Why do some Caucasians have thicker lips than others?

So overall most Caucasians are thin lipped, but some fortunate ones are blessed with thicker lips. Are there any theories to this? I know Europeans come mainly from Middle Eastern Neolithic farmers, Hunter Gatherers, and Eurasian Steppe people.

I don't think thin lips are bad. They look nice on plenty of men. Women... Whatever. Not so great on them.

by Anonymousreply 1June 23, 2019 8:21 AM

Fillers?

by Anonymousreply 2June 23, 2019 8:29 AM

Racial slur!

by Anonymousreply 3June 23, 2019 8:32 AM

I'm white (caucasian) but I have big lips. Don't know why. I've just always had bigger lips than most people.

by Anonymousreply 4June 23, 2019 8:33 AM

Possibly they have more Neanderthal DNA.

by Anonymousreply 5June 23, 2019 9:37 AM

In my case, I think it is the Presley genes making an appearance (or at least that is what my sister said).

by Anonymousreply 6June 23, 2019 11:06 AM

Just 1 of my 4 older sisters has very thick lips. I have thin lips.

by Anonymousreply 7June 23, 2019 11:25 AM

They're related to Mick Jagger.

by Anonymousreply 8June 23, 2019 11:39 AM

Really, OP?

by Anonymousreply 9June 23, 2019 11:54 AM

I'm a white guy, and I've always had full lips. I didn't give it much thought until I got older, and realized how many men have thin lips. Full lips made it much more fun when I'd play with my Mom's makeup.

by Anonymousreply 10June 23, 2019 2:01 PM

I won’t entertain any gentlemen callers with thin lips. A non-negotiable deal breaker for me.

by Anonymousreply 11June 23, 2019 2:29 PM

Many Arabs have thin lips as well. I think this is an adaptation for the desert climate.

by Anonymousreply 12June 23, 2019 3:55 PM

bump

by Anonymousreply 13June 23, 2019 5:53 PM

Thin lips means your ancestors didn’t diddle “the help”. Caucasians with naturally tan skin fall into this category as well.

by Anonymousreply 14June 23, 2019 5:57 PM

R14 I have no clue what that means

by Anonymousreply 15June 23, 2019 5:59 PM

Yes r15, you really do have no clue

by Anonymousreply 16June 23, 2019 6:04 PM

[quote]So overall most Caucasians are thin lipped

It depends where you grow up / what language you speak and more importantly : how you speak the language.

i.e. French people in France have thinner lips because they hold their mouth tighter when they speak. French Canadians have bigger lips because they speak more "loosely".

In England people have much stronger jaws than English speaking people overseas because they hold their jaw tighter when they speak as opposed to people in the U.S. or Canada for example.

Japanese people have big lips because they barely move their mouth when they speak, it's mostly internal / tongue and not lips. You can say entire sentences without moving your jaw if you want to or at least very, very subtly.

And I'd say that overall, caucasian people do not have thin lips. That's more-so the exception.

Luscious lips.

Men grow cold as boys grow old.

And we all loose our lips in the end

r17's theory is insane.

by Anonymousreply 20June 23, 2019 6:21 PM

That's what I was taught in my second languages classes by the Europeans that were teaching them, R20.

by Anonymousreply 21June 23, 2019 6:25 PM

I have a friend who is of German and Irish ancestry and she has very full lips.

by Anonymousreply 22June 23, 2019 6:25 PM

Thin lips are a sign of congenital alcohol syndrome. Your momma was a drunk

by Anonymousreply 23June 23, 2019 6:26 PM

R14 What do you mean by 'the help'. I don't like it when people on DL are unnecessarily vague.

by Anonymousreply 24June 23, 2019 6:49 PM

I would think that the climate extremes and how it can get bitter cold in Central Asia would mean that those with a lot of steppe ancestry have thinner lips. Not sure about the neolithic farmers though.

by Anonymousreply 25June 23, 2019 7:53 PM

Thank Dog DL has so many accomplished ethnologists and geneticists.

by Anonymousreply 26June 23, 2019 8:03 PM

I’m British/Irish and French -German and I love my full lips. I’m as white as they come but tan very well. People mistake me for all kinds of different ethnicities though which is weird. Everyone in my family is dark haired and dark eyed.

by Anonymousreply 27June 23, 2019 8:31 PM

What R17 said about the French language is true, some words you have to stretch your lips out to a smile to pronounce certain words correctly.

by Anonymousreply 28June 23, 2019 8:34 PM

Lip skin does not have sweat glands, so it doesn't have a protective layer of sweat or oils to keep the skin smooth and regulate warmth. Therefore, the lips get chapped quite easily, especially in dry climates with very little humidity. Thus, Caucasians and Asians living far north in extreme cold conditions evolved to be thin-lipped, while their counterparts closer to the equator with high humidity developed fuller lips. Since Caucasians are not a homogenous race, there is a wide range of lip sizes, just as there are a wide variety of hair and eye color, shade of skin, height and body type.

[quote] That's what I was taught in my second languages classes by the Europeans that were teaching them

Oh, sorry, I didn't know it was a EUROPEAN theory. That changes everything.

by Anonymousreply 30June 23, 2019 9:13 PM

They were Europeans describing how people speak in Europe and how that affects your appearance, R30.

by Anonymousreply 31June 23, 2019 9:18 PM

Interesting when whites talk about minorities, they call them “thick lips.”

When whites talk about other whites, they are called “full lips.”

by Anonymousreply 32June 23, 2019 9:22 PM

R29 Interesting

by Anonymousreply 33June 23, 2019 9:36 PM

R11 = Blanche DuBois

by Anonymousreply 34June 24, 2019 12:44 PM

I want to talk about Tom Hardy.

by Anonymousreply 35June 24, 2019 12:59 PM

R15 I think R14 is talking about white "masters" and black "servants," but he expresses whatever it is very ambiguously. Probably indicative of his mental (in)capacity.

by Anonymousreply 36June 24, 2019 1:11 PM

R24, He means somebody fucked a slave at one point so white people with fuller lips have them because there is a little black ancestry in their DNA.

by Anonymousreply 37June 24, 2019 1:23 PM

For gorgeous thick lips, young Brando, esp his screen test, c.1948

by Anonymousreply 38June 24, 2019 1:25 PM

Iblnew exactly what r14 meant.

by Anonymousreply 39June 24, 2019 1:35 PM

You blew R14?
