Does anyone in the industry know how stunt people and insurance works? I would think that what they do would make them uninsurable, both for medical and death benefits? How does OSHA even deal with that kind of work place? Do they have any say in shutting something down if they deem it unsafe?

I'd be interested to know more about stunt work in general. How does one train to be a stunt man? How does one learn to do perilous stunts safely, if there is such a thing?

Yes, stunt people need insurance. But as they're not famous or an unexpendable part of the show, so they're much cheaper than featured actors to insure.

Between OSHA and the unions, stunt people require training, licensing, a safety inspector and medic at all times during shooting.

I'm sure OSHA has enough rules to bust any movie set, but only if the stunt people or actors complain.

Ask a stuntman or the Screen Actor's Guild, r11.

Backgrounds in martial arts are highly prized. I would imagine backgrounds in acrobatics, gymnastics and even dance would help.
