by Anonymousreply 31June 20, 2019 5:36 AM

Paul Mercurio from "Strictly Ballroom." So stunning in that movie but his looks faded quickly. Even in "Exit To Eden" I thought he was puffy looking. Maybe it's an Aussie thing to lose your looks earlier than most (many Australian men mentioned already.)

by Anonymousreply 34June 20, 2019 6:09 AM

Same OP!! And r32 also, wow, that was hard to see. Years ago when I went to Australia so many men looked mediocre. I figured they exported the rare handsome ones they had.

by Anonymousreply 35June 20, 2019 6:36 AM

R32 - I was always amazed at how quickly Mercurio lots his looks and became puffy and bloated - till I met a guy...

He too had been a young dancer at the Sydney Dance Company - around the time of Mercurio or soon after - and the framed photos he had of himself from that time on the wall were amazing! Soooooo cute and hot and tight- bodied!

But when he was like that - he was full of young man hormones - and was effectively exercising 8-10 hours a day, five or six days a week. After his mid twenties - he left the company - started his own dance school interstate. And stopped exercising at that level. But he still ate as if he was working out 8-10 hours a day. With inevitable results. And it just got worse as the years went by, hard to believe it was the same guy.

Seen this happen with young Olympians and other professional athletes. when all the exercise stops -their appetites don't necessarily follow. Swimmers especially! (Cough - Ian Thorpe - cough!)

It's almost a form of abuse to train these young athletes and dancers and not include a post career plan that talks about changes to their metabolism, Etc. Lack of responsibility from the higher ups in charge!

I've never heard of Paul Mercurio before, but holy fuck. Why does life have to be so cruel? He was stunning when young. Now he's a fat slob. (Christopher Schwarzenegger, I'm looking at you.)

by Anonymousreply 50June 20, 2019 9:24 AM

But, R44 then he lost them BIG time.

by Anonymousreply 51June 20, 2019 9:29 AM

r50 A movie critic described young John Travolta as "the handsomest inhabitant of the Planet of the Apes". I agree with that statement.

by Anonymousreply 63June 20, 2019 5:42 PM

I second Leo D. Although I'd say he was still very good-looking in The Beach. What made him so unattractive in that movie were his mannerisms and facial expressions. It's almost like he was trying to make himself appear ugly. He REALLY lost his looks between The Aviator and The Departed. Due to heavy drinking and smoking I guess.

[quote] Maybe it's an Aussie thing to lose your looks earlier than most

It's probably all that sun they're exposed to down under. I noticed that Chris Hemsworth is already starting to look somewhat leathery. I still find him good-looking, but I wouldn't have thought that he's only 35. He seems to spend a lot of time at Australian beaches.

Bradley Cooper

[quote]I think Alain Delon kept his looks longer than most.

The ethereal beauty was gone in just a few years. Hard living. He was still attractive, but not the same.

by Anonymousreply 67June 20, 2019 7:32 PM

Mel Gibson got the face he deserved

by Anonymousreply 68June 20, 2019 7:35 PM

Gerard Butler. He was still somewhat hot when he starred in that Jennifer Aniston movie. His looks rapidly declined after that.

by Anonymousreply 69June 20, 2019 7:39 PM

[quote]The ethereal beauty was gone in just a few years

Ethereal beauty usually only lasts a very short time sadly. Until 25 or maybe 30 at best.

by Anonymousreply 70June 20, 2019 7:57 PM

R70 unless you’re Matt Bomer

by Anonymousreply 71June 20, 2019 8:39 PM

I wish I'd known enough to go and see plays at Carnegie Mellon when he was a student. I live in an adjacent zip code, and try to see all their plays now, but I didn't know then about the drama school. Or didn't care. Maybe that's it.

by Anonymousreply 76June 20, 2019 9:44 PM

Rob Lowe but it took him a while.

Tim Daily held it together for a long time.

But both of them are pretty old now. Although Dylan McDermott was still looking great at 50.

[quote]I wish I'd known enough to go and see plays at Carnegie Mellon when he was a student. I live in an adjacent zip code, and try to see all their plays now, but I didn't know then about the drama school. Or didn't care. Maybe that's it.

Well R72, most people weren't going to see the plays there back then. On one hand the camera makes people beautiful, on the other hand (with Matthew Bomer), he always stood out. He was also exceptionally kind to everyone back then and I think that's part of the reason he still looks great. I think that sort of thing keeps people looking good.

by Anonymousreply 77June 21, 2019 6:06 AM

And it doesn't hurt to have a portrait in the attic.

by Anonymousreply 78June 21, 2019 6:25 AM

by Anonymousreply 82June 21, 2019 11:34 AM

Julian Sands. Corey Haim (I know, he's dead). Christopher Atkins. Dermot Mulroney

by Anonymousreply 83June 21, 2019 12:21 PM

Joan Fontaine lots her looks within weeks after starting in the business. Very fat in the face. Quick, sad fade.

by Anonymousreply 84June 21, 2019 12:26 PM

Zac Efron

by Anonymousreply 85June 24, 2019 1:42 PM

Abe Vigoda

by Anonymousreply 86June 24, 2019 2:03 PM

I think Robert Downey Jr. looks fine. He looks his age, but he is not unattractive.

Tommy Lee Jones certainly aged, but never entirely lost his appeal for me - which had more to do with his voice and bodily presence. De Niro is somewhat the same.

I always thought Keith Gordon was more beautiful than either female lead in "Dressed to Kill". That didn't last long. Consistently good actor, though.

by Anonymousreply 87June 24, 2019 2:26 PM

Gene Shalit.

by Anonymousreply 88June 24, 2019 3:04 PM

Sean Astin. I'm same age as him and used to wank to his teenie bopper mag layouts when I was like 15-16. Now I feel kinda bad and awkward admitting that because in retrospect we know that those mags and the boys in them were exploited by a bunch of evil pedophile closet case assholes. But now he looks like a fat, tired plumber and has since his 20s, so at least the evil pedophile closet case assholes lost interest and left him alone.

by Anonymousreply 89July 10, 2019 5:32 PM

Edward Furlong

by Anonymousreply 90July 10, 2019 5:34 PM

Henry Cavill. His hair and skin always look so dry now.

R92 Yes please. Hot damn.

by Anonymousreply 93July 11, 2019 1:43 AM

Cary Elwes looked pretty good in the recent Stranger Things.

by Anonymousreply 94July 11, 2019 2:06 AM

I barely recognized Elwes. Man he was gorgeous in Princess Bride, I wanked enthusiastically to him when I was 14 or so. He's still great though, love him in ST.

by Anonymousreply 95July 11, 2019 2:11 AM

Jeremy Sisto was so incredibly hot.

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 96July 11, 2019 2:18 AM

Cary Elwes recently lost some weight and looks...better. Better, at least, than last 15 years when he got very bloated.

by Anonymousreply 97July 11, 2019 2:18 AM

R96 For the longest time I thought he was Australian because he sounds like he has a slight Australian accent, so I was surprised when I learned he was born and raised in America.

In any case, he looks old for 44.

by Anonymousreply 98July 11, 2019 2:27 AM

Jonathan Rhys Meyers lost his preternatural beauty, understandably, quite young. He was still hot in his late 20's. But since then he's really wrecked himself.

by Anonymousreply 99July 11, 2019 2:33 AM

David Hemmings aged, sure, but he AGED. When seeing his name in the credits in Gladiator, I let out a silent scream upon seeing which character he played. So did my father, actually. We couldn't believe it.

by Anonymousreply 100July 11, 2019 2:43 AM

Brendan Fraser is the most tragic.

by Anonymousreply 101July 11, 2019 3:07 AM

I did not have a crush on him (not into twinks) but Macauley Culkin looks like the Cryptkeeper.

by Anonymousreply 102July 11, 2019 3:14 AM

Age is the enemy

by Anonymousreply 103July 11, 2019 4:07 AM

The guy who starred in the Gremlins films. Fapped to his substantial crotch bulge and boy next door face many times. Now he's a washed up middle aged blah with no career. Sad.

by Anonymousreply 104July 11, 2019 5:13 PM

C. Thomas Howell, plays a lot of character roles now and is nearly unrecognizable.

Timothy Hutton. So beautiful in Ordinary People. Now anonymous middle aged guy. Lost his looks young, too.

by Anonymousreply 106July 11, 2019 6:31 PM

Marc Singer

Jason Beghe

And yes...Alec Baldwin is the ultimate example. So hot and hunky in the 80s. Now he's gotten big and bloated.

by Anonymousreply 107July 11, 2019 6:39 PM

Second Gerard Butler and Brendan Fraser. They both had sort of handsome but somewhat rugged he-man looks in their primes. Now they just look rugged. Also David James Elliot (of JAG fame). These alterations of looks with age are strange to me, because, like everyone else on DL, I'm 60 but still get mistaken for 25.....LOL

by Anonymousreply 108July 11, 2019 7:20 PM

Alain Delon lost his looks? Guess what, he's 84, bitches, what the hell do you expect? He looks pretty damn good for a guy in the middle of his eigth decade. Could we all be so lucky.

by Anonymousreply 109July 11, 2019 9:07 PM

[quote]Jason Beghe

You're right. He used to be good looking, but he started looking awful about 10 years ago.

by Anonymousreply 110July 11, 2019 11:25 PM

The opposite of this thread. Cary Grant still had his looks even into his late 50's.

by Anonymousreply 111July 12, 2019 12:19 AM

Desi Arnaz, jr.

by Anonymousreply 112July 12, 2019 12:27 AM

Literally, r105. I watched SouthLAnd for weeks before I realized that grizzled old cop was C Thomas Howell.

by Anonymousreply 113July 16, 2019 9:29 PM

His role in the latest Bosch scene is much the same. He could be a grizzled old prospector from the Gold Rush days now.

C. Tom (I wonder what his friends call him).

[quote] Second Gerard Butler and Brendan Fraser. They both had sort of handsome but somewhat rugged he-man looks in their primes. Now they just look rugged.

Rugged would not be the word I'd use to describe either of them. Brendan was still relatively young when he began morphing into Rodney Dangerfield. Gerard was always more rugged than handsome, so he managed to hold onto his looks up until about seven years ago. Then, aging hit him fast and hard. He looks a good ten years older than his supposed 49 years. I remember reading a review of that movie he did with 50 Cent, and the writer described him as "looking like an angry Shar-Pei."

by Anonymousreply 123July 20, 2019 3:10 PM

I think some of you guys don't understand aging. Some of these guys still look fine, just older.

by Anonymousreply 124July 20, 2019 3:24 PM

Kevin Zegers? Really? Last time I saw him, he was still incredibly handsome. What is he? Mid 30's by now at the latest? He just doesn't look like a barely legal twink anymore. Why does DL think men are only attractive until 25? That's so sad.

I'm my experience, men can still be attractive well into their 50s and 60s if they take care of themselves.

by Anonymousreply 125July 20, 2019 3:30 PM
