Is it on the lips or on the cheek? The reason I ask is that I’m used to gay men giving an air kiss and hug if the friendship is close, but often now it seems like the kisses are on the lips. That’s very intimate, is that a newer phenomenon? Maybe I’m just noticing it and it was always this way. I’m more of an air kisser although I do like a nice sturdy hug.
Gay men- do you greet your friends with a kiss?

My younger gay friends (under 40) will hug, at most. Older gay friends (50+) will do the air kiss thing. Younger gay men seem not affectionate at all, and emotionally walled off, generally.

A hug is fine.

I have a standing order with all my gay friends - I do not hug or kiss upon meeting or departing. If they attempt I will acquiesce at times, but I tell them in in a light hearted way that about my rule to bring them around. I tell them to think of me as The Queen.

My ex did this. I told him I wasn't comfortable with it and he stopped doing it (at least in front of me). His friends protested and started ostracizing me.
We weren't compatible.

To me it comes off as an affectation as opposed to sincere.

I'll kiss a boyfriend, hug my close friends, and wave to everyone else. I don't kiss or air kiss anyone other than the individual I'm involved with, so currently no one.
