Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth Warren

Are they too extreme to get the votes that matter - undecideds, moderates, never and previous Trumpers?

by Anonymousreply 29September 21, 2019 1:39 PM

No, they aren't. Their positions are mainstream with voters. As often, the definition of "moderate" does not take as reference the opinions of average voters but those of pundits and and mainstream media personalities who climb the ranks of their profession by taking the side of the powerful against the interests of the majority.

Actual moderate here...yes, they're too extreme for me.

by Anonymousreply 2July 31, 2019 1:26 PM

yep.

by Anonymousreply 3July 31, 2019 1:26 PM

Good point. R1!

by Anonymousreply 4July 31, 2019 1:28 PM

r2 = transparent Republican.

by Anonymousreply 5July 31, 2019 1:29 PM

Also, it's WAY past time to shove the pendulum to the extreme left, for a freaking change.

by Anonymousreply 6July 31, 2019 1:30 PM

R1, the room was packed with Sanders supporters and not moderates.

Anyone who doesn't buy into Sanders and Warren is a Trumpkin.

by Anonymousreply 8July 31, 2019 1:40 PM

I would vote for James Carville.

by Anonymousreply 9July 31, 2019 1:42 PM

I'm not going to lie, I have never understood why Bernie appeals to so many young voters. I guess I tune out his message because I don't understand why democrats allow him to run in our primary. Elizabeth Warren is smart and would make a great president, I just don't believe she is electable in swing states and with independents.

Many people tend to vote with their wallets. Democrats need to package their programs in a way that doesn't make it sound like people are going to be taking less home in their paychecks. Free college for all and increasing home ownership sounds great, but some people at home are asking how are we going to pay for this.

by Anonymousreply 10July 31, 2019 1:43 PM

r7 No, it wasn't. They were normal white working class. Do you honestly think Fox News would do that - pack a room with people who will applaud [bold]SOCIALISM!!![/bold] and then intentionally ask them questions where they will vocally demonstrate such support?

Don't take for granted what Politico says, the people in that publication have an axe to grind against Sanders and will take every opportunity to make little of his feats.

Yes, r11, I do. And I'd take Politico over Daily Kos anyday. The audience came from various party clubs in the area, it absolutely wasn't a Republican or moderate only event.

by Anonymousreply 12July 31, 2019 1:51 PM

I was with Warren until she revealed her trade policy. That shit is crazy.

by Anonymousreply 13July 31, 2019 1:53 PM

Daily Kos is an extreme left publication with a mixed history of factual reporting.

Oh please. Politico is just bottom-feeding rag with extensive record of making stuff up (see below for an example). And they do have an ideological axe to grind against the left. As for Daily Kos, that website is under the direction of vocal Bernie haters such as Markos Moulitsas and Armando. Politico's article on Bernie's income was slammed as anti-semitic also by some in the Jewish press who dislike Bernie.

Here's a Jewish writer discussing Politico's attack on Bernie.

Fox News didn't pack the Sanders town hall with supporters and, if it had done so, the host wouldn't have asked the audience what they think of single-payer. Why would Fox promote such a [bold]"RADICAL LEFTY!!!"[/bold] position like that? Politico invented that fact in order to shrug off the positive reception Bernie enjoyed from the audience. In fact, other articles commenting on the town noted with surprise how meek was the reaction to some other points Bernie made, eg on the bloated military budget. And the surprise was due precisely to the fact that those people were not Bernie supporters, at least they were not up to that point.

by Anonymousreply 17July 31, 2019 2:05 PM

Since you seem to have issue with Politico...here's another publication with local reporting.

BY the way...Bernie is cheap and I didn't think it was a huge secret. His tax returns for 2015 -- when he FINALLY released them -- showed almost nothing was donated to charity.

"some were foes"

That doesn't remotely look like what Politico said. It actually confirmed Politico lied to hurt Sanders, as usual.

Charity is just feel-good ritual that that the ultra-rich have come up with to publicly legitimize their hoarding of the national wealth, and score some tax cuts while at it. It has NO EFFECT whatsoever on poverty. Bernie wants higher takes on the rich, including himself. He's far from cheap.

And something like that would never have been said of a centrist, right-wing, or Israel-loving Jew. Left-wing Jews are fair play for such innuendo, though.

by Anonymousreply 19July 31, 2019 2:14 PM

And a lot of them came from Philly too...face it r19, using the Fox Town Hall audience to gauge how moderates feel about Bernie wasn't a good measure no matter how much you want to stamp your feet over it.

Gosh, there's only two choices: Trump or a Democrat.

Why do I never hear that the economic recovery started before Trump even decided to run for POTUS? And that- if anything- he is damaging what Obama saved?

No, we just keep hearing slavery reparations, healthcare (which everyone watching that debate already has) and get out of college free promises?

Trump is not going to debate anyone (except on Twitter) so they need to slam his failures, ineptness, racism and lies.

by Anonymousreply 21July 31, 2019 3:34 PM

Warren and Sanders' platforms are actually in the center-right spectrum in Europe and even conservative in the UK. America is such a backward and obese country.

by Anonymousreply 22July 31, 2019 4:10 PM

NO.

Now shut the fuck up, OP. You’re about to be redtagged for a being a worry troll.

BLOCKED.

by Anonymousreply 23July 31, 2019 5:10 PM

They aren't too extreme. Republicans have upped their game (albeit in a negative way), and Dems need to do the same. The time has come for implementing some assertive policies by the Democrats.

by Anonymousreply 24July 31, 2019 5:14 PM

R21 is right. There's no way in hell that Trump is going to debate anyone, so - along with exposing evidence of crimes and dishonesty through an impeachment inquiry - Democrats need to focus on his failures, racism, and lies.

by Anonymousreply 25July 31, 2019 5:17 PM

I support both Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth Warren. I have donated money to both campaigns and to Mayor Pete and Amy McGrath in Kentucky.

Sobering article about Don The Con.

Russian/Right-wing Trolls

Are they too stupid and obvious to influence the votes that matter - undecideds, moderates, never and previous Trumpers?

by Anonymousreply 28September 21, 2019 1:29 PM

Harry Enten:

I don't think Biden will be the nominee (the field on the Dem side clearly has a better shot), but I'm not sure folks appreciate how unusual Biden holding a 10+ pt lead on Trump is at this point. No incumbent since at least WWII was down by anything close to that at this point.

And Biden's taken a lot guff from a lot of folks. This ain't about him having some sort of "i'm not in politics anymore" glow... He's polling 8-10 pts better than Clinton was against Trump at this point in the cycle.
