Eva Peron was not a nice person, nor someone AOC ought to want to be associated with. She was double-crossing everyone in Argentina to the point of buying weapons from Prince Bernhardt of the Netherlands on her deathbed to arm [italic]campesinos[italics] in a rebellion her husband, Juan Peron, wanted put down. She ordered the arrest, imprisonment and torture of her opponents. She did good as well (women got the vote, social services were improved, hospitals were built) but squandered any goodwill created when access to services was limited to their political supporters. Between them they destroyed the Argentine economy - in 1947 it was one of the wealthiest countries on earth, having escaped WWII unscathed with grain and beef to sell to a world that needed it. Eva was a whore who fucked her way to the top and acted like it as first lady.

Anyone who thinks Andrew Lloyd Webber was writing history is nuts, whether they're on the left or the right.

I don't know that she's trying to die on this hill - she made a couple ill-judged tweets and then basically shut up about it, far as I can tell. The Twitter outrage machine kept this alive, as it will tend to do (until the next thing comes along).

R17 Thanks for stating most of what I wanted to say. The only thing is, that ALW's musical doesn't lionize her. In fact, it is very critical of her. So many people have complained about her depiction in the musical, but it's really not that far-off from how things occurred. As you stated, Eva fucked her way to the top and the proceeded to imprison and torture those who dared to rise up against the Perons. She was his hatchet man. But in this day and age of Woke Culture any woman in power is seen as a good thing. It's not.. Eva and Juan destroyed the Argentine economy during their stay in power, which would eventually lead to decades of military dictatorship.

GOP men are afraid of her because she has the capacity to create the same hero worship among some Democrats as trump does among some Republicans. With that power she could mold the country as trump is doing now. And she's an idealistic socialist. Plus, she is fearless. That is the best thing about her.
