People usually have two parents. The fact that he has an Italian sounding surname doesn't say anything about what his mother's ethnicity is.

How did he swing a producer credit for this? It maybe wrong to think it, but I wouldn't mind so much if he was gay and could give that kind of input into the production and shaping of the character.

I hated the film version of this so much: it was so dishonest, so not authentic to any gay teen's real-life experience. Maybe the TV version will be better.

I thought the movie was cute. You had to suspend some disbelief, but that's true in most films. It didn't seem any less realistic than something like Glee.
