What was the first concert you attended?

Mine was at Universal Amphitheater when it was still outdoors.

Neil Sedaka

with special guests

England Dan & John Ford Coley - Andrew Gold.

My parents and their friends took me because I loved ED&JFC. My Mom loved Neil and still does.

by Anonymousreply 4June 20, 2019 1:42 AM

R1 Same, Reba, and it was one hell of a show. Numerous costume changes and dancers. Also, she winked and smiled directly at me, I became a fan for LIFE! I had to be around 7 or 8.

by Anonymousreply 7June 20, 2019 1:47 AM

The Association, with Van Morrison and Them as the opener. It was some small venue in Framingham. It could have been either the Carousel, or Caeser's Monticello. My second was shortly after that: Donovan, at what was then called the Boston Music Hall. I remember my mom, who took me and my sister, complaining that so many people were smoking. I didn't realize until years later that she was upset they were smoking pot, not cigarettes.

Tina Turner, 1985 USAir Arena in Lanham Maryland

by Anonymousreply 13June 20, 2019 2:00 AM

R5 there was no show more entertaining in the 90s than a Reba concert. She upped it every year. It was like a Broadway show and a concert combined. Dancers, at least 10 costume changes, tons of lights, elaborate sets, fireworks and she once came out on stage in a mini Lear Jet. The stage spanned the whole arena in her ‘96 show and at the end she used a drag queen at one end of the stage to trick the audience and suddenly appear at the other end during the climax to Fancy, which she then rose and circulated the arena on a cherry picker. Only Tina Turner is as engaging a performer. See video here at 1:50 for the Fancy performance then.

The B-52's in 1983. They were fantastic and I became an instant lifelong fan.

by Anonymousreply 15June 20, 2019 2:08 AM

R14 I also remember the year she and Linda Davis rode a flying balcony over the audience while singing Does He Love You, sadly I don't think anyone has uploaded a video to youtube.

Randy Meisner sang his signature song "Take It to the Limit" and the crowd went nuts when he hit those high notes.

I was 17. Lots of sweet smoke in the air that night... good music, good times.

by Anonymousreply 30June 20, 2019 3:30 AM

by Anonymousreply 31June 20, 2019 3:31 AM

The Pretenders at the Agora in Cleveland, 1981. The original band. I saw Hynde's later bands a few times but it was never really the Pretenders to me without Honeyman-Scott and Farndon.

[quote] Randy Meisner sang his signature song "Take It to the Limit" and the crowd went nuts when he hit those high notes.

R30 , In "History of the Eagles," it's revealed that Glenn Frey and Randy Meisner fought over Meisner not wanting to sing "Take It to the Limit" (because it was so difficult with all of the high notes). Frey said, "Do you think I like singing 'Peaceful, Easy Feeling' every night?" That's an easier song to sing, though.

by Anonymousreply 46June 20, 2019 7:22 AM

My latest was Paul McCartney at Lambeau Field in Green Bay a couple of weekends ago.

The 50,000 aging fans made it seem like an AARP convention, but 77-year-old Sir Paul and his band still put on a good show.

by Anonymousreply 63June 20, 2019 5:17 PM

OP, my first concert was at the (outdoor) Universal Amphitheatre, too! George Benson, 1978. I was 11, went with my mom and a group of her friends from work. I asked to go because I LOVED the song "On Broadway"....which is a 10 minute jam, live. Blew my little mind. (if there was an opening act, I can't remember who it was).
