Sink. It’s more sociable and less dangerous than a stovetop.
It has to be a full-sized sink with a disposal. Those dinky sinks are useless.

I prefer the stove and overhead vent up against the wall than on and above an island. So, island sink if I had to make a choice.

It’s more sociable because when I’m standing at the island, I can chat with my partner while I chop vegetables and do dinner prep instead of facing the wall.

I know someone who had a stovetop on their island and it was terrible. Grease and everything else splattered all over. At least if the stove is against the wall, the grease splatters onto the backsplash and you can wipe it down. On an island it splashes all over the counter, the barstools and the floor on the other side of the island
