Bernie Madoff - I interned at the SEC and scratched around a bit but nobody took me seriously as I was young. Also the SEC was corrupt. Then I actively lobbied at Espírito Santo and Barclays to keep a wide berth.

Obama. In 2008, he claimed that he would crack down on outsourcing. After he became president, he traveled to India and told them he would do nothing to hinder the inflow of Indian IT resources to replace American workers. Needless to say, that made me hate him as much as is humanly possible.

It’s a complicated issue. I hate the H1B visa workers. My commuter rail station looks like little Bombay at rush hour. But suppose the US limits these visas to a tiny number. What might happen, is that more companies might relocate to India. Instead of some of the jobs, we might lose all of these jobs. I have no idea, but it’s possible. I trust Obama’s judgement.

Now that shit is getting real for Trump, I'm seeing a lot of "Obama was awful and Hillary is evil" all over social media, even though neither are politicians or hold office. Sketchy.

by Anonymousreply 62July 31, 2019 2:47 AM

Obama upended everything in 2008. He wasted 2 years of the Democrat's super majority. He didn't campaign hard enough for the Obamacare as people didn't understand shit about it and hated it back then. And you can see now when people comprehended it more, they embraced the Obamacare wholeheartedly. Intelligence people had been warning him about the Russian meddling with the 2016 election for some time, and he did almost nothing to stomp it out because he wanted to stay above politics, and didn't want to favor his own party in the election. Well he was stupid and weak then since it was not about the Democrat Party only, it's about the whole country under attack by a foreign enemy.

He was a weak-willed, wrong-headed president who helped destroyed the Democrat Party. And even now he and his wife still use those stupid "veiled" shades against Trump when he could have come out swinging this disgusting president with full force already. Go count your hundreds of millions of dollars and stay away, both of you.

The Kennedys.

I bought the whole story from 1960 on. All of it.

I even bought Teddy's whole story about Chappaquiddick, including the neck brace. (Although, I admit that I did have a brief questioning moment when during his speech, he said he wondered if there really was a curse on his family, because, I thought, really, a young woman - not from his family - was DEAD.)

Yes, I bought the whole thing for years.

When I finally wised up, I was left with a deep, deep hostility to the whole bunch of them. Every last one.

I hate being lied to.

So much ranting and raving, and little else.

I think the hate Obama is getting is a tad unfair. It was GWB and the R's who put our country into a shitty position. He had so much to deal with, those first two yearswith the economy. He and Michelle are a class act.

It's Racism that brought us Trump.

by Anonymousreply 73July 31, 2019 4:03 AM

Obama couldn’t do more without being accused of being an “angry Black man”. He had a very narrow path to walk.

He couldn’t campaign harder for the ACA because that made it less popular.

As for the Russians, he expelled ~30 diplomats; closed two Russian safe houses/vacation homes; put sanctions on many oligarchs; and added that there would be more at a time and place of our choosing, some covert, and some not.

In the alternative, he risked being accused BY TRUMP of acting wrong,y, and you know Trump would have done so, if he could.

I think Obama did a good job. Just compare his action to his successor’s!

McCain would have been a disaster. He liked to “roll the dice”. Remember when he “suspended” his campaign, yet had nothing to add to the solution? Then he picked Sarah Palin, with a second choice of his friend Joe Lieberman. Disaster. We’d still be underwater with him or Romney. Republican philosophy was wrong for the time. Obama was what we needed. Hillary would have been good, too.

The Clintons were furious that Obama nudged out Hillary for the nomination in 2008. They were vengeful against politicians who supported Barack and during the next 8 years, Bill campaigned against those people who saw as guilty of that betrayal.

Also, supposedly the Clintons made it their business to eliminate others who might possibly be a candidate in 2016 - finding them other opportunities, etc.. They were taking no chances that Hillary would not get the nomination.

Didn't I read where Biden made some comment about the Clinton machine when asked why he didn't challenge her for the nomination?

It is no accident that only Hillary seemed to be the most likely 2016 candidate.

But no, nobody went to jail and there were so many non-prosecution agreements granted to those perpetrators. Simply deplorable.
