I chortle when I see a fancy car parked in front of a crummy house in a poor neighborhood.

there are certain hoods that have lots of those.

In LA, people live in their cars.

It's the American way.

Let's show something fake on the surface, even if the true underpinnings are a total lie.

A lux vehicle??? A car made of soap isn't very practical... Oh dear.. You meant a luxe vehicle... Well, obviously, you don't have a luxe vocabulary....

There's two basic types of people who do this: 1) Poor people who throw away what little money they have on a showy car, and 2) "Gearhead" car freaks.

The former are trying to deny the reality of poverty and are making themselves poorer by managing their money badly.

The latter really don't care about much of anything but cars, so all of their money, attention, and love goes into the car. Their social lives may be built around their hobby, they hang out with other guys who talk about nothing but customizing or restoring cars, or what cars they're going to buy next, debating the merits of cars they can't afford, or attending car festivals. There's a whole insane subculture out there.

There is a third group - Indian guys who can afford a regular car, but lease a Mercedes or other $100K car to impress their family in India. Meanwhile they bitch all day that they have no money left after food, rent and car payment.

No more insane than grown men endlessly and inanely discussing the careers of Janet Jackson vs. Madonna.

I CAN afford it and I still don't see the point. I just want safe, reliable transportation. I don't need to show off.
