Argentina is collapsing. Again.
They had their own Black Monday this week after election primaries delivered a defeat of the moderate technocrat president in favor of a populist law school professor. The stock market dumped 30%. The peso is plummeting.
Vacation deals are on the horizon. Hotel recommendations? Which modeling agencies have the best male models on loan? How are the clubs?

If ever there was a country that ought to do well but never seems to thrive, it's Argentina.
It's further and more expensive than you think, OP. Buenos Aires is an 11 hour flight from JFK, cheapest flights about $900. London is 6.5 hours for $350. 3 non-stops to BA. Dozens of non-stops to London Heathrow. Argentina needs to beef up its tourism advertising and make it easier and cheaper to get there. The country does have some amazing things to see and do.

Interestingly, the majority of immigrants to Argentina in post colonial times were Italian and they outnumber the Spanish by 45% vs 32%; and of course 8% German after the unpleasantries in the early 40's. I've always found the Argentinian men very attractive. For all the DL racists, the African ancestry population is 1%, making it whiter than Maine.

I spent six weeks in Buenos Aires. Loved it. Amazing food. And SO cheap.
Don’t use any of the official places for exchange. An expat can direct you to a blue market location where you’ll typically get a much better rate. Kind of a back room kind of thing. Beware of the guys on the street yelling “Cambio” though. Good way to get ripped off.

The reason why Argentina is collapsing is because Macri has sold all of its natural resources to foreign corporations and vulture funds, privatized all public sector companies and brutally slashed all budgets - especially healthcare, education, social services and infrastructure. He has also increased the national debt to obscene levels by taking countless loans from he IMF and private banks. Thus, it shouldn't come as a surprise to anyone that after he won, the levels of poverty skyrocketed and the streets were filled with entire families living in homelessness.
His answer to civil unrest has been brutal repression, trying to silence his critics by accusing them of corruption or other random crimes and filling his own pockets and those of his cronies. Needless to say, his popularity is below the asthenosphere and it shouldn't have come as a surprise for anyone that he has suffered a crushing defeat in the primary elections, and will be unceremoniously ousted in a few weeks.
The collapse of the peso and the stock markets are due to the fact that the Frente de Todos party has made it clear that the debt will have to be renegotiated and they refuse to pay anything that isn't legitimate, sending "investors" (more like vultures) into a panic. These are the same investors who got the US government to attack Argentina and do everything in its power to kick Cristina Kirchner out of power - yes, she is a rather despicable sow, but everybody else has been a million times worse.
Let's see how things evolve, but nothing can be worse or Argentina that remaining under that worthless sack of rubbish Macri.

Oh, and don’t miss the street fair in San Telmo. It goes on forever. And unlike many street fairs here, the merchandise overall is higher quality. More unique. You’ll find great artists and craftsmen selling beautiful handmade items.
The shopping centers are amazing. There are about half a dozen gigantic ones in these beautiful old buildings. I found it interesting they had as many stores catering to men’s fashion as women. As a rule, men there are much better dressed than here in the U.S.
Also don’t miss La Recoleta Cemetery where Eva Perón is entombed. I wandered around for hours taking photos and checking out hundreds of ornate tombs and mausoleums down narrow walkways. The most interesting ones were abandoned and partly decayed. Broken glass doors, tattered lace, rusty candelabras and coffins with lids askew. Even long abandoned, they have to stay registered to the family for 75-100 years before they can be sold and renovated.
The taxi drivers can be a little scary. The driver on my ride to the airport was like Mad Max. Lane markings there seem to be only a suggestion of where you might like to drive.
