Short shorts have been in for a while now.

Crop tops not so much.

by Anonymousreply 4July 13, 2019 10:09 PM

R2, thank you!!!

Bring back treasure trails too. Admittedly, though, they’re making a slight comeback.

by Anonymousreply 5July 13, 2019 10:15 PM

The more things change, the more they do not remain the same.

R12 That Is Caitlyn Jenner Pre-Transition in one of her movies

by Anonymousreply 13July 14, 2019 12:22 AM

R12 but please dont refer to transgender beings by their former names

Where are short shorts in? I never see them above the knee.

by Anonymousreply 19July 14, 2019 8:58 AM

We wore crop tops in the 60s, why else would I dress like this?

R20 is that from Happy Days??

by Anonymousreply 21July 14, 2019 10:28 AM

That’s Billy Warlock (Flip) from HAPPY DAYS.

by Anonymousreply 22July 14, 2019 10:32 AM

Unfortunately this probably won't happen. Whether it is due to food additives, processed food, lack of exercise, today's teens and young adults don't have the thin, lithe bodies of yesteryear. Not including the IG gym bunnies, the typical male today is paunchy or soft around the middle by 16 (definitely by 21). Look at most of these type photos from the 50s-60s-70s and even adult men were still slender, expecting their paunch at 40.

by Anonymousreply 23July 14, 2019 10:38 AM

R22 Always wanted to nail Billy.

by Anonymousreply 24July 14, 2019 10:53 AM

Yup. Wore those.

by Anonymousreply 25July 14, 2019 11:35 AM

Back in the 80's I had my way with a hot studly lad in short cut off jeans and a crop top I met in the park one Saturday. Ah, happy times.

by Anonymousreply 26July 14, 2019 12:11 PM

R18, Why would you say no to the crop tops, then post someone wearing one?

I’m genuinely curious as to why you wouldn’t want crop tops to make a comeback.

I’d rather have crop tops back than short-shorts. I can see all I need to see no matter how far the leg on a pair of shorts goes down. It’s not the leg area I’m looking at.

by Anonymousreply 27July 14, 2019 2:03 PM

r23 I dint believe that i believe everyone can wear a crop top and short shorts no matter what size they are. Every size is beautiful once we take off our society expectation glasses. I believe in body positivity!!!!

by Anonymousreply 28July 14, 2019 2:39 PM

Fuck you fattie ^

by Anonymousreply 29July 14, 2019 2:40 PM

R28 you want to try that in English?

by Anonymousreply 30July 14, 2019 2:43 PM

Yes, please.

I absolutely love this! I love how they were able to transmit such masculinity back in the day! It would be considered effeminate these days, tho

Those were the days

by Anonymousreply 31July 14, 2019 2:46 PM

[Quote] Why would you say no to the crop tops, then post someone wearing one? I’m genuinely curious as to why you wouldn’t want crop tops to make a comeback.

Because it looks ridiculous. It's bad enough they made a comeback in women's fashion. However I think you could get away with short shorts.....to an extent.

R32 How come is it slutty for women but only ridiculous for men?

We demand equality in the slut

by Anonymousreply 35July 15, 2019 12:11 AM

There is nothing ridiculous about a sexy boy in a crop top and cut off jeans. Anyone who thinks it is ridiculous should be slapped repeatedly about the head and shoulders.

They're both gross.

I guess if you're behind a pane of glass in a red light district in Amsterdam, but otherwise.... no.

by Anonymousreply 37July 15, 2019 12:17 AM

Sigh. To think at one time I could actually wear crop tops .And most certainly did !

by Anonymousreply 38July 15, 2019 12:20 AM

Many of the football players in my high school in the 70s wore crop tops. The tops were cut so high the lower halves of their areolas would always be in view. I think it was a purposeful decision. Maybe to rankle the school administration. I certainly didn't mind.

by Anonymousreply 39July 15, 2019 12:52 AM

Does anybody have a reliable retailer of both lovely short shorts and/or crop tops?

Economic, please?

by Anonymousreply 40July 15, 2019 12:59 AM

[quote]Does anybody have a reliable retailer of both lovely short shorts and/or crop tops?

Can't you just get them at the same place you buy your caftans?

by Anonymousreply 41July 15, 2019 1:37 AM

Little shorts never went anywhere, they just dipped in popularity for a time. In grade 11, 1997, I was in cross country running (to get out of playing soccer), and there was a guy who's wear those on group runs, I'd get behind him and focus on his perfect little ass as motivation to keep going. I would wear a jockstrap to hide the massive erection it gave me every time.

by Anonymousreply 42July 15, 2019 1:46 AM

Crop tops only looked good on men who had washboard abs and 0% body fat. If a man didn't have a toned mid-section or was even just a handful of pounds overweight, he looked kind of gross in a crop top.

by Anonymousreply 43July 15, 2019 2:35 AM

R36 lol I was waiting for someone to post that.

by Anonymousreply 44July 15, 2019 2:39 AM

R43 Balderdash ! I never had washboard abs and I looked dammed good in a crop top. My smooth tan stomach had scads of men laying on it thanks to a crop top.

by Anonymousreply 45July 15, 2019 2:44 AM

R42, excuse me, but world history did not begin with you. In 1997, you were in 11th grade? In the late 1970s and early 80s, I was a ballet dancer and I excited male libidos everywhere I went in my short shorts. They were popular for women in the 1950s. Men wore them even before that.

The short shorts did, indeed, go everywhere. It is you who have not yet been anywhere at all.

R34

No wonder they only had one hit

by Anonymousreply 47July 15, 2019 3:33 AM

George Micheal singlehandedly killed short shorts, while popularizing beards, thus killing off the mustache

by Anonymousreply 48July 15, 2019 3:35 AM

Back in the 70s and 80s, a lot of athletes wore short shorts while competing, basketball players and track and field athletes in particular.

Of course, they don't hold a candle to the spandex tights track and field competitors wear today. I love those short distance runners whose junk lumbers back and forth when they are running. I'm surprised they're not shy about it before a race. There are no doubts how well-endowed they are, you can even see the heads of their cocks pushed against the spandex.

One year until the Olympics!

by Anonymousreply 49July 15, 2019 4:01 AM

Short shorts, died out by 1985. I recall I was looking to buy shorts that summer and all were down to knee length by that time.

by Anonymousreply 50July 15, 2019 8:49 AM

The football team at my high school did the same thing at practice, R39. They cut the shirts so their nipples would peek from below the cut line. Some of them wore short jeans shorts and kept the top button unbuttoned, so their zippers would go down the teeth and they'd show off the treasure trail and eventually some of their pubes.

I remember it because it was a powerful image at the time. I'm surprised the coach didn't put a stop to it. Maybe he felt it was hyper-masculine. Or maybe he was turned on...

I graduated from high school in '86. At the time I had fairly recently bought a pair of OP shorts that went to the knees and a pair of plaid shorts that were longer, but everything else was mid thigh or short shorts. By the time I graduated from college it had flipped, I had a couple pair of shorter shorts but the majority were to the knee. If you were working out - running - tennis etc - the athletic shorts were still shorter.

I do remember in high school, you did not go out in the evening in shorts - you put on a pair of jeans to go out to go to a movie - which was not always fun in the heat of the summer. That was one nice thing about the longer walking shorts, they had pockets and you wore them in place you did not wear the usually pocketless short shorts of the time. Plus they were still above the knee - not the really long shorts that were in style in the 90s.

by Anonymousreply 72July 19, 2019 2:41 AM

Someone questioned that short shorts were back in style. I agree, that the shorts of the 70's early 80's are not back in style, and you still see a lot of short down to or even blow the knee, but I do see more young men wearing shorts that are a few inches above the knee -- more mid thigh.
