I appreciate these threads. Thanks OP.

by Anonymousreply 7June 18, 2019 2:04 AM

I'd say the obsessive freak is the one that has to come into a thread they claim to hate and say the same shit each and every time.

by Anonymousreply 8June 18, 2019 2:18 AM

I love you OP!

by Anonymousreply 9June 18, 2019 2:22 AM

by Anonymousreply 10June 18, 2019 3:36 AM

Thanks OP!

by Anonymousreply 11June 18, 2019 3:49 AM

Anyone else find it odd that the info about US cyberattack on Russian power grid is followed by Target going down and half of South America going dark?

by Anonymousreply 12June 18, 2019 3:56 AM

Could also be China though. They’ve done it too.

I kind of think wars with the superpowers in the future will be cutting off the heat in the dead of winter or the cooling in the hottest part of summer, or other grid related issues. For example, cut the power to water treatment plants. A whole bunch of people could die from that or become very sick. There could be epidemics of typhus or cholera.

Imagine having a whole war where everybody stays at home.

by Anonymousreply 13June 18, 2019 4:08 AM

Thank you OP. On her thread yesterday Muriel confirmed the presence of a small but dedicated number of foreign (not necessarily Russian) trolls on DL who use this as a practicing ground for wide messaging, devising ways to divide us.

Be vigilant. Block liberally.

by Anonymousreply 14June 18, 2019 4:11 AM

r14 Yep, we've noticed it. I say we do a damn good job calling them out. It is esp satisfying when we all block them. They give up when we don't respond because they realize we cannot see them.

Does Pres Bone Spurs really think it is going to be in office past inauguration day, 2021? Bitch, please.

by Anonymousreply 15June 18, 2019 4:15 AM

Do you have a link to that R14? I must have missed it.

by Anonymousreply 16June 18, 2019 4:15 AM

If you look at the posting patterns of certain trolls (not many, but I've noticed a few), they'll spend time aggressively pushing provocative button-pushing statements in completely opposite directions - e.g., aggressively calling for gun control, then aggressively pushing NRA talking points about gun ownership.

Stirring shit is what they do.

by Anonymousreply 17June 18, 2019 4:18 AM

But, if they are posting here, practicing their bullshit, aren't we helping them perfect their attacks for 2020 by reacting in any way, including blocking? Ignore them so they won't know what's working and what's not.

by Anonymousreply 18June 18, 2019 4:26 AM

r17 Yes, and they are really about downing certain candidates, pushing either a far left or moderate platform and saying they won't vote for the Dem unless they get their way. Then, the best but most obvious (yet they still use it) always resort to bothsiderism.

by Anonymousreply 19June 18, 2019 4:26 AM

r16, it was amazing as Muriel has shown herself to be the the all powerful one and closed the thread when she said. It was a good chat if not for the Bellagio incident and Vivian Vance freaks.

see R-12 at the below thread.

by Anonymousreply 20June 18, 2019 4:32 AM

Muriel is correct. (Of course). We do a great job here but I wonder if it is smart to block them as she said the things said here are used to create a narrative about what other sites are saying. Not that I want to get into a flame war with these freaks but some push back? Or at least a "Sure, Jan"?

Btw- I am not going to DC as planned right now. I was able to work from home for the next few weeks and my friends said there is a "four alarm situation" going on and "all hands on deck" are needed. We rescheduled for early Aug. The only scoop I have, and I think I have already shared this, is Pres Bone Spurs will likely ditch Pence for a woman and the candidates are Blackburn, Haley, Ernst right now. Haley is actually the most enthused.

by Anonymousreply 21June 18, 2019 4:46 AM

That sets up an interesting scenario of Pence knowing he is going to be replaced at the same time Trump may be impeached. He could replace Trump and run himself, AND not pardon him.

by Anonymousreply 22June 18, 2019 4:50 AM

Assuming the grids are in place and Trump will win once again because the ballot boxes in certain states will be hacked and the final tallies changed - (sorry for the run-on sentence) - why doesn't he just have darling Ivanka as his running mate for VP?

What the hell????

by Anonymousreply 23June 18, 2019 4:53 AM

R12 I thought it was strange that the New York Times article about both US and Russia having the ability to shut down each other's power grids corresponded to all of Argentina and some neighboring countries losing their power. There are no coincidences. The two are related. Either Russia wanted to show the US that it could take down large scale power operations or the US wanted to show Russia that we too have the technology to shut down power grids. It was definitely a demonstration for someone's benefit.

by Anonymousreply 24June 18, 2019 4:55 AM

And I agree about the scenario of a war where no one leaves their houses. Grids are shut down, water supply cut. It nightmarish and a real possibility.

That said, that is why we need Dems in the WH and in charge of Congress.

by Anonymousreply 25June 18, 2019 5:01 AM

FCI - I don't know if Trump would actually make any gains by selecting a woman as VP. Evangelicals love Pence. It might dampen their enthusiasm if Pence isn't on the ticket. There was a lot of chatter about Obama replacing Biden with Hillary during the 2012 election and that lead to nothing. Blackburn and Ernst have a bit of the Sarah Palin going for them. Not the sharpest tool in the shed.

by Anonymousreply 26June 18, 2019 5:01 AM

r26 It is just chatter and he is locked in with evangelicals. Pence is not even a factor now. Their love is for the top guy (man baby). So, it would actually help, even if juuuuust a bit, with woman. Those are the early names but Haley was a shock as being very enthusiastic. She is hungry. I think Ernst was next as far as wanting it. IA is important to him to win.

Politics change in an instant. This is just the latest chatter. But I've heard this for awhile. He seems hellbent on changing VP's. Pence would just move to a cabinet position, from what I heard.

by Anonymousreply 27June 18, 2019 5:07 AM

Fat boy Barr has intervened to keep Paul Manafort out of Rikers Island prison. When Trump says shit, Barr says what color would you like, sir.

by Anonymousreply 28June 18, 2019 5:14 AM

Call me crazy but I would love to backdoor Pence.

by Anonymousreply 29June 18, 2019 5:15 AM

r28 Such bullshit.

by Anonymousreply 30June 18, 2019 5:15 AM

No one is rushing out to call Jim Carrey a liar

by Anonymousreply 31June 18, 2019 5:18 AM

Oddly, when I was at the gas station today, they were problems getting their cash registers and gas pumps to work.

It wasn't an electric outage or anything. I have to wonder if these are random "attacks" to see just how much problems hostile entities could cause.

by Anonymousreply 32June 18, 2019 5:25 AM

I think the next WW will be a true WW in which we all feel it. It will affect our grid and water and food supply. This is why I don't trust the GOP to be in charge of our govt.

by Anonymousreply 33June 18, 2019 5:31 AM

I really need to get a generator or some solar panels in place.

by Anonymousreply 34June 18, 2019 5:35 AM

R20 thanks for the link that was pretty interesting.

I do disagree with one thing said though. I think quite often you CAN tell when someone is a particular troll. If you pay attention to language and sentence structure, sometimes it's easy. There was never mistaking PMBT. You could always tell who it was even when he didn't sign his name.

by Anonymousreply 35June 18, 2019 5:39 AM

I think trolls are easy to spot even when they try to blend in.

I agree it does cut down on individuality but in a time of war, and we are in a war, I'm not sorry. We are often right 99 out of 100 times about who the trolls are.

by Anonymousreply 36June 18, 2019 6:11 AM

There are so many stupid people in Florida that they will go for the show. Half of those people do not even vote...they are just ignorant, racist fools.

by Anonymousreply 37June 18, 2019 8:57 AM

So Orlando doesn't care that he stiffs every city in which he has his Hitler-like rallies? WTF is wrong with these places, that they can blow money on this shit show?

by Anonymousreply 38June 18, 2019 10:03 AM

Morning Joe is good this morning.

by Anonymousreply 39June 18, 2019 10:14 AM

Wait - there's a site called isitfunnyoroffensive.com? (where OP's pic is from)

Like it couldn't be both?

by Anonymousreply 40June 18, 2019 10:25 AM

Off topic, but I just saw the thread in which Muriel revealed herself. I'm so glad she specifically called out the assholish posters who are constantly claiming this site is slowly dying because of dwindling traffic.

by Anonymousreply 41June 18, 2019 10:40 AM

Yes, R41. I was impressed with the numbers.

by Anonymousreply 42June 18, 2019 11:00 AM

when something large like Target goes down I figure it is another country testing to see if they can do it so they will be ready for the big one.

we aren't too smart with what we put on a grid either. A relative went to McDonald's for a chocolate shake and the machine was down so she went to another one. Their machine was also down. She went to a 3rd one and the same thing. She gave up and went to Burger King and the Same problem. She asked are all you guys on the same grid that all your machines are down at the same time. The response was "maybe"

by Anonymousreply 43June 18, 2019 11:05 AM

R14, you forgot to mention that Muriel also specifically said that the Former Congressional Intern is a fake.

by Anonymousreply 44June 18, 2019 12:30 PM

[quote]Former Congressional Intern is a fake

Seriously?

by Anonymousreply 45June 18, 2019 12:49 PM

This thing must go.

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 46June 18, 2019 12:53 PM

R43 I posted about the Argentina power outage but had forgotten that all of the Target stores went down at about the same time as well. Again, I don't believe in coincidences. It was most likely some foreign power trying to exercise their muscle. We'll most likely never know for certain as both countries and companies don't want to admit that their systems are compromised. They would rather blame it on a faulty transformer or switch somewhere. Citizen journalists have to try to connect the dots and try to put truth out there.

by Anonymousreply 47June 18, 2019 1:27 PM

R43, I'm not into conspiracy theory's , but I do believe that these outages are the work of foreign powers messing with our country. I am getting worried about what might happen when we vote in 2020. This is war. Not with guns and bombs, but war nonetheless, and our country is not doing anything to protect us.

by Anonymousreply 48June 18, 2019 1:55 PM

We had a power outage last night! Lasted 7 hours! We probably haven't had one in at least 10 years!

by Anonymousreply 49June 18, 2019 1:55 PM

[QUOTE] [R14], you forgot to mention that Muriel also specifically said that the Former Congressional Intern is a fake

I really don’t believe this at all and suggest you bring quotes from that Muriel thread to back it up. I’m the guy who lives in the same building as the dueling Manafort-related accountants and everything FCI has said chimes in with stuff I’ve heard from friends on the Hill and my own sources here in the District.

So, like I said, back that shit up with evidence.

by Anonymousreply 50June 18, 2019 2:01 PM

Votes for Impeachment. I think it is strange that people say that Nancy Polosi doesn't support impeachment because she doesn't have the votes for impeachment. I understand that she doesn't have the votes in the Senate to actually remove Trump after impeachment but she has enough dems in the House to actually impeach Trump. Thus far, approximately 60 representatives have come out in support of impeachment hearings. It is a bit of a self fulfilling prophecy. She doesn't have the votes because she doesn't support it. If she supported impeachment hearings, all the democrats would follow in suit and support impeachment hearings.

by Anonymousreply 51June 18, 2019 2:02 PM

In DC, @JoyReid asks @JoeBiden how he'll get his agenda past Mitch McConnell.

"I know you're one of the ones who thinks it's naive to say we have to work together," Biden tells her, before pitching his powers of persuasion.

"You can shame people to do things the right way."

This is why Joe Biden shouldn't be the Democratic Nominee. Obama couldn't shame Mitch into getting Merrick Garland confirmed and Joe can't shame him into shit either. Biden needs to go sing Kumbaya with somebody else.

by Anonymousreply 52June 18, 2019 2:07 PM

R51 is a troll. Check out its very careful, slightly too formal, sentence structure and repetition of the word "impeach." It's a classic Divisive Troll.

by Anonymousreply 53June 18, 2019 2:08 PM

R53 I'm no more of troll than you. I just have opinions. I'm about a liberal through and through. Huge Hillary supporter and Obama supporter. This go around I think Kamala Harris or Elizabeth Warren would make a great nominee. Go fuck yourself!!! How's that for sentence structure.

by Anonymousreply 54June 18, 2019 2:13 PM

Okay, R54, let’s talk about this. “I’m a liberal!” and “I supported Obama!” are classic signs of trollism on DL. Also, “go-around” requires a hyphen (I’m sure Google translate forgot to add one for you) and your last sentence is a question which requires a question mark. You cannot even believably portray an American, let alone some liberal Hillary voter. Please.

by Anonymousreply 55June 18, 2019 2:20 PM

yeah, then say positive stuff about the candidates you like without trashing other democrats.

Just say you like Warren and leave it at that. We don’t need to know who you hate.

Vote for ANYBODY but the maniacal blimp we have now.

by Anonymousreply 56June 18, 2019 2:25 PM

R55 Suck my big, Russian, uncut dick while I sip my Stoli! (Command sentence which can end with or without an exclamation point). I chose exclamation point because you're a big cunt.

by Anonymousreply 57June 18, 2019 2:30 PM

R52 I cannot begin to describe how angry Biden's logic makes me! He was the fucking VP for 8 years. He came from the Senate. He understood how it worked, and he knew those guys. WTF can he possibly do now that he couldn't have done then. Yes. He was not POTUS. But fuck all if he could have "shamed" them into action back then. He knows who he is dealing with and he is either delusional or he's blowing smoke up our asses.

By the way. I hope one day Howard Dean is acknowledged for all the good work he's done. He was the guy who gave us a 50 state strategy in 2006 and Won back Congress, he was a brilliant Chair of the DNC, he understood the power of the internet before anyone else did, and he introduced us to his numbers guy, Joe Trippi who'safucking genius.

The media needs to take out their long knives and really go after McConnell, and destroy him the way they went after Howard Dean, and Hillary. They are so fucking focused on Pelosi, they ignore the nasty bastard and his minions. Our marching orders for the foreseeable future ought to be go on Twitter and Facebook, and start ranting about McConnell to the media. Individual reporters too.

by Anonymousreply 58June 18, 2019 2:33 PM

Yes, R56. I cringe every time I hear one of the Democrats criticize one of their own. I imagine it plays right into Trump's tiny, little hands and he is loving it. I wish the Democrats would stop eating their own and concentrate on the one thing they all have in common, defeating Trump.

by Anonymousreply 59June 18, 2019 2:33 PM

R56 That's what the trolls on here and Twitter are good at doing, although I will say I've seen enough people that I know do the same thing. I'm a Mayor Pete guy, but I will absolutely vote for whomever the eventual nominee is. And I will absolutely NOT badmouth any other candidates. Screw that. Why give into trolls?

by Anonymousreply 60June 18, 2019 2:33 PM

I'd vote for Biden too, but that doesn't mean I can't criticize him when he says stupid stuff like we need to work with the republicans. We've been there and tried that. It doesn't work. They're immoral crooks. But what do I know, I'm a Russian troll with good sentence structure.

I second that, R58 - We need to go back to a 50 state strategy. I live in Oregon, so we get absolutely nothing. I honestly almost wish we had a nationwide primary, so the candidates were forced to spend time across the country, instead of letting late states like us take the crumbs.

You can put lipstick on a pig, but it's still a pig. The Media keeps pretending he's our legitimate President instead of a fucking criminal, and by handling him they way they have, they're normalizing a lot of horrific shit. The American People hate Trump. Easily 70% of us do. And I don't give a fuck if it's his birthday, or Father's Day or WTF ever they try to spin. He has destroyed lives. Fuck him.

Help a legal immigrant out (not meant literally, although if you think I stand a good chance of banking on ignorant xenophobes with a GoFundMe for moving expenses please elaborate!):

Are the roundup and deportation of immigrants the only vows Trump can be counted to make good upon?

I've been told that "immigrant" is a coded dogwhistle for foreign nationals of colour. I never read anything in the news about which immigrants wouldn't bear the burden of Stephen Miller's policies though so I tend to think 'immigrant' means them too.

What dogwhistle term do native-born Americans have for immigrants of European ancestry?

R50 in that thread it looks like Muriel stated that there were no "insiders," on DL and never were. That anyone claiming to be is essentially, full of it, and just messing with the gullible.

I don't know if I agree entirely. I do think that a lot of the people claiming to have inside info are ridiculously full of it, and it's easy to see that. However, I can recall at least two or three individuals who used to post on DL and provided accurate information that ended up being true shortly after the people posted on them.

Also, in the same thread Muriel stated that there was no way to tell who was trolling or who the trolls were, even for DL, so I'm not sure how that fits with knowing for sure that there are no, "insiders." Again, I definitely agree that a lot of people are full of it when they make such claims, but I find it hard to believe that in the entire history of DL, there have been absolutely NO people with inside information that has been shared.

by Anonymousreply 76June 18, 2019 4:25 PM

R76 In that same thread, Muriel said that yes, celebrities posted on DL. And I'd call a celebrity an insider.

R142, the story was that she wanted to leave last year but couldn’t find another job. In way, that’s odd, because she was one of the few people close to Trump who was good at her job, and he genuinely trusted her. Yes, her job was “being evil,” but she was a pro.

From the Orlando Sentinel not-an-endorsement:

[quote] “We’re here to announce our endorsement for president in 2020, or, at least, who we’re not endorsing: Donald Trump.”

[quote] The editorial went on to discuss a litany of reasons the board finds itself unable to endorse Trump in the next election. It also makes clear that although the board won’t endorse Trump, it is not saying it will endorse a Democrat — historically, Lafferty said, the board has supported Republicans for president, although it has favored Democrats in three of the past four elections.

(Updated at 7:25 p.m.) Reactions poured in from readers throughout the day. They ranged from several dozen readers who cancelled subscriptions to emails and calls that said the editorial was a “disgrace” and called us “crazy” and “un-American.”

un-American? As in not of the Seminole or Miccosukee tribes? Or un-American as in "let the more qualified and less unhinged person have the job"?

sample angry reader message:

“Just finished the Sentinel editorial in today’s edition. No surprise actually; the Tribune has been a Democrat mouthpiece since the mid ’70’s. Trump is judged on his political correctness, never on his ideas.” (From email to me. Editor’s note: Tribune Publishing owns the Orlando Sentinel.)

What ideas are over half of the American populace missing? Are they in his tweets? I guess he's never judged on his ideas because he doesn't have any, or because people who've graduated from high school are aware some of his ideas were put in use by other people 80-90 years ago?

She is not quite as crazy and delusional as some other former employees. And you can bet that people like Spicer who is a stone loser, and Huckabee Sanders look at Hope with....hope and envy. They have probably sent her resumes. I'm sure Miss Sarah has probably gotten a lot of advice from people in positions to hire her or recommend her, all telling her she needs a "cool down" period, so she's not so identified with Trump....LOLOL!

by Anonymousreply 151June 19, 2019 11:44 AM

I once knew a guy who was press secretary to a polarizing, controversial figure. In front of the cameras, at news conferences he would defend his boss, but stick to facts, never attacking anyone in the press. Ever. Behind the scenes, he was always helpful. If you called his office to ask questions or get information he always returned calls and got you what you asked for. If someone had a birthday, got married, had a baby, he always offered congratulations, always assuring the media in general, that "it's not personal" etc. When his boss, who was a coarse, wealthy, self-made businessman, dropped dead, he found a great job at one of the Big three automobile companies in no time. Later he went to work for a giant healthcare organization. Sarah never got that part of the job. She never understood her role. She spent all her time being Mini Trump.

Trump's base has not faltered. He will not be reaching out to centrists or moderates during the campaign. They will be registering and targeting new voters among his base spectrum. They will rely on turnout of their base.

Democrats must get younger voters registered and push hard on turnout themselves. Enthusiasm to vote will be critical.

His voters are mentally incapable of moving on from his tired talking points. It doesn't matter what he says. He can read a Mayor Pete rally transcript verbatim and they'd still cheer like animals and vote for him. These people are the worst humanity has to offer. Down in the gutter with worst of the worst as they destroy the country and influence the rest of the world. Remember this when you're talking with one of his voters who 'seems' nice. I know it's difficult and some of them you want to avoid that with. They don't deserve your time. They have nothing to offer you and you'll NEVER shift their brain dead, mean spirited soul. I believe people can be conditioned and brainwashed. I believe people can be misled and manipulated. Starve them, flood their homes, take away their money and health, some of them have the potential to be conditioned to another ideology or mindset.

I had a difficult time for months reconciling the fact someone I like a lot and admire did not ever register to vote. The Trump supporters at least acted on what they were suckered into believing was in their best interests. How are the knowing Americans who observe their lunacy yet do nothing to counter Trumpanzees' votes much better?

by Anonymousreply 181June 19, 2019 3:33 PM

Ultimately, R181, they aren't. They'd like to think themselves 'above it all' when asked. Then there's the 'no one is better than anyone else argument.'

In some ways, I think they're worse.

by Anonymousreply 182June 19, 2019 3:39 PM

When someone feeds me the garbage "No one is better than anyone else" argument I ask if the candidate who won the popular vote would have stacked the SCOTUS with the likes of Kavanagh, and would have hired Stephen Miller to draft immigration policy.

by Anonymousreply 193June 19, 2019 4:18 PM

I'm of the belief that a lot of his dwindling base were not voters before him. The Trump voters sort of discovered politics when Trump decided to run. Many of them were already fans. Many others were racists who dropped out (if they were ever active) because of Obama. The racists crawled out of their holes when Obama got nominated. They attached to McCain & Pailin, but when he lost, they simply fled to their Alt Right Conspiracy theory websites and hung out in the basement for 8 years, politically. I suspect that once Trump is gone a lot of them will disappear. I know the Alt Right will try hard to hold on to their recruits. But it won't last. They have to be fed in order to thrive.

Here is what this fuck has said-

"Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) wondered aloud how anyone could expect Kacsmaryk to be a fair and impartial judge. He cited bizarre comments Kacsmaryk has made about the Equality Act, a sweeping LGBTQ anti-discrimination bill.

“He labeled the Equality Act a ‘public affirmation of the lie that the human person is an autonomous blob of Silly Putty, unconstrained by nature or biology, and that marriage, sexuality, gender identity, and even the unborn child must yield to the erotic desires of liberated adults,’” Schumer said Wednesday on the Senate floor. “Why on earth is this man a nominee for a lifetime appointment? Why would my colleagues want to drape black robes over these bigoted views? Our judicial system is designed to protect liberties, not denigrate them.”

Kacsmaryk, who is the deputy general counsel for First Liberty Institute, a right-wing Christian advocacy group, sounds like a lot of President Donald Trump’s other judicial nominees — young, right-wing ideologues, the vast majority of whom are white men.

But even within the homogeneity of Trump’s court picks, Kacsmaryk stands out.

“He is one of Trump’s most extreme nominees,” said Carl Tobias, a University of Richmond law professor and an expert on judicial nominations. “His public statements about LGBTQ people and about abortion suggest that in litigation involving LGBTQ and abortion rights, litigants will have difficulty believing that he will fairly resolve their cases.”

Kacsmaryk does have something in common with nearly all of Trump’s judicial nominees: He’s a member of the conservative Federalist Society, which has been driving Trump’s judicial selection process and funneling anti-abortion and anti-LGBTQ nominees to the

Biden is actually popular with AA. Our base is very fractured and is not monolithic quite like the GOP. Our base is progressives AND moderates.

Here is the thing- we need judges. No matter if Warren or Sanders or whomever, pass every single piece of legislation we want, the courts will strike it down. Every single progressive policy.

Conservatives have insulated themselves for decades by way of the courts. They know soon enough they won't be able to cheat their way to the Presidency.

by Anonymousreply 261June 20, 2019 11:36 AM

by Anonymousreply 262June 20, 2019 11:48 AM

by Anonymousreply 263June 20, 2019 12:29 PM

I'm going to post here what I posted in the other Biden Thread, because it's pretty damned good. I posted it on the "apologize for What" thread because I didn't want to derail this one, but since we're talking about it :

Here's the thing. White Supremacy isn't confined to loonies and conspiracy theorists. And we know that. What we are seeing with the Republican Party, articulated by their Clown Prince, Donald Trump, is the legitimizing of Racism as part of public policy in very overt ways. We are seeing that "trickle down" to state houses and to local governments.

this is not new. There have always been racists in government. But to embrace Racism , which is a system of oppression, as part of public policy, and have a Donald Trump put it in our faces every fucking day, makes it an extremely volatile issue. Ever present. (Something even Vladimir Putin understands.) So when someone like Joe Biden talks about Eastland and Talmadge, etc. he needs to make it very clear that they were evil people. Because they were.

Racism is not benign. It is not a "different point of view." Too often, the Media casts it as a difference of opinion. This is a popular framing. Politicians often do the same thing. Like when Trump says shit like, "there are good people on both sides." No. There are not. Joe can talk about working with people he disagreed with. We have to. But not with this iteration of the Republican Party. These are evil people.

Racism isn't something you disagree with. It is something you must actively oppose. He is walking back his comments a bit, amplifying them. But he really needs to make sure that the under 50 crowd knows he "gets it." I'm not condemning what he meant, but this is another example of how being tone deaf is really working against him. Joe needs to get out of his own way. The paternalism of White Liberals from back in the 60's ended a long time ago. Someone needs to tell him that.

Perhaps no one is getting jailed for contempt because once that happens, we’re off to the races as far as impeachment is concerned.

In order to stave off impeachment proceedings as long as possible, so that support can be built on both sides of the aisle and in the minds of the public - while making it clear impeachment is anything but a political move by Nancy as third in line for the presidency - Trump’s inner-circle must remain free to go about their business.

What's going on with Pence's former national security adviser who is now a State Department employee negotiating deals with Russia who just happened to have Maria Butina's boyfriend officiate at her wedding. by Anonymousreply 301June 20, 2019 5:50 PM

well this is just further proof of white dominance in the media. While there are more diverse journalists, writers and hosts than in the past, the majority is still white. They therefore have an obsession with why so many white voters love Trump. I don't care at this point. Not much will sway their mind.

by Anonymousreply 302June 20, 2019 5:51 PM

There's been a bunch of these interviews/town hall sessions whereby so-called prior Obama voters or independents elaborate on why they voted for Trump and still may do so. If you listen to them, they speak the same talking points as the MAGA hat crowds. And they receive their messaging from Fox 'News'. Most are middle-aged will modest jobs, and don't appear to have formal higher education. They will say they didn't vote for HRC because of the deep state and what happened with Benghazi and her Emails. If or when pressed to explain, their command of the events that unfolded, and the details involved on these matters, are shallow and flawed. Then they credit Trump for a great economy and their wonderful tax cuts. Then they will falsely claim Trump is resolving illegal immigration. It is not worth the time to be interviewing these people.

by Anonymousreply 303June 20, 2019 6:07 PM

It's especially galling since these Trump voters will not come right out and say that most of them were attracted to Trump's racist rhetoric and thought he might be able to ensure white dominance in American life against a growing army of non-white people.

by Anonymousreply 304June 20, 2019 6:09 PM

Well, R294, no one is talking about Russia or impeachment right now. This is Trump's only way out of that mess. And it will come at the expense of American lives. I hope most Americans can see what he's doing to save his own skin. He is a monster.

by Anonymousreply 305June 20, 2019 6:16 PM

Rachel just mentioned one interesting thing that Hope Hicks did talk about in her testimony:

Just after the Access Hollywood tape came about, she said there was concern about TMZ possibly having a tape of Trump in Russia with "hookers doing lewd activities."

by Anonymousreply 355June 21, 2019 1:34 AM

Hicks said she contacted Cohen to tell him about another rumored tape.

Hicks said she believes she heard about the tape from Katrina Pierson, who also worked on the campaign.

“And she had called to tell me that — or maybe sent me a message about rumors of a tape involving Mr. Trump in Moscow with … Russian hookers, participating in some lewd activities.”

She then said she “wanted to make sure that I stayed on top of it before it developed any further, to try to contain it from spiraling out of control.”

by Anonymousreply 356June 21, 2019 1:41 AM

So they knew about the Moscow hooker tape BEFORE it was ever even mentioned in the Steele Dossier (which broke months later in January)? So, they later denied the existence of a tape they were talking about internally before it was revealed in the Dossier. I think we al know that tape is real. It’ just too bizarre not to be.

by Anonymousreply 381June 21, 2019 4:30 AM

Rachel was a bit confusing tonight. We knew about the timing of when the Trump campaign first heard about the Pee Tape from Cohen's earlier testimony - maybe not the exact timing but we know he testified that the campaign asked him to research whether or not a tape existed of Trump and hookers doing watersports in Russia. There is also testimony of the text that was sent to Cohen from Russia about "stopping the flow" of tapes.

by Anonymousreply 382June 21, 2019 4:30 AM

it's kinda like the Mueller Report. It helps, and I want people to pay attention, but it isn't exactly necessary. Trump is a lying grifter whore who would do anything to gratify himself. We don't actually need proof, but proof would be nice.

by Anonymousreply 383June 21, 2019 4:34 AM

by Anonymousreply 384June 21, 2019 4:38 AM

R383 I agree. It certainly added color to the story that she had them contact TMZ and Levin about the tape. That is why we need lots of public testimony. The simple point is that if no tape existed then Trump would have simply had to say to staff don't worry about that I didn't ever sleep with any prostitutes in Russia. There is no tape because I didn't do anything in Russia. Trump apparently couldn't say that or more likely his staff didn't believe anything he was telling them after the "Grab them by the Pussy" tape.

If all of this had been said in front of a fucking camera, this would be getting closer to being over. No doubt they said that she would only testify if it was behind closed doors, so the Dems took what they could get for now.

Speaking of lying assholes behind closed doors, did anything at all come from Don Jr.'s Senate hearing? So much shit happening all the time that I lose track of it all.

by Anonymousreply 386June 21, 2019 4:53 AM

Yes, if no act existed then no tape could have existed. If you didn't do anything to tape, you wouldn't worry. Oh, the tape is real. The Hicks testimony really was not for nothing.

Biden is getting excoriated for his bipartisan appeal but it is politically smart. I certainly hope Biden understands the current GOP will never be bipartisan but it does appeal to the naive voter which number in the tens of millions.

The GOP killed bipartisanship, They excoriated 41 over his compromise with Dems to bring down our deficit by raising taxes. Clinton would go on to raise them further and what do you know- BOOM times for almost everyone. Our defict went to surplus and the GOP congress gets no credit because they did not touch any of Clinton's landmark economic policies in the 1993 budget. Clinton did compromise with the GOP Congress on a number of awful bills but it was under duress.

Still, the GOP killed the idea of compromise and need to be called out for it. It will never happen again because the GOP has become beholden to special interests, the rich, corps. Call a Dem a Corporate Dem all you want but they, as a party, still raise taxes on the rich and increase regulation on the rich. Only one party betrays our country and that is the GOP.

The media had a heavy hand in destroying the political careers of prior candidates such as Gary Hart, Howard Dean, and even Hillary Clinton, by relentlessly over-dramatizing and inflaming a particular mistake or decision.

By contrast, the media wants to sustain Trump for the ratings. They could help bring him down on multiple matters by how they choose to focus and promote stories. Few are doing quality, investigative journalism that receives widespread coverage..

The episode is one of six incidents Carroll details in the article of attacks on her by men over the course of her life. Another episode involves the disgraced former CEO of CBS, Les Moonves. The cover story is an excerpt from her newest book, What Do We Need Men For? A Modest Proposal, which will be published on July 2 by St. Martin’s Press.

When Carroll meets Donald Trump in Bergdorf Goodman, the encounter starts as a friendly one. Trump recognizes her as “that advice lady”; Carroll recognizes him as “that real-estate tycoon.” Trump tells Carroll that he’s there to buy a gift for “a girl,” and though we don’t learn the identity of this mystery woman, Carroll places the ensuing incident in late 1995 or early 1996, during which time Trump was married to Marla Maples. When Trump asks Carroll to advise him on what to buy, she agrees, and the two eventually make their way to the lingerie section. Trump suggests a lace bodysuit and encourages Carroll to try it on; she, deflecting, jokingly suggests that he try it on instead. After they reach the dressing rooms, events turn violent. In Carroll’s account, Trump shoves her against a wall inside a dressing room, pulls down her tights, and, “forcing his fingers around my private area, thrusts his penis halfway — or completely, I’m not certain — inside me."

Hope to see some indictments out of SDNY soon.

by Anonymousreply 469June 22, 2019 1:35 AM

We need 218 votes to impeach him in the House. We don't have the votes yet. The hearings and the media expose's are helping, but we aren't there yet. You'd think that after last night's debacle with the jets over Iran, the Senate might want to climb on board, but so far nothing. So we need to force the Media to focus on the Senate. Nancy can't force people to vote for Impeachment hearings. It's a very sensitive issue. Yu want impeachment hearings, call your Congressman and ask him if he is on your side. So far I doubt we have 100 votes.

by Anonymousreply 470June 22, 2019 1:45 AM

He even said on the Access Hollywood tape that he was moving on her very heavily, but couldn't get there. He then went on to criticize her current appearance and talk about her phony breasts.

by Anonymousreply 474June 22, 2019 2:36 AM

Nancy Polosi doesn't have the votes to impeach in the House because she doesn't WANT the votes to impeach in the House. If she came out for impeachment then the democratic caucus follows. The 77 who have stated their desire for impeachment are actually going against her wishes. Almost the entire caucus is for impeachment if she would just give the approval.

by Anonymousreply 475June 22, 2019 3:55 AM

Why are so many House Dems not calling for an impeachment inquiry? It must be clearly based on their perceived self-interest (keeping their seat and paycheck). I can't believe only 74 of them are on board.

It really will look horrible in history if this fucking bastard doesn't get impeached. We know the Senate won't remove him. I don't see how that would make Democrats look wrong when the evidence is out there.

If more House Dems took the courageous and righteous step, Pelosi would be pressured into it herself. They're giving her a cushion now

by Anonymousreply 476June 22, 2019 4:14 AM

Something is wrong with some of you that you can't see that this entire slow leak of Democrats expressing their support for impeachment while Nancy holds onto the faucet handle is all completely planned. It's theater. She is the level-headed leader who doesn't want to be political and wants to follow all the rules who is keeping her hot-headed caucus in line. She's allowing the trickle of calls for impeachment and has planned it to reach its peak this Fall. At that point, when they start the impeachment proceedings, she can't be blamed for politicizing it because she fought for the exact rule of law to be followed and had to be brought to calling for impeachment by the overwhelming calls of her caucus. The time taken to get there will lend credence to the overall proceedings.

by Anonymousreply 477June 22, 2019 6:58 AM

Our country has been completely betrayed, I don't know why. Mueller literally killed us.

by Anonymousreply 483June 22, 2019 8:10 AM

R477 again there is a time crunch. The trickling of Democratic House members supporting impeachment needs to get going at a faster rate or they won't impeach at all. Do you think if they haven't started by the fall that they'll do it in the election year? I can't see them starting in 2020.

R477 and others, what you say may be true, but there are a lot of Democratic House members in Red States who are worried, and we need to hold on to those seats in 2020. They can not just jump on the Impeachment bandwagon. That is why things appear to be moving slowly. When Nancy talks about "educating people " so they know what is in the Mueller report, for example, she is really talking about raising public awareness so that a lot of reluctant voters will understand what we have to do. We have to really work hard to get this done.

It is not nearly as simple as Nancy deciding to go for it, and everyone will just fall in line. If that were the case we could have started holding Impeachment hearings months ago. Nancy wants Trump out. Not only does she believe he is a criminal, she also believes he is completely unfit to serve and is a threat to National Security. And she gets the top secret briefings so she should know.

The Republicans are going to do anything they can to grab state legislatures, governors, and House members in 2020. Anything. They are desperate, and so is Trump. Legislative redistricting comes up, more judges to appoint to "fix the courts, and keeping Trump in office. That's their agenda. To get there they have to divide the Democrats and have them fighting one another, weaken Pelosi, and if possible force her into impeachment in such a way that the Democrats lose House seats in 2020. They may not regain a complete majority in the House but they want to get rid of Pelosi in any case. The Republicans also believe that they can hold the Senate and an impeachment action by Democrats that is rejected by the Senate will help them do that.

by Anonymousreply 490June 22, 2019 1:04 PM

[quote]We've been distracted by Iran now, so no one cares about the Mueller Report.

It seems like the false narrative that he was exonerated stuck, even though it has been contradicted by Mueller himself. Trump's talking heads will parrot that and whoever is interviewing them rarely correct them.

What is coming out about the conditions of the detention centers should be a bigger story as well.

Perhaps the slow-going with impeachment is due to the fact that it is the entire GOP that we need to bring down and not merely only Dump. We also don't know if NP has any kompromat of her own. I also have no fear of war with Iran because Putin will stop him from doing anything like that. Saudi Arabia, yes. Isreal, yes. But Putin needs Iran in the ME.

Politico reports Manafort wrote Trump adviser Sean Hannity toward the end of a case, “Once [it's] dine [done] then we need to sit and build the plan"—a reference some will surely take as referring to a Trump-Hannity-Manafort conspiracy to pardon Manafort (obstruction).

Sean Hannity and Paul Manafort have quite the cozy relationship!

by Anonymousreply 498June 22, 2019 3:58 PM

by Anonymousreply 500June 22, 2019 4:19 PM

Yeah, R448, it is the truth. I'm patient, I'll wait for Nancy to pull the trigger.

The 'sorry' was a mistake I didn't delete from an incomplete thought. Sorry, not sorry, but the motherfucker needs to get impeached and removed from office.

by Anonymousreply 501June 22, 2019 5:13 PM

Dont forget....Hannity and Trump both confessed to having MANY late night phone conversations....so I agree with r499

by Anonymousreply 502June 22, 2019 5:22 PM

"Who cares about the so-called pee tapes."

"It seems like the false narrative that he was exonerated stuck"

The second quote is why the first one is important. The majority of the followers who believe the false narrative are the ones who do care about the pee tapes, or are at least interested enough to follow the story. If they're actually produced thus proving their existence, maybe they will finally see Trump for the lying scumbag he is. Just my theory.

I'm really pissed off that Hannity is not in trouble with the law. Yes we know he's not a real journalist or news host but his viewers and listeners don't care about that.

He has so much contact with all the criminals around Trump. Something's up

and I'm pissed Democrats didn't ask about what sort of "work" Cohen did for him this past spring. My only hope is that the NY AG is investigating but still...he needs to go down HARD

by Anonymousreply 505June 22, 2019 5:27 PM

What R477 said. The House has one shot at doing this. One.

I'm hearing impeachment hearings will start in September.

by Anonymousreply 506June 22, 2019 5:27 PM

by Anonymousreply 507June 22, 2019 5:31 PM

I agree R501. There will always be conspiracy theorists trying to distract from the truth, but the pee tapes are important. Not only to embarrass Trump, but it is the one thing that everyone would pay attention to and not forget about days later. And it would be visual proof that the Steele dossier is 100% accurate.

by Anonymousreply 551June 23, 2019 4:20 AM

Actually, based on how eratic the Orange Lunatic has been of late I wonder which will come up first: Impeachment or the 25th Ammendment?

by Anonymousreply 552June 23, 2019 4:38 AM

I'm thinking the 25th Amendment. It's not enough to try to convert Representatives threatened, blackmailed or associated with an enemy power to consider impeachment, the other method of making hamplanet BLOTUS feed himself to Jovian dimensions while his brain's neural pathways atrophy and grow sticky.

by Anonymousreply 553June 23, 2019 4:45 AM

His cabinet will NEVER invoke the 25th Amendment, R552. Trump won’t even fill all of the positions.

by Anonymousreply 554June 23, 2019 4:45 AM

Because acting cabinet secretary's don't have a say in the 25th Amendment, it therefore takes fewer to get to a majority.
