test.

He practically campaigns on his dumbness. He may describe himself as smart and a "stable genius," but the things which actually reveal his idiocy are things he takes pride in. His supporters love it.
