Did Johnny Carson really have a thing for Joyce Dewitt?
I've read on here a couple of times that he had a thing for her? And I have so many questions as I was just a little kid in the late '70s and really missed the height of Joyce's fame.
Did he ban Ray Buktenica from appearing on his show when they were the hottest couple in Hollywood in the late '70s ala Brangelina? Did he flirt with her the way David Letterman used to flirt with Isabella Rossellini (amongst others) back in the day? Did she throw her weight around in Hollywood, knowing that she had one of the most powerful men in the business eating out of the palm of her hand (and wanting to eat out of the 'palm of her lap', if you know what I mean)?

Oh...that makes more sense, because while Joyce was an attractive lady, looks wise she was nothing more than an off-brand Liza Minnelli

I wish she married him instead of that dopey Philip. Janet's send off was pathetic. Did the producers even think of approaching him?

Joyce and Bushkin were living together in his Century City condo in the 80s.

Joyce was cute, but more importantly she was on a top 5 network show and she was the girlfriend of Carson's lawyer, "Bombastic" Bushnik. Plus Carson tended to chase anything in a skirt anyway. So yes, he pursued her for awhile but she apparently wasn't interested. One thing you can say about Joyce DeWitt, she wasn't really one of those ruthlessly ambitious types. If anything, she was a bit too laissez-faire about her career.

Johnny Carson had a thing for lesbians, probably not knowing they were lesbians - Lana Cantrell, Judy Carne, Lauren Hutton, Fannie Flagg, even Lena Horne. Obviously he knew Martina Navratilova was one, but he loooooved her.

"really missed the height of Joyce's fame."
Yes, she really soared higher than Everest at her peak.

Well, after she saw how they chewed up and spit out Suzanne Somers, Joyce thought she better keep a low profile.

Someone put a post-plastic surgery and obnoxious nose jobed picture of Joyce like this on Phyllis Newman's Facebook page thinking it was Phyllis.

I think he was partly attracted to women who were funny and sexy.
His mother was a narcissistic cold piece of shit. A Mother like that usually end up with sons who crave love and attention from lots of women. JFK is another example.

R12 Poor Joyce had a terrible nose job. I thought her original Italian nose really suited her face.

So how do you explain his attraction to Joan Rivers?

R14, I don't think that nose was "original," but is it didn't look like the local butcher had shaped it.

I found one of her High School yearbook photos and it looks like she might have had a subtle nose at some point before she got the disastrous one she now sports.
