Grace Jones quits role in troubled James Bond film moments after arriving on set

THE troubled James Bond film has suffered another blow after Grace Jones quit her much-hyped role moments after arriving on set.

The diva, 70, who played iconic villain May Day in 1985’s A View To A Kill, walked away from the movie after discovering how few lines she’d been given.

Boss were left frustrated after wasting precious time and money securing a luxury residence for her to stay in near Pinewood Studios in Buckinghamshire.

A source said: “Grace’s 007 homecoming was meant to be a real crowd-pleasing moment. Bosses were really excited about landing her.

“Of course, she comes with a reputation, so they organised premium accommodation and rolled out the red carpet on set to make her feel welcome.

“But it turns out Grace was expecting to play a bigger role in the movie and took her brief cameo as a slight.

“She was out of there quicker than it takes to rustle up a martini.”

Grace’s cameo, thought to involve a scene opposite Daniel Craig, was first rumoured back in April.

It’s the latest setback to befall Bond 25, which earlier this month was rocked by three huge explosions on set.

The film was delayed after Bond actor Daniel, 51, tweaked ankle ligaments last month, forcing filming to be cancelled.

Who was she going to play--some sort of elder stateswoman like Teresa May?

by Anonymousreply 1July 1, 2019 7:52 PM

Didn't they give her a script? Sounds odd.

by Anonymousreply 2July 1, 2019 7:57 PM

I still can't believe we are getting another Daniel Craig Bond movie after he told everyone who would listen he would rather "slit his wrist" than do another Bond movie.

by Anonymousreply 3July 1, 2019 8:00 PM

Daniel Craig seems like a total douche.

by Anonymousreply 4July 1, 2019 8:02 PM

R3 right and this is why all of the who is the next Bond debating online is ridiculous.

The answer is and was always going to be Daniel Craig, for at least another decade.

by Anonymousreply 5July 1, 2019 8:03 PM

Always funny how they "secure luxury housing" for someone who was last a star 40 years ago

by Anonymousreply 6July 1, 2019 8:04 PM

I suspect this is all hype for the film. Fake news as one might say.

by Anonymousreply 7July 1, 2019 8:04 PM

Roger Moore stayed on as Bond longer than he wanted to because the producers wouldn't look for a new actor.

Daniel Craig is staying on as long as he can and won't give the producers a chance to find a new actor.

by Anonymousreply 8July 1, 2019 9:41 PM

Daniel Craig was begged to stay, and they kept offering more money to the point he couldn't refuse r8.

He didn't want this,.

by Anonymousreply 9July 1, 2019 9:44 PM

"Always funny how they "secure luxury housing" for someone who was last a star 40 years ago."

Exactly. The bitch is a "K" lister at best, yet she acts like she's been a super star A lister her entire life.

Hey, Grace: 1979 is calling. It wants its has-been back.

by Anonymousreply 10July 1, 2019 9:47 PM

[quote]they kept offering more money to the point he couldn't refuse

Is Don Corleone the producer?

Damn. Some things never change, I guess. I still remember when she was supposed to perform at Tracks in Washington, DC some time in the late 80's. She was late, and then she only sang three songs before she left the stage and the club. People were PISSED, but everyone got refunds and free drinks, so...

Tracks had a final "Grace Jones" night where they played ALL of her music, before they banned it.

Once a diva...

by Anonymousreply 12July 2, 2019 12:19 AM

Do they just keep churning out these shit films for the royal family? Who the fuck cares about James Bond anymore??! It's so stupid.

by Anonymousreply 13July 2, 2019 12:28 AM

Craig as Bond has killed my interest in the films.

I’ve seen two of his Bond films in theaters (and tried *so* hard to like them) but I’m done now.

His acting is flat, he looks like a troll doll to me in the face, and he doesn’t have the movie star “charisma” to make up the difference.

I haven’t enjoyed Bond since he has been in it. At least those Pierce movies were fun camp; the Craig films have been beyond boring.

by Anonymousreply 14July 2, 2019 1:28 AM

He looks like crap in a suit too, hardly elegant---and when the camera is shooting the back of his head, all I can see are those big pink ears sticking out like signal lights.

Grace should have been grateful for any high profile gig---I actually thought she was dead long ago.

by Anonymousreply 15July 2, 2019 1:35 AM

She's fucking Grace Jones and she can do no wrong in my book.

by Anonymousreply 16July 2, 2019 1:50 AM

would've loved to witness her throw the script at some director or assistant and storm out

by Anonymousreply 17July 2, 2019 1:58 AM

[quote] She's fucking Grace Jones and she can do no wrong in my book.

Thank you, darling. These fat, flyover-state Datalounge commoners don't know what it is to be a STAR.

I saw her at the Hollywood Bowl a few years back. She arrived late, but she was amazing. I remember her stage presence more than her music.

[quote] I saw her at the Hollywood Bowl a few years back. She arrived late, but she was amazing. I remember her stage presence more than her music.

It was 2015. I was there. She slayed.

by Anonymousreply 22July 2, 2019 2:23 AM

Her prior gig at the Hollywood Bowl (2009 or 2010, I believe) was even better! I'm not sure I believe this story, though.

by Anonymousreply 23July 2, 2019 3:05 AM

R23 That was a great show. I think she changed outfits every 2-3 songs. I've seen her twice since then at The Fox in Oakland and she killed it both times.

by Anonymousreply 24July 2, 2019 4:04 AM

So, no Grace and google eyed bug fucker as the villain?

by Anonymousreply 25July 2, 2019 4:10 AM

She should have done it and laughed about it.

by Anonymousreply 26July 2, 2019 4:13 AM

I'd rather watch Grace than another fucking Bond flick.

by Anonymousreply 27July 2, 2019 4:18 AM

Roger Moore and others complained about her difficult, unpleasant behavior on the Bond movie she made back in the day. Maybe the people working on the new Bond movie have dodged a bullet by having her quit the first day.

by Anonymousreply 28July 2, 2019 4:22 AM

JFC, why don't they just make Idris the new Bond already?

by Anonymousreply 29July 2, 2019 4:38 AM

R29 seriously

by Anonymousreply 30July 2, 2019 4:39 AM

My REVENGE at LAST

by Anonymousreply 31July 2, 2019 4:44 AM

R29 R30 There ARE other minorities out there as well who could be considered for the new James Bond.

by Anonymousreply 32July 2, 2019 4:48 AM

Bond is an actual character, with actual features, history, likes and dislikes. There is a canon of Bond books. He doesn't regenerate like Doctor Who.

Write something new and amazing for Idris. But to attempt to make him - or any black actor - into Fleming's Bond will ruin both the Bond franchise and that actor's career.

by Anonymousreply 33July 2, 2019 5:00 AM

[Quote] But to attempt to make him - or any black actor - into Fleming's Bond will ruin both the Bond franchise and that actor's career.

Ruin?? Really?? 🙄

by Anonymousreply 34July 2, 2019 5:26 AM

Yes. Really. Bond is a specific character.

Why can't there be an amazing new Black MI6 agent, with his own story, his own likes and dislikes, his own character, his own history, and make a huge series of movies about HIM?

by Anonymousreply 35July 2, 2019 5:48 AM

At least it won’t be hard to write her out.

by Anonymousreply 36July 2, 2019 6:23 AM

R22, she was great! That nonstop hula-hooping while singing -- wow!

by Anonymousreply 37July 2, 2019 6:53 AM

[quote]Roger Moore stayed on as Bond longer than he wanted to because the producers wouldn't look for a new actor.

Yeah, right.

Like if he refused to do it they wouldn’t have looked for another actor? He did it for one reason only: Money.

by Anonymousreply 38July 2, 2019 1:20 PM

You have to start blocking, r34. You wouldn't have even seen that foolishness if you had been blocking.

by Anonymousreply 39July 2, 2019 2:40 PM

I like Craig as 007. Pierce Brosnan was too much of a wimpy shrimp of a pussy boi! They should make fashion guru Kyan Douglas the next Bond. He'll have to work on his moobs and tummy, but he would be great!

by Anonymousreply 40July 2, 2019 3:07 PM

R38 Moore was contractually obligated to stay on until a new actor was found. He knew by Octopussy that he was already passed it, but the producers wouldn't replace him.

by Anonymousreply 41July 3, 2019 3:03 PM

She has been replaced by Prince Charles.

by Anonymousreply 42August 8, 2019 12:27 AM

Grace should be BOND!

by Anonymousreply 43August 8, 2019 12:31 AM

And what’s with this cannon shit??! Remember Judi Dench?!

by Anonymousreply 44August 8, 2019 12:32 AM

On a big budget film, you generally sign a contract before you arrive on set. I don't think Grace can treat this like a concert she could blow off back in the day.

And they didn't show her a script before she came?

Doesn't add up.

by Anonymousreply 45August 8, 2019 12:41 AM

r45 there may have been script changes between the time she signed on and then showed up for filming, resulting in less lines and screen time than she had originally anticipated.

by Anonymousreply 46August 8, 2019 12:45 AM

Grace is perfect.

by Anonymousreply 47August 8, 2019 1:06 AM

R43 You're a troll. A 71 year old actress playing James Bond? Get back on your meds.

by Anonymousreply 48August 8, 2019 6:45 AM

When Bond actors threaten to leave the Bond franchise it's all a salary negotiation ploy. I believe the only time it backfired was with Pierce Brosnan who didn't get what he wanted, but then there were other problems that put a stop to the Bond franchise for a little while.

by Anonymousreply 49August 8, 2019 7:56 AM

Somewhat off topic, but contrary to some opinions, I liked Timothy Dalton as Bond.

by Anonymousreply 50August 8, 2019 9:23 AM

She always was one ugly bitch, and that sex scene she had with Roger Moore was hilarious.

The best part of that bond movie she did is when she finally got blown up on the railway cart.

by Anonymousreply 51August 8, 2019 9:50 AM

I'm already hating that they're killing off Madeleine Swann in this next Bond. The Broccolis are killing off all the women James Bond loved - Tracy, M, Vesper Lynd and now Madeleine.

by Anonymousreply 52August 8, 2019 3:53 PM

r50, The Living Daylights is probably one of the best Bond films, but Licence To Kill is probably the worst since it didn't feel like a Bond movie (with him going full on rogue and it was visually more violent than all the others).

by Anonymousreply 53August 8, 2019 7:53 PM

Calling Faye Dunaway! White courtesy telephone, please!

by Anonymousreply 54August 8, 2019 8:19 PM

R50 - I think Timothy Dalton peaked with Sextette

by Anonymousreply 55August 9, 2019 1:52 AM

Why didn't they send her a script first? Idiocy!

by Anonymousreply 56August 9, 2019 2:19 AM

R56 - someone upthread said that she did have the script already, but there had been some rewrites since then and her part was reduced from the original script she read. I mean, that does happen. Even to legit film actors who work far more regularly than she does. I think she should have swallowed her pride and still done it... she would have gotten so much buzz for it and probably sold a bunch more concert tickets off of the millions of dollars of worth of earned media her appearance would have generated.

by Anonymousreply 60August 9, 2019 4:04 AM

Can't she be replaced by Duchess Sparkles?

by Anonymousreply 61August 9, 2019 10:50 AM

Her documentary was among the worst I've ever seen, and I've seen many.

by Anonymousreply 62August 9, 2019 11:29 AM

i've liked Craig in the role...but for some reason I have no desire to see him after one or two films. Casino Royale was excellent but he is way too inelegant for the part. Idris would be amazing.

by Anonymousreply 63August 9, 2019 11:39 AM

I don't believe she had a substantial role. It was probably something like Madonna's cameo in the one with Halle Berry.

by Anonymousreply 64August 9, 2019 1:01 PM

Her ego is bigger than her talent.

by Anonymousreply 65August 9, 2019 1:29 PM

She was always a talentless skank. I can’t understand why some of the dumb queens on here seem to worship her. Furthermore, she also worked as a prostitute during her early years when she was first starting out ( though why anyone would pay to sleep with her is beyond me ).

by Anonymousreply 66August 9, 2019 1:41 PM

[quote] ( though why anyone would pay to sleep with her is beyond me ).

Similar to your grasp of the use of your parentheses r66.

by Anonymousreply 67August 9, 2019 1:43 PM

We love Grace.

by Anonymousreply 68August 9, 2019 1:47 PM

They went out of their way for her accommodations just for a brief cameo? Yeah probably deviation from the original script. I can understand her frustration. They should’ve at least gave her a heads up.

by Anonymousreply 69August 9, 2019 1:58 PM

I like Craig in the role a lot but Casino Royale is still the only good Bond film he’s done. Skyfall was ok if you totally shut your brain off (the plot makes shockingly little sense) but the other two are cringe bad.

by Anonymousreply 70August 9, 2019 2:25 PM

Grace needs to sing the next Bond theme.

by Anonymousreply 71August 9, 2019 6:12 PM

R71 She's 71 not sure if her pipes are up for it plus she was never a great singer.

by Anonymousreply 72August 9, 2019 6:16 PM

She has the range.

by Anonymousreply 73August 9, 2019 7:39 PM

[quote] I think she should have swallowed her pride and still done it...

LOL. That's not Grace Jones' brand. Burning down the entire film set would be more her thing.

by Anonymousreply 74August 9, 2019 7:40 PM

That's true, R74, but she's definitely mellowed in her old age, R74. The idea of her recording a Bond tune at this point is ridiculous. But she certainly remains a fantastic live performer. Seen her in concert a couple of times in the US since 2009 and she has undeniable stage presence and still sang very well. No, she's not a powerhouse vocalist, she never was, but she was still impressive.

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 75August 10, 2019 2:46 AM

Agree r66. She’s an idiot and her whole persona is idiotic. Never understood why people found her so fabulous. She’s like a she-male carved out of wood with only one facial expression, “fierce”.

by Anonymousreply 76August 10, 2019 3:42 AM

That's OK--the studios are hammering at Grace's door with other offers!

by Anonymousreply 77August 10, 2019 4:12 AM

[quote] Furthermore, she also worked as a prostitute during her early years when she was first starting out

So.... ???

by Anonymousreply 78August 10, 2019 4:16 AM

"Roger Moore stayed on as Bond longer than he wanted to because the producers wouldn't look for a new actor.

Daniel Craig is staying on as long as he can and won't give the producers a chance to find a new actor."

R8 The only reason why producers stick to the same actor is money, not laziness. Craig has proven to be a box office draw in the Bond films so why would they take a chance on new face while the old one is still willing and able.

by Anonymousreply 79September 6, 2019 10:34 PM

What you people and dozens of other Dataloungers know about Grace Jones isn't good enough.

Somebody had to make a new thread covering ALL of this old info!
