I've been watching reruns and for the life of me I don't understand how this became a classic. It's huge with millennials too. The only decent characters were Joey and Rachel. When I used to watch I didn't like Phoebe, but now I cringe whenever Ross comes on! He was so corny and such a whiney, annoying dweeb. Rachel should've ended up with Joey and Monica and Chandler should've never happened. Monica was also more annoying then I remembered. Cox and Schwimmer were the weakest links acting wise. These actors need to thank their lucky stars.
The show Friends

The show is horrible. Lisa Kudrow is the only one who has had an interesting career after with The Comeback, which I think was brilliant.

Thanks for letting us know, OP. We've all been waiting to hear what you think about this.

It was a shitty show but it was very popular who people who fantasized about living the kind of life that the "Friends" did, which seemed to consist of nothing but sex and leisure.

For me, Seinfeld was/is far superior, but when you hear people talk about 90s TV, Friends always seems to be more popular.

I was in college when Friends was the show everyone was watching. The entire dorm would drop everything. It was literally must-see TV. Now, I try to watch it and am shocked by how awful it is. The actors were attractive but not very talented, and the writing was substandard. I don't know why so many young people went nuts over this crap.

" I don't know why so many young people went nuts over this crap."
They wanted to live the life of the characters, which looked very pleasant indeed. Their way of living was very attractive, and young people coveted it. It looked so PERFECT.

It was huge in the UK & China as well. It really was all about sex and pretending they had financial problems. Phoebe complaining about how she can't afford to go to a restaurant with Monica and chandler while she's wearing $1,000 in layered clothing, jewelry and salon hair. They all had tons of clothing - where did they keep it? They wore different, new clothes every single day. Every day.
Courtney Cox has a cartoon voice. I realized this when I was waiting for another tv show to come on and a Friends rerun was airing. Courtney was wearing a fat suit, playing her younger self. When her voice came out of that fat suit I thought she was deliberately making a funny cartoon voice. But later in the show she wasn't wearing the suit and her voice was the same.
Jennifer Anniston had a different hairstyle/color every week.

Fat Monica was likeable, thin Monica was a cunt.

It had an unwavering perfect sitcom structure - 3 stories, 3 scenes for each story. The main story, the subplot, and the amuse-bouche. The latter took up maybe 2 minutes at most. It would have some device like gag, counter-gag. I think the show is 22 minutes? I think the writers had it down to a factory type output but it was very well done and entertaining.

R3 of course they worked! Monica wore a chef costume several times and Ross was seen in front of a museum display twice and...Rachel had an apron on while she sat on the couch at Central Perk
