Inspired by the TV Moments, to this day I watch it and I'm a sobbing idiot. I have never had that kind of reaction. What is it about it that makes it so emotional? I still haven't figured it out.
Finest ending to any TV series ever.

Ever.

I will never forget the emotional impact of that ending. I think it’s one of the best conceived/ directed scenes ever.
by Anonymous | reply 3 | August 15, 2019 11:48 PM |
It was perfect, hence the tears.

Why did Claire get to live to be 102, but everyone else died in their 70's and 80's?
by Anonymous | reply 5 | August 16, 2019 12:00 AM |
R5 I’ve always thought it’s because she lived further into the future & science had people living longer. Or something like that.
by Anonymous | reply 6 | August 16, 2019 12:05 AM |
I had actually forgotten that the Fishers had a sister!
For some reason, I only remembered Ruth, David, and Brian Krause.
by Anonymous | reply 7 | August 16, 2019 12:07 AM |
Brian? You mean Nate?
by Anonymous | reply 8 | August 16, 2019 12:09 AM |
Whoops! I meant Nate... lol
by Anonymous | reply 9 | August 16, 2019 12:10 AM |
was just thinking about this series finale today and how it's the best ever. You read my mind OP.
by Anonymous | reply 10 | August 16, 2019 12:10 AM |
I watched the entire series when it came out but never bothered to watch the finale. I dislike emotionalism.
by Anonymous | reply 11 | August 16, 2019 12:12 AM |
When you think of how many fucked it up, the satisfaction and clarity of this thing is doubled. Probably the best ending ever. Satisfying without being too neat or too cloying... yet affirming, optimistic. Just a great piece of work. It shows the love we can have for each other, in all its imperfection.
by Anonymous | reply 12 | August 16, 2019 12:13 AM |
Ditto, R12. And the music is so haunting.
by Anonymous | reply 13 | August 16, 2019 12:16 AM |
I started crying when ghost Nate told Claire, "You can't take a picture of this -it's already gone." and didn't stop crying until the final frame. I couldn't listen to Sia's "Breathe Me" for the longest time.
by Anonymous | reply 14 | August 16, 2019 12:17 AM |
I absolutely love that shot of old ladies Clair and Brenda chatting at the picnic table. Just marvellous... friendship, history, constancy... marvellous choice.
by Anonymous | reply 15 | August 16, 2019 12:18 AM |
It became a shit show after season three, so I stopped watching it. Couldn't care less about the finale either.
by Anonymous | reply 16 | August 16, 2019 12:48 AM |
And David seeing the love of his life again in the moments before he goes. Hate that he lost Keith too soon.
by Anonymous | reply 17 | August 16, 2019 12:48 AM |
I saw this when it aired and was crying like a baby. It was so perfect, and so moving.
Loved SFU.
by Anonymous | reply 18 | August 16, 2019 12:54 AM |
We all get it in the end...
by Anonymous | reply 19 | August 16, 2019 12:56 AM |
R16 Thanks for chiming in!
by Anonymous | reply 20 | August 16, 2019 12:59 AM |
Well, it certainly isn't a Moldavian Wedding Massacre.
by Anonymous | reply 21 | August 16, 2019 1:02 AM |
Perfection! Season 5 redeemed the mess that was Season 3 and part of 4
by Anonymous | reply 22 | August 16, 2019 1:07 AM |
Sorry, I LOVED Season 3. Season 4 was the mess- and even Season 4 had its moments.
Season 5 was STELLAR.
by Anonymous | reply 23 | August 16, 2019 1:21 AM |
Season 2 was the mess - but in the end I love the whole show.
by Anonymous | reply 24 | August 16, 2019 1:26 AM |
Break out for me the seasons that were a mess.
Whenever it was, the whole Lili Taylor thing drove me nuts. And I was ready for Nate to die. He was a pointless asshole. And I hated Ruth's Russian florist. But fiercely from the eye was pretty funny.
by Anonymous | reply 25 | August 16, 2019 1:29 AM |
I LOVE Lili Taylor, but she ruined this show
by Anonymous | reply 26 | August 16, 2019 1:33 AM |
R25 That Russian florist put so much emphasis on his fake stereotypical accent, I had to forward through his scenes.
by Anonymous | reply 27 | August 16, 2019 1:33 AM |
Lisa was a horrible character.
by Anonymous | reply 28 | August 16, 2019 1:35 AM |
This is one of my favorite shows. I have the entire program on DVD. I was able to scarf it up cheap when Tower Records closed up.
by Anonymous | reply 29 | August 16, 2019 1:37 AM |
R26 Same here. And it wasn't Lili Taylor that ruined the show, it was the way the character was written.
by Anonymous | reply 30 | August 16, 2019 1:38 AM |
R25- I have NOT watched in years.
Season 1 and 2 were brilliant- Season 2 - a mess??? Get fucked!!
Season 3- Had a lot of Bettina (LOVED HER- that great episode when Ruth's sister was coming off drugs. Season 3 was greatly about Lisa and Nate's relationship. I LOVED Lisa - she was so brittle and unlikeable- yet so real. People HATED Lisa, so it was then very easy to hate Season 3. Also, Season 3 did not have alot of Brenda because the actress was pregnant. I stand by Season 3- It had great MOMENTS.
Season 4- VERY, VERY SOAP OPERA-ISH. It was all over the place. The Lisa denouement was extremely soap opera-ish in all respects. David's Special episode when he was terrorized by a psycho. The whole Clair Art scene. Season 4 was rough. It was like the show was running out of ideas.
Season 5 was a masterpiece. Very humane, deep life and death shit. A lot of symbolism and it was very intelligent. The finale was brilliant but some of the scenes in the ending vignette that everyone raves about were TRULY LAUGHABLE. Like cringeworthy.
by Anonymous | reply 31 | August 16, 2019 1:39 AM |
The show was always about Claire. If you think about it. She was the one who got away and went on to live to be one 100.
by Anonymous | reply 33 | August 16, 2019 2:02 AM |
As the NY Times put it:"and they all died happily ever after." SFU can be summed up like this: father in fucked up family unexpectedly dies. Whole family starts getting even more nutty and irrational. Eldest son dies unexpectedly. Whole family then does a turnaround and becomes stable and productive. The show had its moments but was frequently over the top crazy.
As for the finale...well, there were only two moments that I found moving. One was the scene where Claire is driving away and what's left of the Fisher family can be seen waving goodbye in the background. The other is when David sees a vision of a young, handsome Keith, the love of his life who died so long ago, right before he collapses and dies. I didn't much care for the fact Keith died a violent death, while all the others died peacefully or quickly. I also thought the freeper lawyer coming to Ruth's funeral (presumably to hook back up with Claire) was pretty stupid.
by Anonymous | reply 34 | August 16, 2019 2:22 AM |
The show started off being about Nate & then the torch was passed to Claire. The finale was her story.
by Anonymous | reply 35 | August 16, 2019 2:31 AM |
It was a great series and the finale was probably the best finale ever, for any series ever.
by Anonymous | reply 36 | August 16, 2019 4:07 AM |
You, ride up my thighs! There is nothing greater than this clip

by Anonymous | reply 38 | August 16, 2019 4:40 AM |
One of the best finales, ever

I never understood why Lauren Ambrose didn't have a bigger career post-SFU. Good actress, very cute-looking, good singer... Too unique, I guess.
by Anonymous | reply 40 | August 16, 2019 7:22 PM |
R40, she's been doing a lot of theater since Six Feet Under. I agree with you, she is a talented actress.
by Anonymous | reply 41 | August 16, 2019 9:17 PM |
Lauren also has a band.
by Anonymous | reply 42 | August 17, 2019 4:03 AM |
Dame Diana Rigg was not happy that Ambrose skipped matinees when they did OUR FAIR LADY.
Rigg is annoyed that nobody from Lincoln Center told her or the rest of the cast that Ambrose decided to reduce her workload.
“I learnt, courtesy of a newspaper, that our leading lady will not be appearing in future Sunday matinees,” Rigg wrote in an email obtained by The Post. “Now call me old-fashioned, which I unashamedly am, but I don’t think this development is fair to audiences. They have booked their seats in advance, paying an exorbitant price for them to see what they have been led to believe is the original cast. The very least we can do as actors is to acknowledge their presence as a privilege and take care never to abuse it.”

Everyone agrees that The Sopranos ending was the best ever.
by Anonymous | reply 44 | August 17, 2019 4:42 AM |
R44 not if you don't watch typical bro-baiting shows like The Sopranos
by Anonymous | reply 45 | August 17, 2019 5:09 AM |
Claire, do you have an eating disorder? I wish.
by Anonymous | reply 46 | August 17, 2019 5:38 AM |
Lauren Ambrose singing "God Bless the Child" on Isaac Mizrahi's show at 6:28
by Anonymous | reply 47 | August 17, 2019 5:42 AM |
R47 just too much white Jewish appropriation of African American culture going on there!
by Anonymous | reply 48 | August 17, 2019 6:04 AM |
Actually I thought the Sopranos ending was apex of self indulgent creative teams giving loyal audiences the bird.
by Anonymous | reply 49 | August 17, 2019 1:10 PM |
Six Feet Under is my favorite series finale ever.
My number two shocks even me: The series finale for Dawson's Creek. It was an excellent 2-hour wrap up to the entire series, really well done.
Most series totally fuck up their series finale. I imagine it's really hard to do, given I can only think of two real stand-outs.
