Which Kennedy Now?

"A medical emergency has been reported at the Kennedy compound in Hyannisport, officials said tonight."

And why? Is it normal to refer questions about an ambulance run to the DA's office?

"The Hyannis Fire Department confirmed to the Herald that paramedics responded to 28 Marchant Ave., one of the Kennedy compound homes on the six-acre property, at 2:32 p.m.

One person was transported to the hospital, said fire Captain Greg Dardia, adding that he couldn’t disclose the person’s gender and age. He also declined to say what happened.

Barnstable police referred questions to the Cape and Islands District Attorney’s Office. The DA’s Office did not immediately respond to comment."

by Anonymousreply 2August 2, 2019 12:35 AM

CBS reported it was a young woman at Ethel Kennedy's compound.

by Anonymousreply 3August 2, 2019 12:35 AM

The Kennedys have a history of substance/alcohol abuse. And they’re Catholic. I’ve never read the assumption of sex abuse within the family. I wonder if that’s one of their hidden secrets?

by Anonymousreply 4August 2, 2019 12:36 AM

It's Ethel. Her finger got stuck up her nostril and cannot be dislodged!

by Anonymousreply 5August 2, 2019 12:38 AM

r4 there have been published rumors that Old Joe abused his daughters, particularly Rosemary who was handicapped.

He was widely known to have sexually harassed several of his daughters' friend who came to stay with the family over holidays or weekends.

by Anonymousreply 6August 2, 2019 12:42 AM

[R6] maybe that’s why he had her lobotomized, so she wouldn’t tell.

by Anonymousreply 7August 2, 2019 12:44 AM

I have friends who've lived in Hyannisport for years, they live a short distance from the compound. If the deceased is a Kennedy the Hyannis PD and authorities will absolutely shut down all information and leaks until the Kennedys decide what to release to the news media. They still have major control in that town and the PD are majorly in their back pockets (still).

If this person is a Kennedy they're lucky they died in H-port, since the news and other details will be tightly controlled by the family.

by Anonymousreply 8August 2, 2019 12:44 AM

Evidently a young woman OD 'd. I wonder how long they waited to call the police. Did they do a Ted and go to sleep off their bender first? The Kennedy's are all slime. Genetically defective sociopaths.

by Anonymousreply 24August 2, 2019 2:13 AM

“Saoirse is the only child of Courtney Kennedy Hill. While at the boarding school Deerfield Academy, Hill wrote about her struggle with depression and mental health. She talks about a sexual assault from a friend that lead to a suicide attempt. When Hill returned for her senior year after treatment, she felt the lack of communication about her mental illness to be very strange and unsettling.

"Deerfield is one of the top educational institutions in the country, yet no one seems to know how to talk about mental illness. People talk about cancer freely; why is it so difficult to discuss the effects of depression, bi-polar, anxiety, or schizophrenic disorders?" wrote Hill in an article for The Deerfield Scroll. Thankfully, Hill used her difficulties with depression to reach out to others and create a more open environment to discuss mental illness.”

Damn.

by Anonymousreply 25August 2, 2019 2:14 AM

Ethel is 91 and still kicking, meanwhile...

[quote]In a 1997 piece on the Kennedys' children, Vanity Fair noted "one son's death by drug overdose, another's arrest for heroin possession, and the involvement of Joe himself in reckless driving that left a girl paralyzed for life, along with a general trend of overindulgence among the sons that has sent several of them into rehab".[24] These remarks respectively referred to her sons David,[26] Robert Jr.,[27] and Joseph.[28][29]

by Anonymousreply 65August 2, 2019 7:49 AM

Could someone give me an overview? Joe Kennedy was the patriarch and his sons were John and Robert. John F. had two kids, John jr. and a girl. There was also Ted Kennedy (who was in an accident that killed a girl when he was younger). Was he a brother, cousin? Schwarzenegger also married a Kennedy. Are there more famous Kennedys?

by Anonymousreply 66August 2, 2019 9:20 AM

"that girl" you refer to is Caroline, the only normal Kennedy, who got all the brains, poise, wit and common sense, but none of the looks.

by Anonymousreply 67August 2, 2019 9:41 AM

This death and the death of the alcoholic wife the Kennedy was gaslighting aren’t satisfying like the playing football with an empty vodka bottle on skis and flying at night without being instrument rated deaths. This is sad.

The article she wrote for the school paper is somehow even sadder. She constructively criticizes the school for not proactively managing her return after a year of psychiatric treatment. Where the fuck were her parents? They didn’t meet with her teachers and counselors? And she didn’t realize (or couldn’t face) that it was their job? I’m making a lot of assumptions, but that article was depressing.

by Anonymousreply 68August 2, 2019 10:25 AM

R55, it's not hard to guess that the imprisonment affected her father profoundly, if just from the article at R51. Gerry Conlon (played by Daniel Day Lewis in In the Name of the Father) suffered from mental breakdowns and drug addictions.

by Anonymousreply 69August 2, 2019 11:52 AM

Conlon was another of the Guildford Four, I meant to add. A number of his relatives were also convicted on trumped-up charges, including his father, who died in prison.

by Anonymousreply 72August 2, 2019 1:28 PM

AP totally buried the lead regarding the Guildford Four connection.

If it was an intentional suicide they will never admit it, like the old-fashioned Catholics they are.

by Anonymousreply 74August 2, 2019 1:43 PM

The Kennedys are a big family. If you remove the assassinations are these so called tragedies really statistical anomalies?

by Anonymousreply 75August 2, 2019 2:18 PM

by Anonymousreply 76August 2, 2019 2:28 PM

Boston College is in the top 50 Universities in the country and is highly respected, unlike R82 who loves to generalize and judge. No, not everyone on the Cape has a drug problem and in case you've been under a rock these past few years, the opioid epidemic is affecting everyone.

She suffered from depression and had a history of attempting suicide. Depression is not uncommon in Irish families. It's hereditary and devastating. Seemingly lovely people with everything to live for are affected. May she rest in peace.

by Anonymousreply 87August 2, 2019 3:59 PM

None of Ethel's four daughters were 'pretty', but Courtney was the homeliest of the bunch. At least her own daughter was pretty, but unfortunately that didn't alleviate the psychic pain she suffered.

by Anonymousreply 88August 2, 2019 4:06 PM

This family ceased to be relevant decades ago.

by Anonymousreply 89August 2, 2019 4:15 PM

As opposed to r89 who was never relevant.

by Anonymousreply 90August 2, 2019 4:19 PM

Boo-fucking hoo. I'm sorry the young woman died from her own self-destructive behavior, but at some point you'd have to point out the self-indulgence too. I work part-time at a county psych clinic where disadvantaged people including the uninsured/ working poor come in for treatment; I currently have a few patients who are homeless and working part-time. I prescribe meds and get my patients referrals for psychotherapy if necessary but most of them are lucky to find a therapist within 6 months because the system is so clogged up. Many of them have PTSD on top of their core psych diagnoses because of background/ childhood of abuse and substance use. Most of them don't harp on their history as excuse to become mired in victimhood because they're too busy working, finding shelter over their heads, and trying to support themselves. Sorry, but it really grates on me to read about a poor little rich girl with all the money and connections to seek proper help, whinge about being a victim.

Ethel was known for being an abusive bitch to the hired help, she was both physically and verbally abusive to maids and other staff that she routinely tormented. Many of the Kennedys are shitty people and I don't understand why the mainstream media keep giving them passes and even in fact continue to celebrate them. Both JFK and RFK abused their powers and positions to fuck young female staff and volunteers, but yet they're still being held up as paragons of public service today. FFS Teddy killed a woman and failed to report the accident until much later, yet when he died he was hailed as a hero of the left. Today RFK Jr is an anti-vaxx activist, continuing the family tradition of jackassery.

by Anonymousreply 91August 2, 2019 4:26 PM

r91 probably supports Trump, a man who has been accused of assault by over a dozen women. You certainly seem to lack empathy for others, which goes along with being a Trump supporter.

by Anonymousreply 92August 2, 2019 4:32 PM

Surprised there isn’t more about the father. What attracts a Kennedy to marry someone like that? Also interesting is that the Kennedy trust funds are still going after all these years and through so many kids. Impressive. Would love to know more about how those trusts work - that they can support dozens of people decades after old man Joe made the money.

by Anonymousreply 93August 2, 2019 4:35 PM

I read the article she wrote about returning to school after being out, dealing with her depression. She said she had friends who knew what she had been going through, but due to the HIPAA medical privacy law, nobody else knew. She didn't state what her school could have done to make things better for her (upon her return). The school did maintain her privacy. I think it's sad what she was dealing with, but can't blame the school for following HIPAA and not disseminating medical info.

by Anonymousreply 94August 2, 2019 4:38 PM

R92 Troll harder bitch, only someone with subpar Trumpian level IQ would equate criticism of Kennedys with being a Trumpeter.

by Anonymousreply 95August 2, 2019 4:39 PM

R92 is either a troll or stupid. R91, who works with the poor, dares to criticize the Kennedy family and the only rejoinder R91 has is is that R91 is a Trump supporter.

by Anonymousreply 96August 2, 2019 4:40 PM

Meant to say Trumpster

by Anonymousreply 97August 2, 2019 4:42 PM

r96, Republicans LOVE to attack the Kennedy family. And I find it sad that someone who claims to work for the poor is so lacking in empathy towards others.

by Anonymousreply 98August 2, 2019 4:42 PM

It must be doubly hard to be in that family with mental health issues.

by Anonymousreply 99August 2, 2019 4:49 PM

R94 Yes you're correct about the HIPAA laws being applicable even in schools. Also schools are not nor should they be in the business of mental health; that's why the schools provide referrals for students who require individual therapy that the schools aren't able to provide. When I completed my pediatrics psych hours, my preceptor was a clinical psychologist who rotated between 6 schools in the district, and we did almost exclusively group therapy with elementary school kids. Aside from referrals for individual therapy, we also did a lot of intake assessments mostly involving so-called troubled kids who invariably dealt with some serious shit at home. Many of the 5th and 6th graders that I saw there were already smoking weed or doing other (much worse) types of drugs and having sex. Cutting was also a big thing there too. But yeah, complaining that schools aren't openly supportive of individual students and their possible behavioral/ emotional problems is walking a fine line. I suspect we'd be seeing lawsuits from those children's parents who'd see it as opportunities to make money from privacy laws.

by Anonymousreply 100August 2, 2019 4:54 PM

The White House doesn't go for booze and dope!

by Anonymousreply 101August 2, 2019 5:11 PM

R98 I balance empathy with a realistic approach, it's the only way to help people who are dealing with chronic, serious mental illnesses while trying to work and live their lives. I emphasize illnesses because the patients with such a profile (substance abuse, sexual/ physical abuse, underlying diagnoses such as depression etc...) at some point need to realize that there is no magic pill to alleviate all their symptoms. What we know is that many of these patients have low tolerance for stress and this can lead to further catastrophizing of everyday/ life milestone stressors. We're not going to help by coddling or giving more meds or increasing doses to maximum levels, these approaches do them no good. As a clinician, I'm going to help them be at a level where they can be functional and learn to help themselves cope with/ process past traumatic events and current stressors. That is best done with individual therapy which unfortunately is impacted significantly with demand overwhelming resources. Treatment with individual psychotherapy along with meds is the most effective for depression, PTSD, anxiety. In the case of SK, she had all the resources at her disposal and yet she wrote a (IMO) woe-is-me article on lack of mental health support at her prep school. Coming from my perspective and the patient population that I work with, it does come across as self-indulgent. It also did not take into consideration of the fact that schools should be first and foremost be concerned with education. Schools being supportive of mental health can mean providing referral services, not publicizing mental health travails of individual students. To seemingly equate lack of publicizing of individual students' mental health issues with mental health being considered a taboo by schools, that is false equivalency IMO.

by Anonymousreply 102August 2, 2019 5:20 PM

Sad that you can't empathize with someone just because they come from a well-off background. Considering your whining about "the left" I feel bad for anyone who has to work with you. I doubt they are truly getting the help they need.

Depression is an illness and nothing to do with someone's socio-economic background.

by Anonymousreply 111August 2, 2019 6:19 PM

When I first read this, I assumed it was RFK Jrs. daughter, who is quite the headcase herself, or Max's daughter (the one that looks like a Cabbage Patch Doll) who got arrested for partying with her *Dad* at the compound a couple of years ago. So much crazy....

It's certainly sad for this young girl, but I think I remember reading that her mother suffered from depression & the father (where is he these days?) was an alcoholic, so clearly money not withstanding, this is a family with some very real mental health/addiction issues.

Still, if they only had one kid & likely lived in a very nice area, why send a kid with mental health issues to boarding school where you can't keep an eye on them? Send them to a private school near your home? Not that it's necessarily anyone's fault, but you wonder how much support she had in her life.

Tragic. Twenty-two year old should not die.

by Anonymousreply 113August 2, 2019 6:39 PM

R113, Neither should a 28 year old.

by Anonymousreply 114August 2, 2019 9:19 PM

Or 15 year olds

by Anonymousreply 115August 3, 2019 12:05 AM

We would both still be alive today if it weren't for the Kennedys.

by Anonymousreply 116August 3, 2019 12:11 AM

I just have to ask: WHY IS THIS NEWS?!

Nobody cares about The Kennedys anymore.

by Anonymousreply 117August 3, 2019 12:21 AM

Many of the 5th and 6th graders that I saw there were already smoking weed or doing other (much worse) types of drugs and having sex. Cutting was also a big thing there too.

Wow, thank you for your post R102; it was very informative. I can't even imagine what hell your life must be as a *kid* if you're drinking, drugging & cutting that early.

by Anonymousreply 118August 3, 2019 12:22 AM

How long until the Kennedys follow the Astors and Gettys into obscurity?

by Anonymousreply 119August 3, 2019 12:26 AM

[quote]We would both still be alive today if it weren't for the Kennedys.

So would I.

by Anonymousreply 120August 3, 2019 2:51 AM

I just read the Daily Mail latest article, many pictures of Saorise. She really was a lovely girl, much prettier than most of the other Kennedy women. Her mother, Courtney, looks terribly aged. I guess it's all that sun?

I always found that marriage of Courtney and Paul Hill interesting. To go from prison to marriage into America's royal family, imagine how thrilled his family must have been.

Their only child, what a tragedy.

by Anonymousreply 121August 3, 2019 3:14 AM

I still think about Mary Richardson. When she died, I took a couple of days off from work, and read everything I could find about her. I can't say why it affected me so. It was just so damned senseless and sad. I hate like hell that she gave up her whole life for that lizard.

by Anonymousreply 122August 3, 2019 3:15 AM

r117, the fact that this is news proves that people DO care. Go away, Republicans.

by Anonymousreply 123August 3, 2019 3:17 AM

Not to pile onto the Kennedys during another dark hour, but the sensational news articles re-capitulating the tragedies over the years keep leaving out the sad case of Pam Burkley, the poor young woman who was left paralyzed when the Jeep she was joyriding in with Joe, RFK Jr and David Kennedy flipped over in Hyannis back in the 70s. She had to sue Joe a few years back when he stopped paying her medical bills, she is wheelchair bound.

apologies for the 5-fer post at r128 etc. DL very glitchy lately.

I forgot RFK Jr. is married to Cheryl Hines, of all people.

by Anonymousreply 130August 3, 2019 3:24 AM

Didn't JD Vance write a book about these people?

by Anonymousreply 131August 3, 2019 4:06 AM

For R66

by Anonymousreply 132August 3, 2019 4:11 AM

Oops, sorry. For R66. There were nine children in the Kennedy family that gave us President John F. Kennedy ( assassinated in 1963). Robert Kennedy was his brother and his Attorney General and was assassinated in 1968 while running for president. The young Kennedy who just died was his granddaughter. Senator Ted Kennedy was another brother who served in the Senate until his death from cancer. The oldest brother in the family was killed in action during WWII.

Not only has the family had numerous tragedies unrelated to bad behavior, there are also instances of tragedies related to alcoholism and other unfortunate habits. John Kennedy JR, son of the president, and his wife were killed while John was piloting his private plane to a wedding at the compound where Saoirse was killed.

by Anonymousreply 134August 3, 2019 4:24 AM

Odd that Courtney had only one child, very unKennedy.

by Anonymousreply 135August 3, 2019 7:38 AM

Druggies overdose and die. It just comes with the territory.

by Anonymousreply 136August 3, 2019 9:56 AM

Agree, R112. S also wrote of sexual abuse.

Deliberate or accidetal, the death of such a young person is very sad.

by Anonymousreply 137August 3, 2019 12:36 PM

I thought David was one of the best looking Kennedy OD’s.

by Anonymousreply 138August 3, 2019 12:51 PM

Trying to start something, OP ?

It's always tragic when someone is so tormented that they feel they're a burden to the people who love them, and that they would be better off without them. Rarely does it ever occur to them that their family feels so much love for them, and would fight fiercely to keep them around.

by Anonymousreply 139August 3, 2019 12:58 PM

It could have been an accidental OD, R139.

by Anonymousreply 140August 3, 2019 1:37 PM

It could have been an accidental OD, [R139].

Possibly, but considering that they didn't wait for the toxicology report & identified it as a suicide almost from the get go makes you think this wasn't her first rodeo with trying to kill herself.

by Anonymousreply 141August 3, 2019 3:10 PM

Was it identified as a suicide r141? I hadn’t seen anything that said it was.

by Anonymousreply 142August 3, 2019 3:12 PM

Some article I read, probably daily mail, mentioned either an attempt or thoughts – that she was treated for it.

by Anonymousreply 143August 3, 2019 3:51 PM

Are any of the younger Kennedys president material or have they all degenerated into overprivileged trust fund druggies?

by Anonymousreply 144August 3, 2019 5:02 PM

How about this one, r144?

by Anonymousreply 145August 3, 2019 5:03 PM

This story was on the front page of the Telegraph today. I was surprised that even here in the UK, the death of a Kennedy is still considered news, given how politically irrelevant the family has been for years.

by Anonymousreply 146August 3, 2019 5:20 PM

R146, her father is also semi-famous over there so that might have something to do with it.

by Anonymousreply 147August 3, 2019 6:54 PM

When did Courtney and Hill divorce?

by Anonymousreply 148August 3, 2019 8:18 PM

2006, R148.

by Anonymousreply 149August 3, 2019 8:44 PM

I bet she was an opioid user and got hold of an unusually potent batch of fentanyl.

by Anonymousreply 150August 3, 2019 8:54 PM

I heard methadone was found. But it could have very well been tainted heroin.

by Anonymousreply 151August 3, 2019 8:55 PM

We Brits are fascinated by the Kennedys as much as you Americans over our Royal Family.

by Anonymousreply 152August 3, 2019 10:37 PM

by Anonymousreply 154August 3, 2019 11:30 PM

R152 We’ve always kind of secretly wanted a royal family, so yes, Camelot. Of course Jackie was very regal so that worked out.

by Anonymousreply 155August 4, 2019 12:21 AM

Unless she left a note, the impression I got from media coverage was OD. Lots of smack on Cape Cod and methadone was found. Maybe she was off it for a bit, then accidentally ODed when she went back to her prior dose. Or maybe it had Fent. It happens. Sad.

Ironic how even the most messed up youth of the elite are held forth as some sort of Oracles or Role Models to shape opinons of other young people. Maybe sort yourself and your family out before getting so wrapped up in virtue signalling? This kid was troubled for years and seems to have been kind of left to cope on her own. Shame to die so young.

Her body was returned via hearse to the Kennedy compound on Saturday, so they must be holding her wake there.

by Anonymousreply 158August 4, 2019 5:38 AM

"Maybe sort yourself and your family out before getting so wrapped up in virtue signalling?"

People who use the term virtue signalling are douche signalling. Go away, Trump voters.

by Anonymousreply 159August 4, 2019 3:37 PM

I'm not a Kennedy fan and all that Camelot bullshit is annoying.

I was around when Theodore White wrote that article and I have come to believe that Jackie made up the whole "evenings spent listening to the original cast album" tale. (She probably came to rue the day she did it after having to hear that bullshit for the rest of her life.) After all that has come out about JFK's sexual hi-jinks, it seems highly unlikely that he spent his evenings with the wife listening to records.

But, as far as this recent death, I find it sad and wasteful. I read the young woman's comments describing her return to school and her suggestions to help others in her situation. She sounds as if she was thoughtful and sincere.

And I second the question mentioned above as to why someone who was so troubled was shipped off to boarding school? Were her parents too busy living their own lives to take the time to be close for their only child.

Sad.

by Anonymousreply 160August 4, 2019 7:06 PM

She did regret it, r160. She didn’t want people to forget his sacrifice, but she didn’t foresee the country turning into a legend. She once said, “so now he is a legend, when he would rather have been a man.”

by Anonymousreply 161August 4, 2019 7:29 PM

^ turning him into a legend...

by Anonymousreply 162August 4, 2019 7:30 PM

Poor kid, so young. The stories are written as though it was suicide and as though it was an accidental OD, with the mentions of methadone and of her mother seeking a facility to treat the depression the girl still had. Until the tox screens are complete and I suppose even then, could be either. It reminds me that people who are struggling are often drawn to causes to fill the empty hole inside or to distract from a chaotic upbringing, which she was said to have experienced. The sexual abuse she referred to has a devestating impact as well. Very sad. If you can keep going, a bit of age really lends perspective and a sense of gratitude for survival.

by Anonymousreply 163August 4, 2019 7:38 PM

Have to say, despite their myriad flaws and (mostly) self-imposed troubles, these people know how to deliver touching and memorable eulogies to their loved ones. Perhaps because they've had so much practice.

RKF Jr is an ass with plenty of dislikability but his words today were moving.

There hasn't been a regal Kennedy since Jackie. They look like either leather chipmunks or bean bag chairs and most of 'em are so wasted they can't stand up straight.

Ummm r170, you are aware that Jackie married INTO the family, right?

She had no Kennedy genes.
