I work in the airline industry and one of the most vehemently closeted, odd men I've ever known was a pilot. He was also a Republican. He was like that chick on that Seinfield episode: Sometime you would look at him and think he was attractive and other times you'd see him and think he looked like Lurch. He was very tall and used to joke that his "wingspan" (his outstretched arms) was longer than his actual height. He struck me as deeply, deeply troubled, and had no strong personal relationships. He used to claim that pilots were some of the most homophobic people on the planet. I always thought that was just his perception because I never experienced that.
