Dr. Jill Biden urges voters to consider her husband's electability, saying: "your candidate might be better on, I don’t know, healthcare than Joe is, but you’ve got to look at who’s going to win this election."
Wow.

“Doctor”
by Anonymous | reply 6 | August 20, 2019 3:48 AM |
The fact is the other candidates are NOT better than Biden on healthcare! They're just all parroting Bernie Sanders who has never helped a single person get health insurance in his life! Such foolishness.

I'll $upport Joe if he picks Stacey Abrams as his VP.

by Anonymous | reply 11 | August 20, 2019 7:39 AM |
This is pretty telling. Essentially, she's admitting that the only real reason to vote for him is that he can probably beat Trump.
But unfortunately for her, at this point, he's not the only one. Warren, Harris, and Bernie all also beat Trump, and Pete is close to pulling ahead of him. There really is no reason to vote for Joe in the primary. We need new blood, not ancient blood.
by Anonymous | reply 12 | August 20, 2019 9:55 AM |
r12 Electability is subjective as no one can settle on what it actually means. Plus, national horse races at this moment that you mention are meaningless as most people start paying attention to the primary after Labour Day, and some of the voters we need in the general only in the fall of next year. In short, we won't know what exactly electability means until after election day.
by Anonymous | reply 13 | August 20, 2019 10:58 AM |
Will we have to call her "Doctor”when she's First Lady? Such a bullshit title for someone with an education doctorate.

No, she's saying delivering a variation on Koch: if you agree with me on 9 out of 12 issues, vote for me. If you agree with me on 12 out of 12 issues, see a psychiatrist.
Democrats are determined to screw this up. This isn't a normal election. This is about one thing: winning. But let's ignore the reality of how to do that and fuck it up. Because another four years of what we've had is worth it.

R3 please know that whoever the DEM candidate for President of the United States of America is, THAT is the person I will be voting for.
by Anonymous | reply 19 | August 20, 2019 11:39 AM |
Same fuckery they pulled to nominate Hillary over Bernie. You gotta watch a party that picks its candidates based solely on polls and compromise
by Anonymous | reply 20 | August 20, 2019 11:40 AM |
Joe Biden has expanded his edge over the Democratic field in a new CNN poll conducted by SSRS, with 29% of Democratic and Democratic-leaning registered voters saying they back the former vice president.
That's up 7 points compared with a late June CNN survey. No other candidate has made meaningful gains over that time.
The shift returns Biden to a double-digit lead over his nearest competitors, Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders at 15% and Massachusetts Sen. Elizabeth Warren at 14%. Their support is largely unchanged since earlier this summer.

[quote]You gotta watch a party that picks its candidates based solely on polls and compromise
Well, let's bear that in mind as we think about the present day Republican Party.
How's that working out for you?
by Anonymous | reply 22 | August 20, 2019 12:15 PM |
Heh. She's not wrong as R2 already said, but this is one of the quiet things you're not supposed to say out loud.
I mean, part of me appreciates the honesty. It's what I like about Warren and Buttegieg, too, instead of the various "love is the answer" or "socialism now" angles other candidates take.
No one is voting for Biden because he's got the best social policies. They're panicked and want to get Trump out of office ASAP before he causes more damage than he's already done. It's an imperfect solution but at least it's a solution, and honestly, is it any worse than if a candidate further left was elected but was stymied on everything? At least Biden might possibly have a chance to negotiate with Repugs who remember him from the pre-Trump days.
by Anonymous | reply 23 | August 20, 2019 12:26 PM |
Even if he doesn't, he's an interim solution. His VP pick will be thoughtful and broadly guided by lots of different people and perspectives... they know they are picking the heir to the throne. Does anyone really believe he will seek two terms? (And even if it did... what's worse... two terms of Biden or two terms of Trump?). Biden wants the mantle of saviour and I say give it to him... he can deliver the goods - that's displacing Trump and if he does anything else, gift with purchase. This is four years of safety. Take it.

[QUOTE]Heh. She's not wrong as R2 already said, but this is one of the quiet things you're not supposed to say out loud.
Uhh, the Biden campaign said it out loud in its new campaign ad. I don’t know why people are acting like Jill made some sort of gaffe. This is the message that Biden’s people are pushing.
by Anonymous | reply 25 | August 20, 2019 12:34 PM |
Do you really think he'll make it through ONE term, though?
by Anonymous | reply 26 | August 20, 2019 12:51 PM |
#1 priority of all Dems - who can beat Trump. Nothing else matters.
by Anonymous | reply 27 | August 20, 2019 1:06 PM |
[QUOTE]Do you really think he'll make it through ONE term, though?
Who cares if he does? We only need him to live through the election, securing the White House for Democrats. If he dropped dead a week after his inauguration, his Vice President would not only have four years in office but be able to run for two more terms afterward. The same goes for Bernie Sanders or any other candidate (younger people die too, believe it or not).
The most important thing that must be done is allowing Ruth Bader Ginsburg to step down from the Supreme Court so she can be replaced by another liberal. The Vice President will make the same appointment that Joe would (and it better not be Merrick fucking Garland).
by Anonymous | reply 28 | August 20, 2019 1:08 PM |
She's not wrong, she's practical. Someone who can beat Trump is more of a priority in 2020 than someone who can't but who wants to 'revolutionize' the system. The latter is good and well but we need the Dump cancer and his admin OUT of office and a 'revolutionary' who polls highly primarily with people who don't vote isn't going to achieve that.
by Anonymous | reply 29 | August 20, 2019 1:30 PM |
This is the same shit they pulled with Hillary. She can beat Trump, she may not be perfect but... The trouble now is, not only do I foresee Biden losing to Trump, I don’t see any of the other Dem nominees being able to beat him either. This is a terrible crop of candidates. They’re good for running for Congress or mayor but not the presidency. Unless Trump sinks the economy by November 2020, Dems are screwed.
by Anonymous | reply 30 | August 20, 2019 5:06 PM |
[quote]She's not wrong, she's practical.
She is wrong though. Trump will play Biden getting touchy with women and smelling their hair in a loop with his arsenal of cash 24/7 on every network. Every gaffe he’s made will be nationalized as well not to mention that he’s completely out of touch with where the party is causing people to stay home.
by Anonymous | reply 31 | August 20, 2019 5:08 PM |
Wait until the Anita Hill commercials start. You’ve got racism and sexism rolled into one not to mention that Biden fucked up Congress in Republicans’ favor by changing the Senate rules. He had no business running.

She doesn't want this.
by Anonymous | reply 33 | August 20, 2019 5:11 PM |
Joe might make a decent President (how could he be worse than Trump?) but he's a lousy campaigner. Doesn't know how to assert or sell himself.
His campaign slogan should maybe be "TRUST EXPERIENCE".
by Anonymous | reply 34 | August 20, 2019 5:12 PM |
And Biden's camp can play "grab them by the pussy" on an endless loop, r31.
The only person who would have a morality advantage is Jimmy Carter and he's not in the race. Otherwise, Trump has just as much or worse fodder that can be played endlessly.
by Anonymous | reply 35 | August 20, 2019 5:15 PM |
Oh Debbie Downer/#30, we have a cunthound cheater, liar, thief, bankrupt ex-reality TV star rapist in the White House. If no one can beat that, we might as well sell-out to Russia right now.

Hillary tried that. No one cares. All Americans care about is money. Trump has become the new normal and as long as they have money in their pocket they’ll stick with the devil they know. The GOP has 20x more money than the DNC and will play ads every two seconds making Biden out to be a clown. They will drown out any ad Biden tries. Biden has waaay more baggage than Hillary or Trump combined. 40 years worth. Have we forgotten how many times he ran for president? He’s a proven loser.
by Anonymous | reply 37 | August 20, 2019 5:28 PM |
R37 that was in response to someone saying Trump will air nothing but Biden sniffing hair. It wasn't to be taken in isolation. And to your point, this isn't 2016. Suburban housewives who voted for Trump in 2016 went moderate Democrat in 2018, so you can't say it won't work this time.
by Anonymous | reply 38 | August 20, 2019 5:32 PM |
The POTUS is just one man and no matter who he (or she) he's going to be prone to mistakes. He does not do it all alone. The key to a good presidency is having the best cabinet members, advisors, and staff members.

"Hillary tried that. No one cares."
Nope, it worked- for a while. Everyone was telling Trump it was over (except loony Steve Bannon).
But that's when they called the Russians for help. Then Jim Comey and WikiLeaks finished her off.
I'm waiting for the final shoe to drop (after 3 years): "Russians were able to hack voting machines in every state".

R14: As someone working toward a PhD, it takes a lot of effort to get that degree. So yes, we, and you, will call her Doctor. She has earned it.
But don't worry, you'll only have to worry about it till Warren wins the nomination. Then she'll go to the golf course with her husband and you'll never have to think about her again.
by Anonymous | reply 48 | August 20, 2019 6:58 PM |
Warren won't win once it becomes clear that her free stuff will come at a higher cost than she's letting on.
by Anonymous | reply 49 | August 20, 2019 7:09 PM |
But she doesn’t have a PhD, she has an EdD. It’s a professional degree not an academic one - more like a double masters, one in education and one in business.
Technically anyone can call themselves ‘Doctor’, so it’s not as if Jill Biden is breaking the law. But traditionally in academia that term is reserved for MDs and PhDs.
by Anonymous | reply 50 | August 20, 2019 7:15 PM |
Actually, R49, yes, it does. The spending for health care remains the same; it's just now used to cover everyone. And for a lower price than, as a country, we are paying today.

Actually, it's not Republican propaganda. A wealth tax, payroll tax, transaction tax and military spending cuts don't come anywhere near what's needed.
And let's not even discuss the fact that a wealth tax may be unconstitutional or that funds will decrease dramatically during market downturns. But, hey...Republican talking points.
