That's not true. If state has a age of consent at 16, that means it is legal for a 40 year old and a 16 year old to have a sexual relationship.

October 8 - The judge denied the defense's request for a directed verdict on the sexual exploitation charge, so the trial will pick up next week on October 15 for the defense to present their side. Similarly, the judge denied the motion for a directed verdict on the disorderly conduct charge as well, with the local newspaper finally detailing what that's all about: "Singer is accused of disturbing the peace of the boy's parents, who saw some of the text messages Singer allegedly sent."

October 15 - As some considered might happen, Singer's defense attorney did not call any witnesses and went directly to closing arguments. The judge is expected to rule November 5.

February 11, 2020 court action ...

The motion to dismiss for the new trial on the disorderly conduct charge took a surprising turn, when the guilty verdict for it was re-instated by the judge, so Singer now faces sentencing for that in April.

The defense is already making noise about this being good grounds for appeal.

Even if he gets the maximum 30 days in jail for disorderly conduct, he'd be out in 15 days due to Illinois' day-for-day law for misdemeanors.

How typical.

Last week Singer was back in court and sentencing details were reported in the local news.

He was found "Not Guilty" on the more serious Class A misdemeanor charge of Sexual Explotiation of a Child - Remove Clothing.

He was found "Guilty" on the Class C misdemeanor charge of "Disorderly Conduct". That charge was brought against him based on the boy's parents becoming "alarmed" when they found-read the text messages that he'd sent their son.
