Doesn't she? It's not just nasal. Do you think vocal fry damages Harris's likability?
She doesn't have fry; she's just unelectable.

Mayor Pete has a bad case of it.

Doesn't everyone in California have it?
r2 No, he does not. It's precisely the absence of vocal fry that makes his voice so appealing to me.

R2 has no concept of what vocal fry is, yet writes in ignorance.

I can't be objective, because I dislike her in general.

Kamala doesn't have vocal fry. She does sound quite nasal at times. I can't stand vocal fry and will change the channel if someone is on and speaks that way, such as the daughter Mina on HGTV's renovation show "Good Bones". The Kim K video in R6 is horrendous.

I probably shouldn't defend myself but there is a MSNBC commercial that runs all the time where Mayor Pete says "we're going to do things in a novel way" in full fry.
But I suppose I might fry when tired or something

Here is Emily Bazelon, one of the worst examples of vocal fry I've ever heard. She's always on some slate podcasts--Political gabfest or something. This is her on a good day. Just listen a little while for when her voice drops down to scratches at the end of each sentence. Chalk on a blackboard. There were long threads on vocal fry on DL a few years ago. I imagine you can find them in the search engine. If I were in the same room with Professor Emily, I would leave it. If you want the worst ever example, but famously unique, google Jill Abramson, the former editor of the NY Times. She wins hands down. I think it's why she was fired frankly.

Jill Abramson's lovely dulcet tones.
Personally I think Kamala has a nasal voice. She doesn't really have vocal fry. I don't like her voice or her for that matter.
Pete B. has a voice I could listen to all day. He has a really pleasant and agreeable voice and is one of the things that I first noticed about him.

I will say that Kamala's voice affected me negatively when I first heard her speaking during the Senate Judiciary hearings, but I just heard an overly nasal voice. She seems to be less nasal, so maybe she had a sinus problem that she corrected or has had speech coaching. I don't think she has "black lady voice" at all, just kind of nasal. I am really sensitive to voices and always have been. Sherrod Brown's voice drives me up and over the wall. That's gravel fry I guess. I loved Obama's voice but only voted for him because I thought he had a better chance of winning than Hillary. Mayor Pete has a terrific and soothing voice. I wouldn't vote for her, but Tulsi Gabbard has a good low and powerful voice for a woman.

I said the same thing during Buttigieg's interview with David Axelrod on CNN this week: "I could listen to Mayor Pete speak all night."
I do hope though that he authentically gets a little fired up at least once during the next debates he'd involved in. I think people need to see some passion and even a little anger in him; we all know he's brilliant, empathetic, well spoken, etc.

I told Kamala to lower her pitch so she wouldn't sound like a teenage girl, and told her to stop giggling at the end of every sentence too.
by Anonymous | reply 14 | July 14, 2019 6:34 AM |
I don't know about vocal fry, but the way she speaks is so affected. Very annoying.
by Anonymous | reply 15 | July 14, 2019 6:36 AM |
How can she have black lady voice when she’s not black? OP do better.
by Anonymous | reply 16 | July 14, 2019 6:40 AM |
Kamala is half black but grew up in Berkeley in her early years with a Phd scientist mother from India. Her father went AWOL or anyway didn't raise her and besides was Jamaican and also a Ph.d.. So she would only have phony black lady voice, probably when speaking to a black African-American audience, like Obama did when he spoke to a black crowd.

He voice is annoyingly nasal.

Kamala's father appears to be a light-skinned Jamaican man, not caucasian.

Wow. She looks just like her father. Very good looking man for his age in that picture.
