Teaser for Kingsman Prequel

"The King's Man" is a prequel to the 2014 hit Kingsman: The Secret Service; the film stars Ralph Fiennes, Matthew Goode, Gemma Arterton, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Tom Hollander, Djimon Honsou, Stanley Tucci, Rhys Ifans, Daniel Brühl, Charles Dance, Alexandra Maria Lara, Alison Steadman and Harris Dickenson. The plot shows the origins of The Kingsman in the early 20th century when a group of tyrants and villains conspire to wipe out millions -- from the teaser, it looks somewhat like a steampunk version of the First World War.

We don't want that English royalty stuff here.

I used to have the biggest boner for Ralph Finnes. It felt so wrong and uncomfortable for me to get wet for him in the Nazi uniform.

What a great idea! The sequel, Kingsman: The Golden Circle, was such a massive hit that this prequel cannot help but succeed!

$410 million worldwide ain't bad, r3.

I loved the first Kingsman film but passed on the second because it looked terrible;e. Needless to say I'll pass on this one too.

by Anonymousreply 6July 16, 2019 10:54 PM

I think this one looks far better than the first two

by Anonymousreply 7July 16, 2019 11:00 PM

The second one was stupid, and the American "kingsmen" were a big reason for that, but Sir Elton is hilarious in it and makes it worth seeing once.

by Anonymousreply 8July 17, 2019 12:11 AM

The linked album tells who is playing who -- Rhys Ifans is playing Rasputin and Daniel Brühl is playing Prince Yusupov, both of whom were bisexual, so I wonder if we'll see anything with that....

R9 Who told you Rasputin was bisexual?

It's in the DL history archives. Try to keep up.

by Anonymousreply 11July 18, 2019 12:29 AM

The first one was fun and entertaining.

The second one was burdened with shoehorning in all sorts of crap - like bringing Colin Firth back from the dead.

The third one: Eggsy Unwin (Egerton) whose father Lee Unwin was killed protecting Firth's character. Aaron Taylor Johnson plays a character named - Lee Unwin. But the movie is obviously set in the early 20th century. So, now we're going to get a bunch of shoehorned mythology. If Eggsy is 20 in 2015, then he was born in 1995. If his father was 30 (Eggsy being his first and only son), then father was born in 1965. If father was born in 1965, whoever this "Lee Unwin" is would have to be Eggsy's great great grandfather. Either, being a "Kingsmen" is a family thing, something their recruitment process would definitely NOT support, or we're to believe that happenstance brought Eggsy's father into the Kingsmen four generations after his great great grandfather.

I predict the story will be overburdened with worldbuilding and a lot of exposition necessary to articulate it's mythos.

by Anonymousreply 12July 18, 2019 1:10 AM

There is a third one already?

The prequel looks much more serious than the ones with Egerton.

by Anonymousreply 13July 18, 2019 1:38 AM

In the second one I could not figure out why Julianne Moore's character would attack and decimatethe Kingsmen out of nowhere. Her character wasn't even on their radar. I can't be just because of Charlie (Holcroft) joining her gang? Her actual plan did not even involve England.

by Anonymousreply 14July 18, 2019 1:44 AM

The movie I really want to see is a crossover that is Melissa McCarthy's Spy as an American operative and Kingsmen - similar tone, tongue in cheek approach to spy movies and both sides with hilarious memorable supporting characters.

Why she would make several terrible nothing movies and NOT a sequel to Spy boggles my mind.

by Anonymousreply 15July 18, 2019 2:02 AM

No need for a shoddy po-faced continuation film, the first was sufficient. It's not STAR WARS or X-MEN, and a large part of the charm of the first film was the easiness of the romp and the no-nonsense world-building (how Brit). A series of light novels to follow would have been more apt.

Even the first film was a bit over-slick, flash, needlessly gory & Wachowski-esque in places. What's more, I could have wished for a bacchanal scene between Eggers & the posh-boy candidates who trained with him, rather than fading out on that Swedish princess wiggling bare bum. You could tell those Oxbridge freshers were just panting after our erstwhile-Marine Eggsy once they saw him in wet clothes and later in Kevlar.

LOL! It just got pushed back from February to September. They are burying it.

No gay content, these films are made for douchebros.

My husband looks so much like Stanley Tucci (except much taller) that they could be brothers. Jealous, bitches?

by Anonymousreply 26January 22, 2021 6:25 PM

Will AT-J get dongfully delicious in this star-packed prequel?

by Anonymousreply 27January 22, 2021 7:07 PM

The first movie was ruined by the gratuitous violence in the church massacre. I couldn’t watch the sequel because of that.

by Anonymousreply 28January 22, 2021 7:32 PM

The Church Massacre's the best sequence in the franchise. The second film's not very good at all. The prequel looks like it could be good.

by Anonymousreply 29January 22, 2021 7:53 PM

I hope for the sake of society that you’re already incarcerated.

There was something absurd, satirical, and cathartic about the scene. That evangelical rot is one of the factors that led to Trump in the first place, and they've become more empowered since his presidency. It's also a technically well done scene. He's also killed shortly thereafter, so hopefully that thrilled you?

Or maybe these types of films just aren't for you.

by Anonymousreply 31January 22, 2021 8:36 PM

[quote] Or maybe these types of films just aren't for you.

My view against gratuitous violence and movie scenes favored by sociopaths should be clear to you.

by Anonymousreply 32January 22, 2021 8:52 PM

There are way more violent films than Kingsman, which is cartoonish in its execution. It's clear that you took a bloody comedy too seriously, which is why I said films like this might not be for you. I think you should avoid them as they're obviously too transgressive for your sensibilities.

by Anonymousreply 33January 23, 2021 1:34 AM

Okay, Prudence.

by Anonymousreply 35January 23, 2021 2:32 AM

They're not pushing the release date back to "bury" it. They're pushing it back because they want to release it in theaters before going to streaming.

Pushing it back for a theater release shows they think it has promise for big box office money.

Now here a link to Harris Dickenson shirtless in 2017's gay themed Beach Rats:

Just watched this. It was a different tone then the previous two. It was a fun ride with some predictable and some unpredictable parts.

Overall, I hope they make a 4th.

Rasputin was the highlight of the film. I’d say see it when it comes out in streaming.
