too openly gay for Tommy?
Kelly McGillis isn't in the new Top Gun sequel
by Anonymous | reply 117 | August 7, 2019 4:12 AM |
Too old, OP. Way too old.
by Anonymous | reply 1 | July 23, 2019 2:56 AM |
same age is Tom.
by Anonymous | reply 2 | July 23, 2019 2:57 AM |
Yeah but he looks better, R2. Have you seen a recent pic of her? Not a pretty sight.
by Anonymous | reply 3 | July 23, 2019 3:01 AM |
somebody link that clip of Quentin Tarantino explaining how Top Gun is about a man struggling with his homosexuality.
by Anonymous | reply 4 | July 23, 2019 3:03 AM |
Too old to be a love interest.
by Anonymous | reply 5 | July 23, 2019 3:13 AM |
It's a mans world. Tom isn't too old then Kelly shouldn't be either.
by Anonymous | reply 6 | July 23, 2019 3:21 AM |
Kelly looks like shit. Tom Cruise still looks hot. That's the difference.
by Anonymous | reply 7 | July 23, 2019 3:25 AM |
Kelly is five years older than Tom. But, yeah she has aged badly. She had addiction issues for many years. She got clean and started working as a drug counselor at rehab center for several years.
by Anonymous | reply 8 | July 23, 2019 3:26 AM |
Poor Kelly was never asked. Shame on Tom! With his power, he could've got her hired so that audiences could see this hot couple rekindle their romance.

Too openly ugly.
by Anonymous | reply 13 | July 26, 2019 9:57 PM |
She shoulda been cast — post-Don't Ask stunt casting.
by Anonymous | reply 14 | July 26, 2019 9:59 PM |
Oh please, Tom's leading ladies are always under thirty and stunning.
He is in massive denial about his age, and he wouldn't be making this stupid movie if he weren't - there are no 57-year-old fighter pilots! No, it's a young man's profession, by the late fifties pilots are either in the military brass, commercial aviation, or dead.
by Anonymous | reply 15 | July 26, 2019 10:06 PM |
How did they justify including half-dead Val Kilmer in this then? What role does Iceman play here, does he die or something?
by Anonymous | reply 16 | July 26, 2019 10:35 PM |
R16 I don't think he'll be in the movie that long.
by Anonymous | reply 17 | July 26, 2019 10:53 PM |
She was beautiful in Witness -- stunning really. The scene where Harrison Ford sees her as she bares her breasts was not sexual as much as it was about exposing her vulnerability and their mutual desire.
In Top Gun, her character seemed more like a forced plot device. The real romance was between Maverick and Goose.
by Anonymous | reply 18 | July 26, 2019 10:56 PM |
Take My Breath Away for the wrong reasons.
by Anonymous | reply 19 | July 26, 2019 11:25 PM |
She didn’t age in Sharon Stone years. If she still looked decent he would have included her, perhaps not as a love interest, but given her a cameo.
by Anonymous | reply 20 | July 26, 2019 11:35 PM |
Was she taking any medication? I am always baffled when beautiful women let themselves go. Kelly LeBrock let herself go too.
by Anonymous | reply 21 | July 26, 2019 11:43 PM |
She has aged badly, or at least non-Hollywood-ly. But I can't imagine even a well-preserved 62-year-old woman as a love interest in a movie like this. That doesn't happen.
Well, I can think of one example of something similar, when Indiana Jones married fifty-something Marion/Karen Allen in the last movie. But that's it.
by Anonymous | reply 22 | July 27, 2019 12:01 AM |
What r15 said. Tom is never going to accept the fact that he's any older than 35-ish. A military fighter pilot in his late 50s is absolutely ludicrous.
by Anonymous | reply 23 | July 27, 2019 12:05 AM |
So is hanging on the wing of a flying plane R23, but Tom did in one of his movies.
by Anonymous | reply 24 | July 27, 2019 12:12 AM |
The grim reaper Val kilmer's in it. Explain that to me. Why not her? The fact is they're all old. I don't care how much Botox Tom Cruise gets he's freaking old. It's a movie we didn't ask for.
by Anonymous | reply 25 | July 27, 2019 12:30 AM |
R21 McGillis was a heavy drinker and drug user for years. She has said part of the reason she turned to substance abuse to cope with the trauma of her rape that took place in the early 80s.
by Anonymous | reply 26 | July 27, 2019 2:45 AM |
Colleen Camp also went through a shocking transformation. In Colleen's case it was during a relatively short time.
by Anonymous | reply 27 | July 27, 2019 3:12 AM |
Tom gets older, but his leading ladies stay the same age.
by Anonymous | reply 28 | July 27, 2019 3:16 AM |
Odd how Cruise has completely given up doing stuff like Born on the Fourth of July or Magnolia. It's just action stuff. Mission Impossible 8, can you believe?
by Anonymous | reply 29 | July 27, 2019 3:17 AM |
The work Tom's had done is getting a bit too obvious. If he keeps it up, he'll be in Burt Reynolds territory before long.
r29 my theory is that Cruise finally realized that he would never win an Oscar and just said "fuck it." he went for sure-fire crowd-pleasers to stay popular and rake in the $$$.
I'm not a big Cruise fan, but I have to admit the Mission Impossible movies are a lot of fun. The last one with Cavill was very entertaining.
by Anonymous | reply 30 | July 27, 2019 3:19 AM |
Given how frequently she appeared nude in her films, even full frontal, I wouldn't be surprised if she would get naked again even now.
by Anonymous | reply 32 | July 27, 2019 3:26 AM |
She now looks like a Gender Studies professor at UMASS Amherst.
by Anonymous | reply 34 | July 27, 2019 3:27 AM |
Their pairing looks weird even in this not so recent photo. Today it would just be sad.
by Anonymous | reply 36 | July 27, 2019 3:32 AM |
I've gained weight (30 pounds) after quitting smoking. Surprisingly my Dr. says I am at the right weight now. I feel miserable with the added weight and it is a little bit depressing to me. Because she was hot when she was younger I wish she had taking care of herself, but if she is happy that is what really matters.
by Anonymous | reply 37 | July 27, 2019 3:40 AM |
"Well, I can think of one example of something similar, when Indiana Jones married fifty-something Marion/Karen Allen in the last movie. "
It wouldn't have happened if she actually looked fifty!
She looked great, and about half Indy's age.

Will Anthony Edwards appear as the late great Goose in a dream sequence?
by Anonymous | reply 39 | July 27, 2019 4:13 AM |
I never thought she was attractive, though. She was Just looks worse now.

Meg Ryan wasn't asked back either. (and yes she was in the original.)
by Anonymous | reply 41 | July 27, 2019 4:19 AM |
She looks like his mother in R36 picture.

by Anonymous | reply 44 | July 28, 2019 5:40 AM |
oh dear r9 she has really let herself go
by Anonymous | reply 45 | July 28, 2019 6:26 AM |
LMAO r31 where did you dig that up? I dare not click on it.
by Anonymous | reply 46 | July 28, 2019 6:28 AM |
They could have taken her to the Hair Cuttery and fixed herself up a little bit and then put her in the damn movie.
by Anonymous | reply 47 | July 28, 2019 3:40 PM |
The thing is, Tom has taken good care of himself and stays in shape, the rest of the original cast haven’t.
by Anonymous | reply 48 | July 28, 2019 3:44 PM |
I had a girlfriend that was hot like Kelly. Saw her a few years after we had broken up and she had gained a lot of weight. I was surprised she had let herself go because she sure liked the attention she would get.
by Anonymous | reply 49 | July 28, 2019 5:06 PM |
She can still take his breath away— by sitting on him.
by Anonymous | reply 50 | July 28, 2019 5:57 PM |

by Anonymous | reply 51 | July 29, 2019 2:13 AM |

by Anonymous | reply 54 | July 29, 2019 3:26 AM |
No, Meg Ryan isn't in it.
by Anonymous | reply 55 | July 29, 2019 3:28 AM |
r55 So another woman who aged out of Hollywood basically.
by Anonymous | reply 56 | July 29, 2019 3:30 AM |
TC looks exceptional compared to the others.
by Anonymous | reply 57 | July 29, 2019 3:34 AM |
TC went to that plastic surgeon (forget his name) who has his own island somewhere in South America. He does a lot of VVIPs and he's VERY discreet.
by Anonymous | reply 58 | July 29, 2019 3:36 AM |
How about Barry Tubb, who allegedly used to fuck Kelly McGillis in real life? Was he asked back?
by Anonymous | reply 59 | July 29, 2019 5:54 AM |
no. I think only Val Kilmer is back from the first film.
Tubb was a cutey back in the day. Kind of a gay icon from that Marlo Thomas TV movie Consenting Adult. Early crush of mine. You'd have thought he'd have a better career.
by Anonymous | reply 60 | July 29, 2019 5:59 AM |
I am surprised that Meg Ryan isn't doing a cameo at least since she would have been playing the mother of Miles Teller's character.
I guess her bad plastic surgery wouldn't look good since in super hi-def.
by Anonymous | reply 61 | July 29, 2019 6:31 AM |
[quote] Poor Kelly was never asked. Shame on Tom!
For reasons that are well known to her.
by Anonymous | reply 62 | July 29, 2019 6:44 AM |
She's an overweight dyke. That's why she's not in the movie.
by Anonymous | reply 63 | July 29, 2019 6:49 AM |
The young Tubb and the young McGillis looked like they could be siblings.
by Anonymous | reply 65 | July 29, 2019 8:32 AM |
Id rather see them team up again for a remake of The Accused but with Tammy playing Jodie Foster's role.
by Anonymous | reply 66 | July 29, 2019 8:39 AM |
They had zero chemistry in the original film anyway. It’s unlikely Maverick would even remember her. “Oh yeah...you were that chick I was trying to get with when Goose died.” About the size of it.
Apparently, the Take My Breath Away/love scene was a reshoot after preview audiences expressed confusion about their relationship. If you look closely, she’s standing in a ditch and he has his Color of Money hair - covered with a towel around his neck. She wears the jacket because of weight gain or something. The whole thing is bathed in blue light to try and hide these inconsistencies.
Plus, what are they going to do? Play Take My Breath Away as a 62 year-old woman is wheeled into view? There probably aren’t any women in it. Can’t believe charisma free Miles Teller is in it. Good grief.
by Anonymous | reply 67 | July 29, 2019 9:11 AM |
Can't have her getting in the way of all the homoerotica.
by Anonymous | reply 68 | July 29, 2019 9:59 AM |
That’s my job this time!
by Anonymous | reply 69 | July 29, 2019 11:03 AM |
There's no place for an old grey haired lesbian in the TG sequel.
by Anonymous | reply 70 | July 29, 2019 11:21 AM |
She could’ve at least played her original character’s fat momma.
by Anonymous | reply 71 | July 29, 2019 11:39 AM |
Tom has been heavily surgically altered, and he's a clam..Why the fuck should anyone give this Scientologist moron (who is held/holds himself up to be god) their money to see his shitty films?! Let that fucker jump the dhak a d fade into obscurity. He can be the real-life male version of Norma Desmond!
by Anonymous | reply 72 | July 29, 2019 11:47 AM |
"But I can't imagine even a well-preserved 62-year-old woman as a love interest in a movie like this. That doesn't happen."
I know Hollywood can be cruel, especially for older women. But I was surpised it was such a big deal when Kim Catrall turned down the role as Samantha in the SATC sequel movie. A 60 years old sex hungry grandma was not really something I wanted to see anyway. She was already too old for that role in the first movie.
by Anonymous | reply 73 | July 29, 2019 12:00 PM |
The picture of McGillis used in this thread is highly unflattering. She's gained weight recently but looks a lot better in Maternal Secrets from 2018 than she does in that Radar Online "shocking after photos" article.
For someone who battled addictions, health problems and even got attacked in her own home recently, I think looks fine. She hasn't had the kind of career where she needs to keep going under the knife like Tom Cruise has.
by Anonymous | reply 74 | July 29, 2019 12:00 PM |
Does she have any career left?
by Anonymous | reply 75 | July 29, 2019 2:59 PM |
I remember having a major crush on Barry Tubb, when I first saw him in “TopGun” and thought he was going to be a major star like Tom Cruise. I think he still works in movies and films, but loved him in Consenting Adults.
by Anonymous | reply 76 | July 29, 2019 3:26 PM |
Excuse me, meant “TV shows and films”.
by Anonymous | reply 77 | July 29, 2019 3:31 PM |
She WILL be in it. They are going to reprise the "Take My Breath Away" scene but instead of having him drive her away in a motorcycle, she will drive him away in a motorized mobility scooter.
by Anonymous | reply 79 | July 29, 2019 3:40 PM |
Damn, she looks like Shelley Winters now.
by Anonymous | reply 80 | July 29, 2019 3:43 PM |
They could have recast Kelly's part with Michelle Pfeiffer. But, oh Tom prefers younger women playing his love interests.
by Anonymous | reply 81 | July 29, 2019 4:18 PM |
"One-third his age plus seven" is Tom's rule of thumb.
by Anonymous | reply 82 | July 29, 2019 4:23 PM |
Jennifer Connelly is close to Tom's age.
by Anonymous | reply 83 | July 29, 2019 5:00 PM |
Barry Tubb was naked a lot in the long-forgotten Warm Summer Rain with Kelly Lynch. I'd prefer to remember that than contemplate a pointless Top Gun sequel.
by Anonymous | reply 84 | July 29, 2019 6:55 PM |
[quote] She was quite stunning at one time.
Oh she's still stunning.... ly ugly, anyway. Kelly's looked at life from both sides now, from pretty to fug, and still somehow, she can't get a job and has disappeared. Kelly really doesn't look good, at all.
by Anonymous | reply 85 | July 29, 2019 7:36 PM |
Maybe next he will make a sequel to Risky Business. Grown up Joel has to save his tech company by reuniting with Lana and engaging in one night of human trafficking that satisfies the sexual needs of his middle aged white male billionaire friends.
(Seriously, Risky Business is one of those Gen X male teen fantasy movies that is so full of misogyny and racism and that there is no way it could not be remade in the 21st Century.)
by Anonymous | reply 86 | July 29, 2019 7:39 PM |
Tom Cruise homoerotic scene in Top Gun - he's the one with his ass to the camera.
by Anonymous | reply 87 | July 29, 2019 7:47 PM |
According to Datalounge, that scene is absolutely NOT homoerotic, r87, because all the characters in it are heterosexual characters.
by Anonymous | reply 88 | July 29, 2019 7:52 PM |

I thought Barry looked hot with the cowboy hat in Top Gun. Loved the scene where he tells Hollywood, “I’m getting a hardon”.
by Anonymous | reply 89 | July 29, 2019 11:00 PM |
According to Tony Scott, he wasn’t trying to make a homoerotic film, he just wanted to attract more female audiences to view Top Gun.
by Anonymous | reply 90 | July 30, 2019 12:04 AM |
This sequel should have been made at least 15 years ago.
by Anonymous | reply 91 | July 30, 2019 2:01 AM |
Yeah, they waited WAY too long to make this sequel.
by Anonymous | reply 92 | July 30, 2019 2:19 AM |
I thought the same thing, but 15 years ago Cruise still had a career and a good public image. Has he been in a sucessful movie besides Mission Impossible lately? He probably needs the money and brand recognition now.
by Anonymous | reply 93 | July 30, 2019 7:09 AM |
She's getting jobs, just look at the IMDb, genius.
Pointless bitchery, I know, I know, but making shit up and bitching about THAT is less than useless.
by Anonymous | reply 94 | July 30, 2019 7:21 AM |
It would never work, Kelly is much butcher than Tammy.
by Anonymous | reply 95 | July 30, 2019 8:52 AM |
I'm not sure 2 TV movies in the last 3 years is a red-hot career.
by Anonymous | reply 96 | July 30, 2019 9:33 AM |
I guess some of you aren't familiar with later-in-life lesbians. When they finally come out of the closet, many of them go FULL-ON BULLDYKE in five minutes.

R86, I don't remember Risky Business being racist. I mean, he does turn down the black trans hooker when she knocks on his door. I guess that'd be called "literal violence" these days since he prevented a perfectly capable trans woman of color from doing her job. He could have at least sent her a donation through her PayPal for all the trauma she suffers on a day to day basis.
I'd actually like to see Rebecca DeMornay make a big comeback. Last time I saw her on screen, she was still stunningly beautiful.
by Anonymous | reply 100 | July 30, 2019 5:03 PM |
The leading lady in the sequel, Jennifer Connelly is 48, so at least she's someone age appropriate. At least they didn't hire a 20 something or young 30-something for the role.
It would have been nice if they could have at least offered her a cameo. In these long-awaited sequels, people expect Easter Eggs. You don't have to make her a love interest, but put her in one of those scenes that is destined to become trivia. Make it funny, even.
by Anonymous | reply 101 | July 30, 2019 5:10 PM |
Tom has no sense of humor that I can see.
by Anonymous | reply 102 | July 30, 2019 5:14 PM |
They could have made Kelly some important hotshot in the sequel, instead of a love interest. Kelly could have easily lost weight, and have a makeup and hairstylist make her look decent.
by Anonymous | reply 104 | July 30, 2019 6:30 PM |
[quote] I'd actually like to see Rebecca DeMornay make a big comeback. Last time I saw her on screen, she was still stunningly beautiful.
The last time I saw her was in Jessica Jones and I did not recognize her.
To be fair there are red carpet photos of her attending the premiere of JJ and she looked much better than on the show.
by Anonymous | reply 105 | July 30, 2019 6:33 PM |
She says she didn't get the part because she looks age appropriate. The irony being that she was older than Cruise when cast in Top Gun. I also think there are plenty of actors close to her age who look much better than she does now.

What did Kelly learn? There isn't much work for overweight lesbians?
by Anonymous | reply 112 | July 31, 2019 3:02 PM |
There isn't much work for women over 40 in Hollywood. Producers hire a 30-something women to play the love interest of 60-year old men. If you're 60, you might get cast as the mother of a 55-year-old man. (Because the producers don't want to hire an 80-year old to play the mother.)
Hollywood doesn't want to make movies starring women over 50. It only happens if an actress likes the script and has clout (Streep/Close/McDormand) , and then it will probably be an indie production.
by Anonymous | reply 113 | July 31, 2019 3:29 PM |
