Should this "Super Dad" be required to pay child support?

College grads have to live with roommates for years in NYC before they can one day afford to live in their own place. If you are uneducated and unable to work, just get yourself pregnant and you will get your own place, paid for by NYC!

He's responsible for his sperm. He pays child support for 18 years.

You make a life, you support that life - until the child graduates from college. All the expenses. Use a condom or keep it between your legs, otherwise.

It says in the article that 5 women have sued him for child support. If he offers his services with the understanding that it is free and there is no relationship or expected relationship between himself and the women, do they have a legal leg to stand on?

The women who are suing him have a case for support if he has publicly claimed to be the father of the children, and there is no formal written agreement dealing with custody and child support. It sounds as if he just has “verbal understandings” with these women. If that’s so, the State should be able to get him to cover at least part of the child’s upkeep.

In a normal world, a govt social service agency would sue this man because he IS the father (paternity test by court order if necessary). This is NYC where the mother would lose her benefits if the father had to pay up. She will almost certainly NOT put his name on the birth certificate.

NYC on behalf of the taxpayers should sue his ass for child support and reduce her benefits by the same amount. This 18 year old has NO business raising children and having the public dime pay for it.

A one night stand resulting in a kid can cost a man child support until the age of 21. This is no different, or even worse, since he gave the sperm in a cup to this woman after she asked so she could have a govt free rent baby by him

Get a brain. The pregnant young woman did not go through official channels and purchase sperm from a sperm bank, with a legal agreement in place that spelled out the donor's financial responsibility or lack thereof for the child. Your analogy only holds up if egg lady somehow manages to extract the egg herself, get it fertilized on her own and hand if off to teen mom-wannabe as a favor, with no legal arrangement in place. Since that would be virtually impossible, I don't think the potential egg donors of the world have much to worry about.

The state has a strict statute that spells out how the amount is calculated. If the government provides support because the parent ordered to pay child support has not done so, then the government recovers from the parent under court order to pay. The government has reeeeeeally good computers that finds the parent's social security number wherever it is used. Payroll. Tax refunds. Social Security payments. It all gets grabbed electronically.

This young woman blew it by being fifth in line to get paid. After all the previous child support orders are deducted from the father's net pay, there won't be much to get. Is this man a trust fund baby with unlimited resources at his disposal? There is only so much child support one can pay before the standard checking account is tapped out.

There was a case somewhat similar a few years ago. A lesbian couple asked a male acquaintance to donate sperm so that they could conceive a child. They had an agreement absolving him of any responsibility; they didn't want any help (i.e. interference) from him. Initially they were financially secure, but then they fell on hard times and had to apply for welfare. They had to identify the dad on the paperwork, and the state (city?) went after the dad and forced him to pay support for this kid whom he didn't even know.

If the prospective mother goes to a fertility clinic and uses the sperm in the clinic's inventory, then there is no child support obligation for the donor. He donated anonymously and he is done.

If the parties cook up their own arrangement and do the insemination without medical supervision, the father is responsible for child support. They cannot enter into an agreement that robs the child of its right to be supported by both parents. They do not have the power to do that.

Why isn't the PC crowd addressing the real issue here? The babymomma intentionally got herself pregnant just to get a housing voucher. You think that that type of thing is an isolated incident? There must be thousands of other black women who allow themselves to get pregnant just to reap the government benefits that come along with it.

Single men in particular get nothing from many social services programs because they are not women or because they don't have children. This is a weird variable but in general....

Women should have access to safe, legal abortion and men should have the right to be notified within the first 4 months of the pregnancy and elect to either be involved or abort their legal responsibility. Serve them with paperwork, give them 30 days to call it, and make the deadline early enough that the woman can reconsider abortion if having no support from Dad changes her outlook.

No man should be able to stop a woman from abortion if she isn’t ready for motherhood and no woman should be able to force a man into fatherhood.

The article mentioned that he is a math professor. Anyone know if he's an adjunct (part-timer). If so, he's very likely earning a pittance and getting significant money from him for child support will be impossible.
