Just look at this video. Dripping wet bodies of multiple half nude men with seductive stares? Seems meant for a gay audience to me!
There's no way the Backstreet Boys were intended to appeal to young girls
by Anonymous | reply 78 | January 6, 2021 3:26 AM |
Yes. They were. In Europe.
Where they made it big before the USA.

It might come as a surprise to some of you queens, but gays and girls both like half nude men with seductive stares....
by Anonymous | reply 2 | August 17, 2019 2:29 PM |
Girls are not as visual as men. They don't like seeing nipples of men!
by Anonymous | reply 3 | August 17, 2019 2:33 PM |
Yeah R2, sluts.
by Anonymous | reply 4 | August 17, 2019 2:33 PM |
OP sounds ignorant
by Anonymous | reply 5 | August 17, 2019 2:36 PM |
I'm sure that most of my adult kinks can be traced back to watching Take That's first video, 'Do What You Like' when I was a nine year-old.

I'd imagine most things come as a surprise to OP.
by Anonymous | reply 7 | August 17, 2019 2:40 PM |
I like how they are five feet apart chilling in the hot tub when they are wet and shirtless.
by Anonymous | reply 8 | August 17, 2019 2:45 PM |
R3 they don't like to see naked or half-naked random strangers, but a guy or boy band they fancy? You betcha!
by Anonymous | reply 9 | August 17, 2019 2:47 PM |
Y'all remember XY, the magazine ostensibly aimed at gay teens, with a creepy undercurrent? The one that DL Icon Colton Haynes appeared in?
Yeah, they appeared it in. Nick Carter was even on the cover. And this was in 1997, when that didn't happen.
by Anonymous | reply 10 | August 17, 2019 2:49 PM |
R10 he was on the cover to sell issues.
by Anonymous | reply 11 | August 17, 2019 2:56 PM |
Made for gays and cougars.
by Anonymous | reply 12 | August 17, 2019 2:57 PM |
They were named for a gay bar in Atlanta (yeah right, a food market in Orlando....NOT!)
by Anonymous | reply 13 | August 17, 2019 3:05 PM |
[quote][R10] he was on the cover to sell issues.
Yes, obviously.
My point is that when they were first starting to break into the US market, they appeared in a gay magazine. In 1997.
by Anonymous | reply 14 | August 17, 2019 3:09 PM |
R13 I thought they were named after Rolling Stones' "Backstreet Girl"?
by Anonymous | reply 15 | August 17, 2019 3:10 PM |
Well yes they wanted to market them widest possible audience, to girls and to gays r14. Why wouldn't they?
by Anonymous | reply 16 | August 17, 2019 3:12 PM |
They needed to market them to girls and gays. Without them they would be nothing.
Straight guys don’t go crazy over boy bands.

R6 There was a fully nude version made of that video and they made appearances at Heaven. Take That were completely aimed at gays.

Kevin Richardson looked very similar to gay porn star Eric Hanson.

by Anonymous | reply 28 | August 17, 2019 6:12 PM |
I remember when they did that 2000 Rolling Stone cover story/interview. I was surprised and pleased that they discussed their masturbation habits. Apparently, Nick was the group's most frequent masturbator. I remember Nick being somewhat embarrassed and saying, "You all know you do it as much as me!" to which Kevin retorted, "Yeah, I like to rub one out every now and then."

i'm not one of those people who insists I know who all the other people posting here are. Both some of the threads on Shawn Mendes and Timothee seem to be filled with hysterical teenage girls. It's well known that teenage fangurls tend to be more interested in non-threating young men. But then, maybe that's because I'd rather not imagine grown gay men obsessing over celebrities like that.

Kevin is the only one that can barely sing. He has no business being front and center in that photo.
by Anonymous | reply 35 | August 17, 2019 6:29 PM |
Take That had one song that charted in the states, and that’s it.
And it’s their only good one.
by Anonymous | reply 36 | August 17, 2019 6:30 PM |
We tried to appeal to girls and GURRRLS.
by Anonymous | reply 37 | August 17, 2019 6:37 PM |
I think the BSBs all have decent voices. You can hear each one of them singing separate lines here.
by Anonymous | reply 38 | August 17, 2019 6:59 PM |
I didn't care about their voices.
by Anonymous | reply 39 | August 17, 2019 7:54 PM |
Howie's the gay one from BSB, right? Though I heard Lou Pearlman had a thing for blondes so I'm guessing Nick had to take one for the team which is why he and his brother are fucked up.
by Anonymous | reply 42 | August 17, 2019 10:18 PM |
Nick is the only one not attached to anyone in the group. He’s the young “cute” one they found for the group, like Justin (although he knew JC), who was added to the group last for the appeal.
by Anonymous | reply 43 | August 17, 2019 10:21 PM |
Howie is incredibly sexy and adorable (to me), but I think that Nick was the one that was abused by Lou Pearlman. Brian and Kevin were (are) cousins from Kentucky, and Howie and AJ already knew each other back in Florida. Nick's family is a known mess.
by Anonymous | reply 44 | August 18, 2019 6:45 AM |
Well, hate to point out the obvious, but there were a lot of overhead shots (camera looking down). Kind of creepy because these guys were pretty young, hairless, etc.
by Anonymous | reply 45 | August 18, 2019 7:31 AM |
AJ has tons of stage presence and charisma. When he dances I can't take my eyes away and his singing is commanding and raspy. I'm not even attracted to his bearish looks.
Howie has the lowest stage presence. His dancing is almost chore-like/ robotic. They played some Vino festival in March and even the backing dancers caught my eye more than Howie.
Kevin has the 2nd least stage presence but he has height and looks handsome (in the most conventional way). Dances well but very professional/controlled movements.
by Anonymous | reply 46 | August 18, 2019 2:01 PM |
I think Kevin also has the weakest voice. From what I remember, he barely solo'd back in their heyday.
by Anonymous | reply 47 | August 18, 2019 2:44 PM |
R47 Kevin can barely sing. He’s more for harmonies but not melodies.
by Anonymous | reply 48 | August 18, 2019 2:47 PM |
I think he did have the best body. But unfortunately, it was seated below his kind of rat-like face.
by Anonymous | reply 49 | August 18, 2019 2:57 PM |
R45 What exactly is so sinister about overhead shots? Half their act was their dancing so overhead shots make sense to me.
by Anonymous | reply 50 | August 20, 2019 3:00 AM |
There's a reason none of them broke out as solo artists. They work better as unit and harmonize well. Nick was slated for a solo career and got a big push but doesn't have much talent and he's not interesting, sexy or charismatic either. He choose to sing pop rock but doesn't have the voice for it though he doesn't have much of a voice at all.
NSYNC was really the JC and JT show. NKOTB was the Jordan Knight and Joe McIntyre show. New Edition was the Ralph Tresvant and Bobby Brown (later Johnny Gill) show.
by Anonymous | reply 51 | January 4, 2021 10:38 PM |
Have they ever sung with Lulu?
by Anonymous | reply 52 | January 4, 2021 10:59 PM |
BSB was very much for teen girls and they had a male fanbase too those who appreciated the rock-R&B (Max Martin) sound they did. Their early stuff was more R&B like "All I Have to Give" and "I'll Never Break Your Heart".
Right Stuff by NKOTB was apparently played in gay clubs. Jordan Knight was sex on legs. But NKOTB was mainly marketed at first to black people and got their start being played on R&B stations. They were the white New Edition.
Take That was very clearly marketed to gays. They toured in gay clubs often scantily clad in leather get-up. Barely legal twinks with hard bodies. There is a music video of them playing in whipped cream and they did covers of disco songs. Their manager was gay too. Robbie Williams was the original gay-baiter not Harry Styles

Back then, I foolishly and bizarrely believed that *NSYNC was the better and hotter boyband. Circa fifth grade me was an idiot. I now realize the Backstreet Boys were more talented and at least 80% - 100% hot. *NSYNC's managed 60% hot, at most. And only if you’re being very generous.
by Anonymous | reply 54 | January 4, 2021 11:31 PM |
There's overlap. In South America, girls were very outspoken about their love and lust for them. When I was an 11-year-old gay boy, I felt something for Nick, too, though I was less vocal about it.
by Anonymous | reply 55 | January 4, 2021 11:33 PM |
NSYNC felt bigger because they peaked later.
Backstreet Boys were popular from 97 to 2000. NSYNC was popular from 1998 to 2002.
NSYNC were more poppy and uptempo and had much more of a hip-hop influence too. They were much more heavy on the visuals and spectacle too which made them a heavier mainstay on MTV. JT dating Britney also helped up their profile.

The venn diagram of what type of guys 14 yr old girls love and what type of guys twink-inclined gay men love is pretty close to a perfect circle tbh.

by Anonymous | reply 59 | January 5, 2021 12:14 AM |
These boy band managers (Nigel Martin-Smith, Lou Perlman, Maurice Starr, Edgardo Díaz, Simon Cowell) are all shady and greedy old perverts. If they aren't stealing these boys' money, they are often molesting them too. Nick Carter, Robbie Williams, Justin Timberlake, Aaron Carter, Lance Bass and most of Menudo including Ricky Martin are probably all traumatized from abuse.

I'm not sure. A lot of these boy band members seem asexual or doll-like. More for cuddling and swooning over then actual sex.
Also I really hope twink loving gay men aren't checking out middle/high school-aged boys that the local 14 year old girls also swoon over.

Women love male bodies. Especially adolescent girls and young women. Most seem (based on my experiences) to have a strong sexual preferences for very thin guys who writhe around suggestively. My sister loved Bon Jovi and other rock stars who were built like him, as well as the shirtless chickens from New Kids on the Block. My mom loved Steven Tyler, Robert Plant et al. They once asked me why "gay guys like men with big boobs," saying "men's chests should be flat."
by Anonymous | reply 62 | January 5, 2021 12:52 PM |
I guess it depends on the culture. Many young black girls and Latinas love young athletic muscular men (albeit still with pretty faces) . Usher, Nelly, Tupac, D'Angelo, Mekhi Phifer, Michael B Jordan, etc.
Some black twinks like the boy band B2K, Bow Wow, Romeo, Chris Brown and now Asap Rocky have a lot of fangirls though.
by Anonymous | reply 63 | January 5, 2021 1:05 PM |
Backstreet Boys were the most successful band, by quite a large number of $.
by Anonymous | reply 64 | January 5, 2021 1:14 PM |
Its a shame that more talented Boyz II Men amd New Edition were not the most successful. The Osmonds even outsold The Jackson 5.
No accounting for taste

NSYNC had more sexualized lyrics and slicker production and JC Chasez was a sexy frontman with a buttery smooth voice. He was a grown ass man.
by Anonymous | reply 67 | January 5, 2021 1:29 PM |
R67 that takes me back. I wanted to marry JC when I was ten...then I grew up into a lesbian.
My straight sister wanted to fuck Brian Littrell & Joey Fatone, and probably still would do either given the chance.

This is an excellent comment. On-point.
Here's what I'm interested to know, thought--why did the taste in twink-type change so drastically from the 80s to the 90s? Was it just that predominant style of music culture changed, from rock to hip-hop/rap?
From the Beatles all the way up to Motley Crue, the preferred male music pinup was as the above describes; slim seductive pretty guys who are snappy or flamboyant dressers, but also with guitars and shaggy long hair and a sneery hypersexual rude or abusive attitude toward women. Then we get to 1992/3, grunge kicks rock in the cuntbone, and suddenly all the cheesecake for women & girls look very much more cleancut and ck-ish, with short hair and a "hey girl, don't cry" puppy-eyed kind of demeanour. It was quite sudden and drastic a left turn. Maybe the rock guys Me-Too'd one too many groupies?
Young women don't really go nuts for little raspy voiced punks in leather & denim anymore, do they?
by Anonymous | reply 70 | January 5, 2021 2:09 PM |
BSB's reputation is a bit tainted among their fans just like Hanson's is.
Brian Littrel is a Trump supporter and annoyingly smug. And some can't dissociate Nick from his brother Aaron who accused Nick of being abusive.

Boybands are designed for sexually-naive or very young girls and Frauen, non? Even now.
The teen/twenty-something girls & MILFy women with an interest in sex all want greasy tatted-up 'bad boys' like Post Malone or Ronnie Radke. Compare a Warped Tour groupie to a One Direction fan, and Stones fan to a Beatles fan. Plus ca change....

I thought the Backstreet Boys were pretty attractive too as a little kid. But I never really paid much attention to them for long. I mostly cared about the female pop stars like Britney, Christina Aguilera, Brandy and Destiny's Child and the forgotten No Secrets and A*Teens. If I had boy bands that looked like Take That or New Kids On The Block did then I would have paid way more attention as they were much hunkier and sexier.
I don't think I really discovered my homosexuality until I watched Thirteenth Year on Disney Channel and Not Another Teen Movie with Chris Evans shirtless. Also the male nudity on Jackass, Wildboyz and Real World turned me on a lot. Justin Timberlake, Nelly, Eminem and Usher all had nice bodies too though their faces were not really beautiful.
