What actually gives someone “star quality”. Many try and many fail to become an actor/singer but a few get lucky. What makes people (who obviously weren’t born rich) break the mold? It’s actually quite interesting to me that some people just make it (trying just as hard or maybe even less) and others fail.
[quote]Many try and many fail to become an actor/singer but a few get lucky by fucking for roles.
Corrected.

You mean other than blowing the right people?
"It" is sex appeal, in all its various forms. You can have loads of talent but if people don't want to fuck you, you're probably not going to make it.

R3 What about people in terms of same sex casting (ie a male straight director casting a male actor)

What about it, R4? It's the same - fuckability, sex appeal.
Gay men respond to the sex appeal in straight men, straight women and gay women as well as in other gay men. Sex appeal is universal. Haven't you ever met anyone who has it? Gender and orientation make no difference, everyone is charmed by it if you have it. If you don't have it, you can't manufacture it. It doesn't mean that no one wants to fuck you, it means that everyone doesn't want to fuck you.
Al Pacino (who has since lost it) once had a lot of sex appeal. When he moved into an apartment he used to put his picture on the door and wait for the girls in the building to make up reasons to stop by and he didn't wait long. He got hired by a lot of male directors. They can see/feel the draw of "It" because it shows to everyone.

I don't think that's actually what big dick energy means.

It's not simply being sexually attractive--Angela Lansbury has it, but there are way sexier actresses who don't. It's really clear on stage--some actors just kind of pop--you get pulled into their story, you care about the character they're playing and it's easy to read them. And, despite the M/G jokes, Glenn Close has that quality on stage. I saw her onstage years ago with Jeremy Irons. He was fine and much prettier than Glenn, but she had that star glow to her.
