Trump Tells The Gang of 4 POC Congresswomen To Go Back to the Countries They Cane From

Twitter is melting down in righteous rage over this imbecile’s tweet.
by Anonymous | reply 1 | July 14, 2019 9:35 PM |
Impeach now.
by Anonymous | reply 2 | July 14, 2019 9:37 PM |
He’s just poking that Dem schism. Now Nancy will have to be “Team Woke.”
Ilhan Omar is the albatross around the Dems’ neck with her anti-Semitism and perceived “un-American” values. Now the media will ~breathlessly~ scream again and again how Racist Trump is (like that’s worked the 1,000,000,000 other times he’s been called that) and force the moderate Dems to have to accept the libs wholesale.
This is why Nancy told these dumb bitches to not criticize the moderates. And they’ll still be too fucking stupid to get it.
by Anonymous | reply 4 | July 14, 2019 9:45 PM |
Funny you don't get mad at the moderates (Moulton, et al) who wanted to overthrow Pelosi and get all pissy at the ppl who voted for her as speaker. It's almost as if you're a complete fraud who is posing as a concerned lib.
by Anonymous | reply 5 | July 14, 2019 9:47 PM |
That all but one were born in the US, illustrates how the Racist in Chief and his base will never see people of color as "true Americans."

Dem conflict aside, he is a piece of shit
by Anonymous | reply 7 | July 14, 2019 9:48 PM |
Yep, the unspoken assumption behind the tweets is that only native-born whites are "Americans." Also, this current fracas is a direct result of Pelosi's refusal to move forward with impeachment, driven by a perceived need to protect the seats of the 'moderates.'
by Anonymous | reply 8 | July 14, 2019 9:49 PM |
I don't recall them threatening to primary everyone whose vote they didn't like or play the race card, r5.
by Anonymous | reply 9 | July 14, 2019 9:51 PM |
Even though I agree with the Gang of 4 on most issues, I do realize that they are hurting Dems chances in 2020. White, working-class voters in the midwest are horrified by AOC and Omar, and Trump will run against them more than the actual Dem nominee. He's going to have white voters so scared that it'll be impossible for us to win the electoral college.
by Anonymous | reply 10 | July 14, 2019 9:54 PM |
AOC and Omar will have literally zero consequences for the general in 2020. The race will be between a corrupt Nazi and a middle of the road nice person. We will see what America wants. I'm actually betting on the corrupt Nazi.

1. To make his Deplorables happy
2. To make sane liberal voters lose it over how insane/racist/sexist/stupid he is
Which serves to reinforce #1-- the angrier the "libtards" are, the happier the Deplorables are.

EVERY Republican needs to be cornered by the news and asked directly "Do you support what the President tweeted?". If they answer no because it's racist, ask them why they would continue to support a racist in the White House. If they answer yes, ask them if they harbor the same racist attitudes.

R31, as if POC don’t make even WORSE distinctions of “othering”. Ha.
People with black skin who come to this country have very little in common with American blacks. I had a roommate at school who would tell us “I’m not black. I’m Guyanese”. I know many others who stridently sought to be differentiate themselves from American black people. They don’t want to be lumped in with that culture.
As much as Kamala wants to be perceived as a regular old black lady, with her busing stories, she isn’t. And American blacks know it. I’m sure her immigrant parents kept her studying and practicing piano or whatever, and she wasn’t allowed to hang out with American black kids.

Address it but don't lose focus on the middle and working class. Avoid Hillary's mistake on focusing solely on identity issues, in her case, women. The GOP racialized it and got the bulk of white women.

Roughly 30% of the voting population is die hard Republican. They are going to vote for Trump, regardless.
Just under 40% of the voting population is Democratic. If they don’t stay home, they will vote for whomever the party runs.
The remaining 30% is independent (leaning slightly right - includes many former Bush/McCain Republicans). Sorry to tell you all, but we need the majority of their votes if we’re going to have a safety margin against Florida (etc) shenanigans.
We won’t get them if they think voting Democratic means they’ll lose their doctor and get taxed to pay off other people’s kids student loans.

Hey R62, what if a political party did nothing with its power but cut taxes for the rich (very unpopular), ban abortion (also unpopular, though less so) and killed Obamacare (also unpopular). Would we be subjected to these constant "WHY CAN'T THEY MOVE TO THE CENTER"?? tirades. No one ever thinks the Rs are gonna move to the center. And they'll call anything ANYTHING socialist. So let's have some.
by Anonymous | reply 66 | July 15, 2019 2:16 PM |

by Anonymous | reply 67 | July 15, 2019 2:26 PM |

At this point, you cannot be "sort of" for Trump or against him. Same for the fawning Republicans who are kowtowing to him. I've seen so many editorials today proclaiming Trump's tweets were a re-election strategy that's working (as if he were that intelligent) instead of simply stating what he wrote was wrong and unfitting for the Office of the President.

"The Gang of Four"? Did they choose that name themselves?
"Gang of Four...the most powerful members of a radical political elite convicted for implementing the harsh policies directed by Chinese Communist Party (CCP) chairman Mao Zedong during the Cultural Revolution (1966–76). The group included Mao’s third wife, Jiang Qing, and Wang Hongwen, Zhang Chunqiao, and Yao Wenyuan. Their backgrounds were similar in that prior to 1966 all four were low- or middle-ranking officials who lacked leverage within the existing power structure. Shared traits included their ability to manipulate the mass media, their good standing with Mao, and their dislike of and subsequent desire to overthrow moderate government officials who clustered around Liu Shaoqi and Deng Xiaoping."

Accidental choices of words? I think not. She is as disgusting as Trump - not that I think she is as racist, but because she is trying to defend him and doubling down.

r226 is falling for the propaganda of the right wing. The package that the house voted for in the end was NOT "humanitarian" aid. It was a general funding package for the border crisis, which DID include some funding for detention centers, but which left out all the previous House versions which had included oversight provisions from congress and language that excluded the President from appropriating some of the money for more wall building. It also included money for ICE which could be used for more raids, more deportations, more family separations, etc. The Senate played hardball with the House Dems, and won, because of the time constraints of the upcoming recess. These 4 members voted against it BECAUSE it was a bad bill, not because they are against humanitarian aid for detained children. There is nothing in the new bill for instance, which makes the many private detention centers the President has contracted out to for allowing congresspeople in to see the conditions inside. We already know from other reporting that conditions are miserable, but there is ZERO accountability under this new bill. Don't fall for the Kelly Conway/ FOX news version of events, because every time you do so, you will be believing a lie.

Okay, let's look at this. Does anyone not think that this entire strategy was hatched last weekend at the White House conference of far right-wing Nazis ? Trump is going to run against AOC and make her and her ideals the centerpiece of his campaign by labeling all Democrats socialists. By attacking these four women, he is banking on the Dems uniting behind them; he can then say " The Democrats hate America; they stand for socialism and anti-Semitism. By continuing to focus on Trump's racism ( which he doesn't care about), he figures that the Dems will back themselves into a corner. Pelosi knows this, but can't seem to control the adolescents who are the target of Trump's tweets. Mayor Pete is correct - the Dems will never win by playing his game; they must focus on their vision for America. Unfortunately, most are playing right into his hands..and he knows it. And don't forget the media and how they play into all of this. If Trump continues to attack AOC and the "squad," the media will continue to focus on them as well, making it seem as if the Democratic Party is all about these 4 congresswomen. Ever since Trump's tweets over the weekend, this is nearly all that the media has talked about. News about the Democratic candidates has been pushed aside.
This is going to be a repeat of 2016, when the media focused all of their attention on the Trump outrage of the day, making it difficult for Hillary (or any of Trump's GOP primary challengers) to break through. Whoever the Democratic nominee is for 2020, they need to seize the media narrative away from Trump. If the media focuses on how great Trump is, we lose. But if the media focuses on how terrible Trump is, we ALSO lose. We need to get the media to stop its fixation on all things Trump and focus on the Democratic nominee and the Democrats' plans for the future.

Former Texas judge leaves GOP over Trump
Elsa Alcala, a former Republican judge who once sat on the Texas Court of Criminal Appeals, said Monday that she has decided to leave the Republican Party after decades, citing President Trump’s “racism,” the Austin American-Statesman reports.
In a post shared from the retired judge’s Facebook page that has been gaining traction online, Alcala wrote, “It has taken me years to say this publicly but here I go. President Trump is the worst president in the history of this country.”
“Even accepting that Trump has had some successes — and I believe these are few — at his core, his ideology is racism. To me, nothing positive about him could absolve him of his rotten core,” the post continued.

When asked what kind of message she believed the vote would send to Mr. Trump, Pelosi noted that the vote was a resolution in the House only and did not require passage in the Senate or the president's signature. But it really is a get out of jail free card to excuse anything. The Deplorables simply can’t keep their mouths shut. But secondly, the Right hates people for who they are: brown, black, gay, immigrants, Muslims, and so forth. The Left hates people, to the extent that they do, because of their actions. That’s a huge difference. I avoid him now because he can’t keep his opinion to himself. Plus, his opinions aren’t even based in reality, so it’s frustrating.

This was a Right wing trope from the 1960s. It was a way to try to stifle the social changes we were going through. Particularly for equal rights based on race, gender, and sexual orientation. It was really scary for older, conservative folks. They could not understand that wanting to make a “more perfect union” did not mean you “hated” your country.
Public protest is an American tradition. To “love” your country is great, and that does not mean to believe it to be flawless. I think Trump knows this and he’s just using this trope to manipulate his utterly stupid followers.

WaPo:
Trump said he disavows "send her back" chant last night about Rep. Ilhan Omar. "I was not happy with it. I disagree with it," he said. He was the first person to suggest she "go back" in a Sunday tweet.

You could say that he’s not a fan. And say it very strongly.

You know there's a huge difference between encouraging someone to go somewhere and forcibly removing them, which the chant last night implied.

The chant was the logical result of the tweet. There is not a huge difference between Trump's tweet and last night's chant. And you know it. Anyone with any basic sense of decency knows it.

r310, when "go back where they came from" is preceded by "originally came from countries whose governments are a complete and total catastrophe," it is implied.

[quote] Trump never said "go back to the countries"
Of course he did. Trump's tweet said that they "came from [bold] countries [/bold] whose governments are a complete and total catastrophe," and then said they should "go back and help fix the totally broken and crime infested places from which they came." Then he said that "Nancy Pelosi would be very happy to quickly work out free travel arrangements"
Deplorables are now claiming that "the places from which they came" actually means the districts they represent, as if Trump was suggesting that Omar should go back to Minneapolis. But let's look at this logically:
1. Since Trump specifically said "came from countries" at the start of his tweet, how could "places from which they came" in the same tweet mean anything other than countries?
2. If "places from which they came" means their home districts, is Trump implying that Minneapolis, where Omar is from, is a "totally broken and crime infested place"?
3. If Trump meant their home districts, why would Pelosi step in to work out free travel arrangements? Congressmen and women go back to their home districts all the time. It's really not that hard or expensive to fly between U.S. cities.
4. Omar actually DID go back to Minneapolis yesterday (and got a warm welcome). So I guess that will satisfy Trump and his supporters, right? I guess we won't be hearing any more criticism of Omar from them, right?

Don't sweat it, R313. They know damn well what he said and what he meant, just as we all do. They'll try to explain this away just as they've tried to explain away all of his other intemperate observations and unhinged rants. It's becoming less and less effective.

And then it needs to go to the Senate. And the moderate Republicans like that cunt Susan Collins are gonna be forced to make a choice.

Susan Collins has taken a huge hit in approval in Maine this year.
Down to only 45% approval in this week's Senator approval rankings from Morning Consult:
SUSAN COLLINS:
> "net slide of 16 points from earlier in the year"
> "the biggest decline of anyone in the Senate"
> 46% of independents disapprove (a critical voting bloc in Maine)

People are mad at PELOSI because she’s not as outspoken as AOC. r323 I'm quoting what I wrote far up thread: "I remember so well when AOC walked down a stairway in Queens and said, "All white people are racists and murderers, and I suppose a few of them are decent people". I remember when she got in front of a camera and said "all European countries are shitholes". I remember when she said "why can't we get good immigrants from Latin America instead of criminals from Norway". I remember when she said........oh, wait, she's never said anything remotely like any of that, and yet you felt compelled to make an exact equivalency between her speech and behavior and that of DJT. Are you always that stupid?"
And I will continue to quote myself every time I read one of these equivalency posts. "She's just like DJT". BULLSHIT. She's young, she sometimes speaks without thinking through all the ramifications of what she's saying, but she is no Donald Trump. Moreover, she is addressing the concerns that have been voiced for years, that the Democratic party pays lip service to the communities of color in this country and relies on their votes without delivering that much. Not that the Republican party is going to poach many voters of color now, but in my opinion, it's healthy to have some voices from that community identifying as Democrat and forcing the establishment of the party to articulate how their policies are actually going to benefit that community.
