Which Kennedy Now?
"A medical emergency has been reported at the Kennedy compound in Hyannisport, officials said tonight."
And why? Is it normal to refer questions about an ambulance run to the DA's office?
"The Hyannis Fire Department confirmed to the Herald that paramedics responded to 28 Marchant Ave., one of the Kennedy compound homes on the six-acre property, at 2:32 p.m.
One person was transported to the hospital, said fire Captain Greg Dardia, adding that he couldn’t disclose the person’s gender and age. He also declined to say what happened.
Barnstable police referred questions to the Cape and Islands District Attorney’s Office. The DA’s Office did not immediately respond to comment."

I have friends who've lived in Hyannisport for years, they live a short distance from the compound. If the deceased is a Kennedy the Hyannis PD and authorities will absolutely shut down all information and leaks until the Kennedys decide what to release to the news media. They still have major control in that town and the PD are majorly in their back pockets (still).
If this person is a Kennedy they're lucky they died in H-port, since the news and other details will be tightly controlled by the family.

“Saoirse is the only child of Courtney Kennedy Hill. While at the boarding school Deerfield Academy, Hill wrote about her struggle with depression and mental health. She talks about a sexual assault from a friend that lead to a suicide attempt. When Hill returned for her senior year after treatment, she felt the lack of communication about her mental illness to be very strange and unsettling.
"Deerfield is one of the top educational institutions in the country, yet no one seems to know how to talk about mental illness. People talk about cancer freely; why is it so difficult to discuss the effects of depression, bi-polar, anxiety, or schizophrenic disorders?" wrote Hill in an article for The Deerfield Scroll. Thankfully, Hill used her difficulties with depression to reach out to others and create a more open environment to discuss mental illness.”

This death and the death of the alcoholic wife the Kennedy was gaslighting aren’t satisfying like the playing football with an empty vodka bottle on skis and flying at night without being instrument rated deaths. This is sad.
The article she wrote for the school paper is somehow even sadder. She constructively criticizes the school for not proactively managing her return after a year of psychiatric treatment. Where the fuck were her parents? They didn’t meet with her teachers and counselors? And she didn’t realize (or couldn’t face) that it was their job? Boo-fucking hoo. I'm sorry the young woman died from her own self-destructive behavior, but at some point you'd have to point out the self-indulgence too. I work part-time at a county psych clinic where disadvantaged people including the uninsured/ working poor come in for treatment; I currently have a few patients who are homeless and working part-time. I prescribe meds and get my patients referrals for psychotherapy if necessary but most of them are lucky to find a therapist within 6 months because the system is so clogged up. Many of them have PTSD on top of their core psych diagnoses because of background/ childhood of abuse and substance use. Most of them don't harp on their history as excuse to become mired in victimhood because they're too busy working, finding shelter over their heads, and trying to support themselves. Sorry, but it really grates on me to read about a poor little rich girl with all the money and connections to seek proper help, whinge about being a victim.
Ethel was known for being an abusive bitch to the hired help, she was both physically and verbally abusive to maids and other staff that she routinely tormented. Many of the Kennedys are shitty people and I don't understand why the mainstream media keep giving them passes and even in fact continue to celebrate them. Both JFK and RFK abused their powers and positions to fuck young female staff and volunteers, but yet they're still being held up as paragons of public service today. FFS Teddy killed a woman and failed to report the accident until much later, yet when he died he was hailed as a hero of the left. Today RFK Jr is an anti-vaxx activist, continuing the family tradition of jackassery.

She said she had friends who knew what she had been going through, but due to the HIPAA medical privacy law, nobody else knew. She didn't state what her school could have done to make things better for her (upon her return). The school did maintain her privacy. R94 Yes you're correct about the HIPAA laws being applicable even in schools. Also schools are not nor should they be in the business of mental health; that's why the schools provide referrals for students who require individual therapy that the schools aren't able to provide. When I completed my pediatrics psych hours, my preceptor was a clinical psychologist who rotated between 6 schools in the district, and we did almost exclusively group therapy with elementary school kids. Aside from referrals for individual therapy, we also did a lot of intake assessments mostly involving so-called troubled kids who invariably dealt with some serious shit at home. Many of the 5th and 6th graders that I saw there were already smoking weed or doing other (much worse) types of drugs and having sex. Cutting was also a big thing there too. But yeah, complaining that schools aren't openly supportive of individual students and their possible behavioral/ emotional problems is walking a fine line. I suspect we'd be seeing lawsuits from those children's parents who'd see it as opportunities to make money from privacy laws.

R98 I balance empathy with a realistic approach, it's the only way to help people who are dealing with chronic, serious mental illnesses while trying to work and live their lives. I emphasize illnesses because the patients with such a profile (substance abuse, sexual/ physical abuse, underlying diagnoses such as depression etc...) at some point need to realize that there is no magic pill to alleviate all their symptoms. What we know is that many of these patients have low tolerance for stress and this can lead to further catastrophizing of everyday/ life milestone stressors. We're not going to help by coddling or giving more meds or increasing doses to maximum levels, these approaches do them no good. As a clinician, I'm going to help them be at a level where they can be functional and learn to help themselves cope with/ process past traumatic events and current stressors. That is best done with individual therapy which unfortunately is impacted significantly with demand overwhelming resources. Treatment with individual psychotherapy along with meds is the most effective for depression, PTSD, anxiety. In the case of SK, she had all the resources at her disposal and yet she wrote a (IMO) woe-is-me article on lack of mental health support at her prep school. Coming from my perspective and the patient population that I work with, it does come across as self-indulgent. It also did not take into consideration of the fact that schools should be first and foremost be concerned with education. Schools being supportive of mental health can mean providing referral services, not publicizing mental health travails of individual students. To seemingly equate lack of publicizing of individual students' mental health issues with mental health being considered a taboo by schools, that is false equivalency IMO.

It's certainly sad for this young girl, but I think I remember reading that her mother suffered from depression & the father (where is he these days?) was an alcoholic, so clearly money not withstanding, this is a family with some very real mental health/addiction issues.
Still, if they only had one kid & likely lived in a very nice area, why send a kid with mental health issues to boarding school where you can't keep an eye on them? Send them to a private school near your home? Not that it's necessarily anyone's fault, but you wonder how much support she had in her life.

Many of the 5th and 6th graders that I saw there were already smoking weed or doing other (much worse) types of drugs and having sex. Cutting was also a big thing there too.
Wow, thank you for your post R102; it was very informative. I can't even imagine what hell your life must be as a *kid* if you're drinking, drugging & cutting that early.

I just read the Daily Mail latest article, many pictures of Saorise. She really was a lovely girl, much prettier than most of the other Kennedy women. Her mother, Courtney, looks terribly aged. I guess it's all that sun?
I always found that marriage of Courtney and Paul Hill interesting. To go from prison to marriage into America's royal family, imagine how thrilled his family must have been.
Their only child, what a tragedy.

I still think about Mary Richardson. When she died, I took a couple of days off from work, and read everything I could find about her. I can't say why it affected me so. It was just so damned senseless and sad. I hate like hell that she gave up her whole life for that lizard.

Not to pile onto the Kennedys during another dark hour, but the sensational news articles re-capitulating the tragedies over the years keep leaving out the sad case of Pam Burkley, the poor young woman who was left paralyzed when the Jeep she was joyriding in with Joe, RFK Jr and David Kennedy flipped over in Hyannis back in the 70s. She had to sue Joe a few years back when he stopped paying her medical bills, she is wheelchair bound.

Oops, sorry. For R66. There were nine children in the Kennedy family that gave us President John F. Kennedy ( assassinated in 1963). Robert Kennedy was his brother and his Attorney General and was assassinated in 1968 while running for president. The young Kennedy who just died was his granddaughter. Senator Ted Kennedy was another brother who served in the Senate until his death from cancer. The oldest brother in the family was killed in action during WWII.
Not only has the family had numerous tragedies unrelated to bad behavior, there are also instances of tragedies related to alcoholism and other unfortunate habits. John Kennedy JR, son of the president, and his wife were killed while John was piloting his private plane to a wedding at the compound where Saoirse was killed.

Trying to start something, OP ?
It's always tragic when someone is so tormented that they feel they're a burden to the people who love them, and that they would be better off without them. Rarely does it ever occur to them that their family feels so much love for them, and would fight fiercely to keep them around.

Unless she left a note, the impression I got from media coverage was OD. Lots of smack on Cape Cod and methadone was found. Maybe she was off it for a bit, then accidentally ODed when she went back to her prior dose. Or maybe it had Fent. It happens. Sad.
Ironic how even the most messed up youth of the elite are held forth as some sort of Oracles or Role Models to shape opinons of other young people. Maybe sort yourself and your family out before getting so wrapped up in virtue signalling? This kid was troubled for years and seems to have been kind of left to cope on her own. Shame to die so young.

I'm not a Kennedy fan and all that Camelot bullshit is annoying.
I was around when Theodore White wrote that article and I have come to believe that Jackie made up the whole "evenings spent listening to the original cast album" tale. (She probably came to rue the day she did it after having to hear that bullshit for the rest of her life.) After all that has come out about JFK's sexual hi-jinks, it seems highly unlikely that he spent his evenings with the wife listening to records.
But, as far as this recent death, I find it sad and wasteful. I read the young woman's comments describing her return to school and her suggestions to help others in her situation. She sounds as if she was thoughtful and sincere.
And I second the question mentioned above as to why someone who was so troubled was shipped off to boarding school? Were her parents too busy living their own lives to take the time to be close for their only child.
Sad.

She did regret it, r160. She didn’t want people to forget his sacrifice, but she didn’t foresee the country turning into a legend. She once said, “so now he is a legend, when he would rather have been a man.”

Poor kid, so young. The stories are written as though it was suicide and as though it was an accidental OD, with the mentions of methadone and of her mother seeking a facility to treat the depression the girl still had. Until the tox screens are complete and I suppose even then, could be either. It reminds me that people who are struggling are often drawn to causes to fill the empty hole inside or to distract from a chaotic upbringing, which she was said to have experienced. The sexual abuse she referred to has a devestating impact as well. Very sad. If you can keep going, a bit of age really lends perspective and a sense of gratitude for survival.

Have to say, despite their myriad flaws and (mostly) self-imposed troubles, these people know how to deliver touching and memorable eulogies to their loved ones. Perhaps because they've had so much practice.
RKF Jr is an ass with plenty of dislikability but his words today were moving.
