How embarrassing.
Seth MacFarlane's shit show The Orville demoted to Hulu for season 3

The showrunners did this to themselves when they told Fox the new season would come later than expected. I wonder if the viewership will suffer because of this, and by how much. I don't watch it, but I'm still curious.

Per the cited article, The experts at Hollywood Reporter say it's not a big deal and it actually makes sense:
Aside from the ownership factor, moving The Orville to Hulu makes sense given that Family Guy ranks at or near the top of the Disney-owned streamer's most-watched library titles as the animation boom has sparked Netflix and CBS to launch studios of their own. Animation titles like Family Guy, Rick and Morty and Bob's Burgers have become billion-dollar franchises and outlets like Apple, Hulu, Fox and CBS All Access have continued to ramp up investment in the space. MacFarlane is considered the biggest name in the genre, though sources say his main focus right now is on acting

I bizarrely love his freaky plastic surgery and grooming. I would totally fuck him now. I bet he didn't get much action in his art school days. And those RISD boys could be gorgeous.

r3 Yeah, I like the experts' take better because Seth's statement is the showbiziest showbiz statement ever. A whole paragraph of PR fat.

It shouldn't be. No, really, Seth, we're fine over here.

I miss his hairy chest.

Seth McFarlane, unquestionably the least famous person ever to host the Oscars.

R8 Fuck, is he Asian adjacent?
by Anonymous | reply 10 | July 21, 2019 12:07 AM |
R9 And his song about seeing boobs, what a fucking tasteless prick
by Anonymous | reply 11 | July 21, 2019 12:16 AM |
No dear, he's blasted lasered sanded and polished, tucked, lifted and botoxed, then Max Factored to the Gods
by Anonymous | reply 12 | July 21, 2019 12:19 AM |
But I like it on him.
by Anonymous | reply 13 | July 21, 2019 12:20 AM |
His hairline, head, face... none of them makes sense. Everything is just, off.
by Anonymous | reply 14 | July 21, 2019 12:37 AM |
It's all faked. GRAND-GUIGNOL effect. Yet, he still looks a lot like the college geek he was.
by Anonymous | reply 15 | July 21, 2019 12:40 AM |
Jimmy Fallon and Jimmy Kimmel have also gone asian. Perhaps they all use the same cosmetic surgeon/dermatologist.

People are perplexed by The Orville because—
1. It's a homage to Sea Trek (but it has better production values)
2. It is a satire of present life but it uses a dry humour. It has no laugh track.
by Anonymous | reply 19 | July 21, 2019 6:15 AM |
I used to love Lloyd Bridges on Sea Trek.

People are perplexed by The Orville because—
1. The tone is all over the place and it has no idea what type of show it is meant to be
by Anonymous | reply 21 | July 21, 2019 6:26 AM |
God, I hated Sea Trek. "Swimming to places where no sea life swam to ever before". What a fucking stupid catch phrase.

R10, Turning Japanese, I think he’s turning Japanese, I really think so.

I kind of love The Orville, nothing like it on tv. Occasional clunky episodes, but it’s ST:TNG homage heart is firmly in the right place.
by Anonymous | reply 24 | July 21, 2019 6:50 AM |
R24 yes it does have occasional clunky episodes but this episode was excellent and true!!!
by Anonymous | reply 25 | July 21, 2019 7:14 AM |
For me the best one was the doctor and her sons getting stranded on a planet. It happened in the first season. What The Orville does best is put modern day social movements on the spot. Like in r25.
by Anonymous | reply 26 | July 21, 2019 7:22 AM |
R22, do you mean "Sea Hunt"?
by Anonymous | reply 27 | July 22, 2019 1:13 AM |
He's extremely waxy and uncanny valley. Almost like that human Ken doll from south America. Hideous.
by Anonymous | reply 28 | July 22, 2019 9:07 PM |
There are moments of brilliance on the Orville, and it's mostly settled down from the stupid 8th grade humor of the 1st season.
by Anonymous | reply 29 | July 22, 2019 9:55 PM |
^ There are moments of brilliance on Family Guy too.
Brian Griffin is a multi-dimensional, well-rounded, sympathetic character.

There have been rumors that the show wouldn't be returning to Fox since last season.
His explanation doesn't make a lot of sense, but it seems like there's more to this since the show was relatively successful and had good buzz.
by Anonymous | reply 32 | July 23, 2019 5:32 PM |
He strikes me as extremely arrogant.

There is no incentive now for Fox Broadcasting to carry anything produced by Disney's 20th Century Fox Television. And there is no incentive for anything from Disney's 20th Century Fox television to continue to produce content for Fox Broadcasting.

I remember when "Family Guy" premiered and Macfarlane was this nerd with a Caesar cut and coke bottle glasses.

While it is a demotion in that it will cut out international markets that can't get Hulu it seems to be positive for him since he simply could not do the show by the time they wanted it but also his deal is ending with Fox and a new huge one is possibly starting so that probably played into it.
As he said here:
[quote]But as the show has evolved and become more ambitious production-wise, I determined that I would not be able to deliver episodes until 2020, which would be challenging for the network.
It sounds to me like they're getting more of a budget and more time to produce the episodes at Hulu.
According to another article Season 4 won't even debut until the END of 2020.

I'm not so sure about that. I read on Reddit that the international audiences will get it on Fox, just as before.
by Anonymous | reply 38 | July 23, 2019 7:29 PM |
That's season 4, r38, and if it made it that far it would have debut the end of 2020 anyway. It's season 3 that's in question.
by Anonymous | reply 39 | July 23, 2019 7:37 PM |
No, I specifically read that for season 3, which is the subject of this thread.
by Anonymous | reply 40 | July 23, 2019 7:41 PM |
His obsession with casting himself as a "Lead Actor" is preposterous enough. The multitude of episodes with him bitching about his ex-wife while stalking her is creepy. And the kissing shots. Ew, more gross than Norm McDonald's mucous character.
by Anonymous | reply 41 | July 23, 2019 7:42 PM |
R38, that's not what you wrote...

Sorry, it's r37 that mentioned season 4.
