I guess Plump never ignored his kids in the strict sense - I think he just doesn't care that much about them unless it's a family gathering like Christmas or New Year's Eve at Mar-a-Lardo or a photo op (and in Trump's world, family gatherings are very often nothing but photo ops). Who knows, he might even be rather fond of his grandchildren, thinking (and expecting) them to be less of a disappointment than, say, Donnie Jr and Eric.
