Madonna Reportedly Devastated As New Tour Bombs

Four years ago, Madonna was selling out shows at Madison Square Garden. Now, she’s struggling to sell out the BAM opera house in Brooklyn.

The “Material Girl” singer’s “Madame X” tour that kicks off in New York City on Sept. 12 is off to a surprisingly sluggish start, with hundreds of seats still available for most gigs after more than a month on the block, The Post has learned.

That’s despite the fact that the 60-year-old pop star’s upcoming tour will focus on small, theater-type venues that typically only have a few thousand seats each.

After initial reports that the first shows sold out, an interactive seat map that went live on Ticketmaster’s website this week shows that hundreds of seats are still available for each gig.

For an Oct. 7 concert at the 2,100-seat BAM Howard Gilman Opera House — the last night of a 17-night stand that’s slated for Brooklyn — more than half of its $357 mezzanine seats were unsold as of Tuesday afternoon, according to Ticketmaster’s map.

Prime seats directly in front of the stage in the orchestra, also priced at $357, were still available by the dozens. Meanwhile, only half of the $257 balcony seats were taken, with many already being offered at a discount on StubHub — one as low as $220.

That shows a “shocking” lack of interest in Madonna, according to one insider. Her 2015-2016 “Rebel Heart Tour” grossed $170 million at venues that often drew more than 30,000 fans for a single performance.

On that tour, she reportedly sold out Madison Square Garden twice. In 2012, she was said to sell out Yankee Stadium in 20 minutes.

Madonna’s “Madame X” tour is being promoted by Live Nation, which insisted in a statement that a huge number of seats are now available because it has “increased the number of shows exponentially due to overwhelming demand.”

“We added 10 shows in New York alone (a total of 17) to accommodate Madonna’s vast fanbase,” the concert promoter told The Post. “We removed suspicious requests throughout the campaign to ensure as many real fans as possible were able to access tickets. With the first round of tickets completely fulfilled and delivered to verified registered fans, Live Nation released a limited amount of additional tickets yesterday (Monday).”

Nevertheless, all 17 shows at the BAM opera house showed at least 150 seats still available, including opening night on Sept. 12.

After New York, the tour will move to the 3,600-seat Chicago Theatre in October, and then onto gigs including the 4,300-seat Colosseum at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas; the 1,800-seat Wiltern Theatre in Los Angeles and the 3,500-capacity Wang Theatre in Boston.

At several of those dates, nearly half of the tour’s tickets and VIP packages remain unsold — despite lottery sales since Madonna announced on May 6 that her “intimate” gig would take place mostly in 2,000-seat venues.

“It’s very telling these shows didn’t sell out as quickly as ‘Springsteen on Broadway’ did a couple of years ago,” an insider said. “This clearly isn’t the home run Team Madonna was hoping for.”

Her “Madame X” album, due out on June 14, could add to the momentum, although early signs aren’t encouraging. None of the five songs released before the record itself drops has debuted on the Billboard Hot 100.

Take A Bow! Madonna Struggling To Sell Tickets As Upcoming Album Bombs: 'She's Devastated'

60-year-old Material Girl 'doesn't understand why fans aren't coming to support her.'

Madonna's upcoming Madame X tour is turning out to be a complete disaster, as RadarOnline.com exclusively learned she’s “devastated” that she isn’t selling out in seconds like she once did!

Although the 60-year-old singer scaled back to smaller venues for the upcoming tour, it’s not making much of a difference in terms of numbers.

For the first week of shows of the tour — which kicks off September 12 at the Howard Gilman Opera House in Brooklyn, New York — there are hundreds of seats still available. Combining her entire time in Brooklyn, Madonna has thousands of tickets still on the market!

For example, ticket sales for the Sunday, September 15 show — which is just three nights into her tour — there are at least 100 seats still available! Opens a New Window.

Although the acclaimed artists does not sell out any of the nights while in her home state of New York, ticket sales get much worse when she moves into slightly larger venues.

In fact, for Madge’s opening night at the MET in Philadelphia on Saturday, December 7, Ticketmaster Opens a New Window. shows that there are more than 400 tickets up for grabs! Opens a New Window.

And according to a source close to the potentially washed-up “Material Girl,” she “doesn’t understand why her fans are not coming to support her new shows.”

Added the informant: “She is really quite dumbfounded by this because she used to sell out entire stadiums Opens a New Window. in seconds,” the insider told Radar exclusively.

Sadly, it is not just Madonna’s tour that isn’t generating interest, but also her upcoming album, Madame X, which has gotten mixed reviews.

Madonna has released five songs from her Madame X album, which is set for a June 14 release. So far, not one of the songs have made it into the Top 100.

Back to the drawing board Madonna (hint: catchy dance-pop, duh.) She's not going to take this laying down. She'll get you, you pretties, and your little dog too!

There is no proof Madage is "devated" that ticket sales have stalled.

Also, they are too expensive. Those are Met Opera prices. The gall!

Most of her fans are elderly gay men, she can't possibly expect them to keep attending concerts when they're well into their 50s.

by Anonymousreply 10June 12, 2019 12:09 AM

Plus everyone figured out there is no spectacle. So why pay that price to be trapped with just Madge?

This bitch hasn't allowed proper management of her career for years, now.

by Anonymousreply 22June 12, 2019 12:21 AM

Her drinking is going to get worse and her excuses for bombing are going to become more and more ridiculous.

by Anonymousreply 23June 12, 2019 12:22 AM

Mae West should've retired years earlier than she did, she was completely senile and making a fool of herself by the end. Until Madonna's similarly lost her marbles, and hope she keeps trying for a comeback. If any old lady can score a pop hit, it's Madonna.

by Anonymousreply 24June 12, 2019 12:23 AM

I wish she had better management.

by Anonymousreply 25June 12, 2019 12:24 AM

Madonna doesn't need to retire but she needs to find a way to put over her artistry and persona after 60. If she can't do that (it seems hopeless) than yeah she expceptionally needs to retire. Plenty of singer-artists performed into their 70s and beyond and sold their tickets. Dietrich was 70 for her odd but successful concerts in the early 70s. She allowed her self to work with a good collaborator in Bacharach.

by Anonymousreply 28June 12, 2019 12:35 AM

If she cut the # of shows by 30%, they would all be sold out. Also, the nosebleed seats are too expensive.

by Anonymousreply 29June 12, 2019 12:36 AM

r27 Most of my Uber drivers are hotter than Maluma. You need to leave your basement more often!

As Elton says, I look like a mini Jabba the Hut, except less attractive.

by Anonymousreply 39June 12, 2019 12:48 AM

The tix are MORONICALLY expensive even for these small venues. There is no way in hell I’m shelling out THOUSANDS for a good seat to Madonna at 60 years old. And in a shit venue no less.

Most of the tix/good seats (at least for Chicago) are blocked out as VIP Package only - we’re talking like $700 - $2,500 ticket! That’s insane. Basic bitch tickets are like $260 minimum. Those are the ones selling. There are oodles of the “VIP Package” ones left.

Fuck Madge.

by Anonymousreply 40June 12, 2019 12:49 AM

Sorry grandma, your not worth the money.

by Anonymousreply 41June 12, 2019 12:52 AM

She was always style over substance, that's why she's faltering. Whereas, Bruce Springsteen and Billy Joel continue to thrive because they have the singing chops.

by Anonymousreply 42June 12, 2019 12:52 AM

People are burnt-out on "rebel shock" gimmickry. The curtain has fallen on the Mystery! symbolism tropes and people are tired of the same, old overplayed "bad girl" or "bad boy" gig and Hades visuals. "Is she in The Illuminati?" has become a running joke among the masses. Her usual "I'm bad!" shtick is not a good fit for these times.

If she wanted to really shock everyone, she could've showed up to awards shows in gingham coat dresses, singing folk tunes.

unable to sell out small theaters? wasn't she selling out arenas - even stadiums in just a few minutes just a few years ago? or maybe it was just the scalpers buying them ?

by Anonymousreply 58June 12, 2019 1:16 AM

r42 Springsteen's "singing" voice sounds like he's taking a mean shit. He has like 6 top 10 hits, people only consider him a legend because he exploits patriotism.

by Anonymousreply 59June 12, 2019 1:37 AM

I loathe Candle in the wind with the heat of 10,000 suns. But I loved 1970s Elton. The current version of Elton has zero right to talk about anyone elses looks or personality. That being said,I wouldnt see madonna for free.

by Anonymousreply 60June 12, 2019 1:39 AM

She already does make old people's music, r27 - that's why her sales are tanking.

by Anonymousreply 61June 12, 2019 1:43 AM

R59, I should've said musical ability. I don't mind Springsteen's voice, but I know he's not everyone's cup of tea. He's talented and he's built a loyal following. Whereas, Madonna was always bubble gum. You can't sustain that at 60.

by Anonymousreply 62June 12, 2019 1:47 AM

Madonna needs to get rid of Guy Oseary now. Terrible manager.

It's not 2009 anymore. She can't get away with these prices anymore. She hasn't had a hit in years. Her face is a mess and people don't connect with her anymore. Why would they want to pay $1,500 for a ticket and some lame laminate and a glass of champagne?

She's going to have to swallow her pride - which she won't - and play up the nostalgia factor.

by Anonymousreply 63June 12, 2019 1:53 AM

Madonna has a shit live concert reputation.

1 - She makes the crowd at every show wait 2 1/1 hours before she hits the stage

2 - Her ticket prices are beyond outrageous.

3 - She DOESN'T play the hits ON PURPOSE.

Because of social media EVERYONE now knows how they will be treated. People don't want to pay a fuck load of money to be treated like shit.

I LOVE Madonna and have been a fan from the start but I also know what happens every tour. It's the same fucking bullshit over and over and over!

Get your fat ass on stage at 9:15 and play some of the fucking hits that made you! Plus, tickets shouldn't have a $300.00 last row of the venue PRICE TAGS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

by Anonymousreply 64June 12, 2019 1:54 AM

im sure some people saw the eurovision and billboard performances and those were big turnoffs and not a big help in moving tickets

by Anonymousreply 65June 12, 2019 1:58 AM

If Madonna did a proper greatest hits tour, it would sell out.

by Anonymousreply 66June 12, 2019 1:59 AM

doubtful r66 and at this point, at her age, this tour probably her last chance to do that.

by Anonymousreply 67June 12, 2019 2:00 AM

r67 I agree. I meant this should've been a greatest hits tour.

by Anonymousreply 68June 12, 2019 2:03 AM

I think her biggest problem is she has no one who can tell her when she's doing something stupid--it sounds like she's constantly surrounded by yes-people. Even Trump has people who tell him when he's wrong--they get fired sometimes, but he still has them around. And we've heard reports Ivanka and Jared advise him sometimes.

I wonder if her older kids tell Madonna's the truth, and if she listens to them.

by Anonymousreply 69June 12, 2019 2:08 AM

The problem is the prices - I mean Lady Gaga is in Vegas this fall, to get anywhere near to see her in somewhat regular size is close to 1200 dollars a person. 357 dollars to see Madonna - is asking a lot.

by Anonymousreply 70June 12, 2019 2:08 AM

I believe she's at a point in her life where she gives zero fucks. She's going to do the music and tours she wants to do even if it alienates her fans.

by Anonymousreply 71June 12, 2019 2:10 AM

People who actually give zero fucks would not whine about feeling raped when they don't like the interviews about them in the NY Times.

by Anonymousreply 72June 12, 2019 2:12 AM

r70 What are you talking about. On Stubhub you can get $500 tickets to see Gaga in Vegas in the closest sections to the stage for any of her shows.

by Anonymousreply 73June 12, 2019 2:13 AM

by Anonymousreply 74June 12, 2019 2:14 AM

[quote]unable to sell out small theaters? wasn't she selling out arenas - even stadiums in just a few minutes just a few years ago? or maybe it was just the scalpers buying them ?

They struggled to sell tickets for her last tour. People reported that they went to venues where only half the venue was full. She has a clause in her contract that she will play to 100% seating capacity. Live Nation also has exclusive contracts with all of the venues she plays. She knows her days of being a big touring force are over. Live Nation wouldn't allow her to fly her set from venue to venue for the Rebel Heart Tour and forced her to bus it. Since the Sticky and Sweet Tour in 2009, which she extended a year, each tour has sold less than the previous. It's also not shocking that she started struggling selling out right when her music career went off the tracks in not just the US but the entire world. She hasn't had a hit in a decade. People know she's determined to play the majority of her latest material and when said material is not connecting with the public they're not going to pay to see it. If she did a Greatest Hits tour it would sell out in no time. However even that may be in question now as her performance skills are pretty lackluster. You almost want to beg her to lipsync. She simply takes herself way too seriously, and people are turned off by what comes out of her mouth. Her fan base which has shrunk considerably is also much, much older and not all of them feel up to going to tours. They're not kids anymore. They also don't have the disposable income they once had. Madonna lives in a bubble. She suffers from poor management and people indulging her delusions.

What people are paying to see in this upcoming disaster is basically Madonna sitting and playing a guitar. Madonna without all the props and dancers is not something you want to see. In her mind she's the main attraction and can sing and tell jokes. She really doesn't know her extreme limitations.

by Anonymousreply 76June 12, 2019 2:15 AM

[quote]On Stubhub you can get $500 tickets to see Gaga in Vegas in the closest sections to the stage for any of her shows.

You do know that Gaga's entire residency sold out in just minutes right? That's extreme even for Vegas where people buy tickets at the last minute, too. Gaga is hitting another peak. To compare Madonna to her is just unfair to Madonna.

by Anonymousreply 77June 12, 2019 2:16 AM

Oh, and Gaga added dates when the entire thing was sold out for the year. Meant to add that.

by Anonymousreply 78June 12, 2019 2:17 AM

[quote]I believe she's at a point in her life where she gives zero fucks.

Oh, please, her ego is extremely fragile. Believe me, she cares. She has nothing else going on in her life. It's always about being on top. She'd sell her soul for it.

by Anonymousreply 79June 12, 2019 2:18 AM

R9, I love you.

by Anonymousreply 80June 12, 2019 2:18 AM

r78 Gaga is doing very well right now but she is doing a Vegas residency in her prime. Of course it will sell well. I'm surprised General Admission tickets (directly in front of the stage) are being resold for only around $500 on Stubhub for most dates. It seems like her fans don't really care to be close to her LOL

by Anonymousreply 81June 12, 2019 2:20 AM

These stories are incorrect about her tickets sales. The concerts are selling out. The tickets available on Ticketmaster are “verified re-sale tickets” which means those seats are sold and an individual has put them up for resale to make $$$ of them.

by Anonymousreply 82June 12, 2019 2:22 AM

r79 I'm sure she cares, but it doesn't affect her bank account. She will make a ton of $ from this tour.

by Anonymousreply 83June 12, 2019 2:22 AM

I don't hate her like many of you angry queens do.

But I also don't worship her like she's some sort of goddess, either.

She hasn't made anything decent or even fun since the Ray of Light/Music period, and that was 20 years ago now.

I have zero interest in paying for a show when she isn't even going to bother with the 80s/90s stuff that made her popular and wants to only perform the recent, self-indulgent shit no one knows.

And she doesn't even sing live???

Fuck. That. I'll stay at home and listen to Like a Prayer and Ray of Light and pretend she hasn't become a sad joke.

Honey, as one fan just wrote on popjustice, they put themselves into her ticket lottery system and said they were willing to pay up to $395. r101 is seeeeeeeeething with jealousy.

by Anonymousreply 102June 12, 2019 3:09 AM

R93 “Repulsive” or not he’s got more talent in one sausage finger than Madonna’s got in her whole body.

by Anonymousreply 103June 12, 2019 3:12 AM

Of course all this "negative press" came courtesy of Madonna's team in an effort to boost sales. And apparently, it's working. Never doubt the Queen of publicity!

by Anonymousreply 104June 12, 2019 3:13 AM

r103 Madonna puts on a terrific show. Elton is a blob sat on by a piano warbling Hallmark sentiments to Marilyn Monroe.

by Anonymousreply 105June 12, 2019 3:15 AM

r100 = Elisabeth Hasselbeck

by Anonymousreply 106June 12, 2019 3:15 AM

R105, her dancers and directive creator put on the show. She walks around the stage and pretends to sing.. I saw that Bilboard music awards performance. However when you can play your chosen instrument and have a catalog of hits to last a lifetime you don’t need the gimmicks.

by Anonymousreply 107June 12, 2019 3:18 AM

I hardly think what Madonna has done to herself qualifies as "Fighting The Patriarchy", R52. She has been their faithful handmaiden.

by Anonymousreply 108June 12, 2019 3:19 AM

i've been saying that the theater tour was a result of lack of interest since she announced it. The Madonna troll has been confident that all the shows were sold out and these were very limited shows and Madonna would be embarking on a stadium tour in 2020, yet here we are. Madonna cannot sell out 1800 seat theaters.

by Anonymousreply 109June 12, 2019 3:20 AM

r107 Her chosen instrument is her catalogue of blockbuster hit singles, her talent for visual aesthetics and countless groundbreaking music videos. Eltard eats scones and sits by a piano squealing out mediocre songs.

by Anonymousreply 110June 12, 2019 3:23 AM

Box office poison! Box office poison!

Mercy, fetch me... THE AXE!

by Anonymousreply 111June 12, 2019 3:23 AM

These pieces of shit have some goddamed nerve charging those prices. Holy fuck, it's not like she's gonna blow you up there in the balcony.

I don't care about Madonna one way or the other. But those prices make me sick to my stomach.

by Anonymousreply 112June 12, 2019 3:25 AM

r110. She doesn't even do half the hits in concert. She's deluded enough to think that people want to hear her new stuff. Unlike Madonna Elton's never had trouble selling his tickets.

You think she directed those videos? LMFAO. That's not her talent, dear.

by Anonymousreply 113June 12, 2019 3:26 AM

its the stadium shows that are fab, where she can gonzo and put on the huge effects n shit.

who wants club shows? for too hi prices.

pass

by Anonymousreply 114June 12, 2019 3:27 AM

You clowns are playing into Madonna's game. These shows will be sold out due to this media attention. The Vegas & Chicago shows are nearly sold out.

by Anonymousreply 115June 12, 2019 3:27 AM

The cheapest seats in Boston are now around $250. No thank you.

by Anonymousreply 116June 12, 2019 3:28 AM

Uh, not a Madonna vocalist defender, but Bruce Springsteen always sounds like he's taking a shit when he's singing.

I'm glad the egomaniac is finally getting a rude awakening. The only thing people want to hear is her 80s and 90s stuff. She is no longer relevant. If Eve Plumb can finally embrace the nostalgia, then so should Madame X.

by Anonymousreply 117June 12, 2019 3:29 AM

r113 Elton is smart enough to build shows around his hits from decades ago. Unlike Madonna & other true artists, he doesn't take risks... every Elton John tour is a greatest hits tour.

by Anonymousreply 118June 12, 2019 3:30 AM

r116 Madonna doesn't want poors at her show. It brings the mood down.

by Anonymousreply 119June 12, 2019 3:31 AM

by Anonymousreply 122June 12, 2019 3:37 AM

r118, filing up her shows with songs that nobody wants to hear makes her a "true artist"? oh now I've heard it all. lol.

It's commonplace for artists to sing their hits as well as their new material. When I saw Elton in 2016 he performed a few songs from his latest album but he also played what people came for. He doesn't take pleasure from fucking his fans over like Madge does. He's on time too.

by Anonymousreply 123June 12, 2019 3:37 AM

hundreds and hundreds and hundreds of tickets available. Any night, any city.

by Anonymousreply 124June 12, 2019 3:41 AM

R123, the problem is Madonna sings her entire new album, does Holiday, La Isla Bonita and Music and then calls it a night. She's not just singing 3 or 4 new songs and doing the Immaculate Collection.

by Anonymousreply 125June 12, 2019 3:41 AM

I wouldn’t pay those prices to see her at her peak. It shows just how far removed she is from reality (does she think all of her fans are 1%ers?!)

by Anonymousreply 126June 12, 2019 3:43 AM

I feel like there's no noise around the new album. 5 singles and no real buzz. I keep forgetting the album comes out this friday. That and she needs to grow with her music and stop trying to do Erotica 2.

by Anonymousreply 127June 12, 2019 3:43 AM

the Madonna troll was saying on this tour she wouldn't be playing any old songs, only songs from the new album, and the shows would be 1 hour long....1 hour.

by Anonymousreply 128June 12, 2019 3:43 AM

I think many of her fans are going to see Queen Bey. The greatest live performer of all time.

by Anonymousreply 129June 12, 2019 3:44 AM

I am rolling my body like an eye at R129.

by Anonymousreply 130June 12, 2019 3:46 AM

r125, Exactly. She's delusional as hell if she thinks people want to hear that shit.

by Anonymousreply 131June 12, 2019 3:46 AM

r123 Elton's last top 10 hit was in 1997. Absolutely nobody is paying to hear his new music. His customer is widowed frau, sipping cheap margaritas with her fellow handicapped group home pals, working through bucket lists, there to hear musical masterworks such as Crocodile Rock.

by Anonymousreply 132June 12, 2019 3:49 AM

I think the problem seems from a very key reason. Madonna is best in the studio when working one on one with one or a couple of well versed producers. If this album is to make a statement and go on a whole new direction what better way to ensure that than work with Orbit or Leonard again? Her best work came courtesy of these gentleman. There are other very talented producers who would love to work with her.

The five leaks so far are underwhelming at best. Her vocals are overpriced and there's no melody or hook within the songs. I just can't get into the rapping or hip hop persona. It didn't work for Hard Candy and it doesn't work no w. It comes across as vapid and desperate. although I know there may be better material yet to be hear d when the album drops a strong lead single is always a help. None of these five songs have been that lead single. It's unfortunate but it's true.

She is working with some pretty horrid guys for this release. It's just awful. I don't understand why or how she saw this as a good move. And what do you know neither do many others.

by Anonymousreply 133June 12, 2019 3:50 AM

r130, I have a friend who dragged her middle aged orthodox jewish parents to a Beyonce concert. They said it was like nothing they've ever experienced. It was like watching MJ moonwalk for the first time on television. They were that blown away.

by Anonymousreply 134June 12, 2019 3:50 AM

looks like she might be scrapping some of the new york shows

by Anonymousreply 135June 12, 2019 3:52 AM

r132, Madonna's last top 10 ( not counting the nicki minaj single that doesn't count) was in 2008. And it only barely made a blip on billboard because of Justin Timberlake.

Madonna's audience is 40-50 something fraus that want to relive their youth. not to mention the delusiona 40-50 somthingl gays that think she's Elvis with a vagina. Her audience is the same one NKOTB attracts.

by Anonymousreply 136June 12, 2019 3:53 AM

Exactly, r136; she is a nostalgia act. No one wants to pay hundreds of dollars to watch a 60-year-old trying to make the kind of splash she did 30 years ago with substandard new music.. Just do a greatest hits tour, already.

by Anonymousreply 137June 12, 2019 3:59 AM

Madonna already reunited with Orbit and it wasn't the same (though it seems more because of Madonna because she was preoccupied with her gyms and skin creams to make music).

by Anonymousreply 138June 12, 2019 4:13 AM

Of course all of these shows will sell out by the fall. You'll see(the).

by Anonymousreply 139June 12, 2019 5:40 AM

I'm not holding my breath, r139.

by Anonymousreply 140June 12, 2019 5:43 AM

by Anonymousreply 143June 12, 2019 5:45 AM

Wait till the paper mache Stonehenge lowers down on to the stage, that'll sell tickets.

by Anonymousreply 144June 12, 2019 6:05 AM

The prices are too high. She can't command these high prices any more.

It's sad though. I'm a lifelong Madonna fan and for a long time she was untouchable touring-wise. But it seems that is over for her too.

Madame X is good though.

by Anonymousreply 145June 12, 2019 6:07 AM

Madonna needs to stop living in the past.

Madonna needs to stop living.

by Anonymousreply 146June 12, 2019 6:08 AM

by Anonymousreply 152June 12, 2019 9:05 AM

In that New York Times interview that she hated so much the interviewer asked her how she felt when she heard her old hits. Madonna said “If I’m in a car or I go into a restaurant, I’m out somewhere, and one of my songs starts playing, I just go, ‘Ugh,’ ” she said, “probably because I’ve had to hear it five billion times already, and I want to escape that.”

So that's what she said... Hearing her old music makes her go UGH! and she wants to escape it. I know she really hates the "Material Girl" song. That was my favorite Madonna song when I was a kid. I bet she really hates those old catchy 80's and 90's dance hits. Maybe she's even embarrassed by her old 80's songs. I think she outgrew her own music.

by Anonymousreply 153June 12, 2019 9:07 AM

I'm a mid fifties eldergay - and madonna was part of my twenties - and we all loved her. And she endured for ages! There was Lots of love for her in fact - until quite recently.

It's the social media stuff. She's painful! Not brilliant and clever - just a bit crazy and desperate - as well as very entitled and super rich - and she feels like an embarrassment now. Really - if she stayed away from overexposure on social media - there maybe might be some mystique? But now - it's like watching Mae West or something. And her current crop of 'looks' are painful. Get a decent stylist, dump the sycophants who tell you you're always fabulous - and maybe - just retire? Please.

What is going on with the tiara, eye patch, suit of armor, loads of rings on short fingers (my fingers are kind of short, too, that’s why I don’t wear rings like that). Not saying she needs to wear jeans, sit on a stool in front of a mike stand, and perform “unplugged,” but she needs to reevaluate. Get back to basics. This is ridiculous.

Her performance at Eurovision was cringe worthy and embarrassing.

by Anonymousreply 165June 12, 2019 11:01 AM

[quote]I think she will swallow her pride and do a Las Vegas residency after this tour.

It's been evident for thirty years she'll do absolutely anything to get attention. And I suspect swallowing is reasonably easy for her.

by Anonymousreply 166June 12, 2019 11:17 AM

Although no where near dirt cheap, her ticket prices have already taken a hit. They've gone down substantially to the lowest being $200 - $300. Still a lot but they will most likely keep dropping as it gets closer. It's amazing she went from one of the biggest grossing tours of all time a decade ago to this. There's reason after reason but I believe the biggest one being the music. She just can't seem to make GOOD music (or refuses to?). This new stuff is just terrible on every level. I think the last amazing song she had was"Give It To Me". Anyway, it'll be interesting to see if they try to market this tour with hits now.

The new album is fantastic. This is a different venture for her and probably not to the GP's liking, but oh well. She loves to perform and always delivers.

by Anonymousreply 169June 12, 2019 12:26 PM

R83, so people are speculating that they'll make money on the resale but that only works if the tickets re-sell. Is the profit actually there? Are people actually showing up? Are these just ending up as giveaways from local radio stations and hotels?

by Anonymousreply 180June 12, 2019 2:08 PM

Not a fan but if it's true that she's "devastated" over this, then that's actually a little sad tbh. I don't mean "sad" in the snarky way either, just sad-sad (as Whoopi would say). It strikes me as sad for someone to be 60 and still so thirsty. People always talk about endless drive and ambition like it's a good thing, but apparently it can backfire as well.

(Then I remember what a raging bitch Madonna is and the sympathy for her is short-lived)

by Anonymousreply 181June 12, 2019 2:11 PM

I am no particular fan of Madonna, but these Madonna bashing threads are boring.

by Anonymousreply 188June 12, 2019 3:58 PM

Well, Taylor Swift's tickets sold very slowly, and many of the tickets were given away for free. She had a clause in her contract that called for "papering" the stadium with free tickets so large sections weren't left empty. The city of San Francisco even sued the stadium because they lost money on her concert. Beyonce and Jay-Z did the same thing, since their tickets sold slowly too.

by Anonymousreply 189June 12, 2019 4:25 PM

So, the Madonna troll was shrieking that all of the MADAME X shows were instant sell-outs, which caused more shows to be added.

R76, I attended one of the Rebel Heart shows in the US and if it wasn’t a sell out, it was very damn close to being one. Those reports of hundreds or thousands of empty seats a night during the tour are outright lies by you or someone else.

I just checked Ticketmaster for one of the Wednesday shows and other than high priced VIP tickets or Official Platinum (fan club) tickets, I found a whopping 2 tickets for sale which were not resale tickets. The vast majority of tickets being sold are now resale tickets which somebody bought for whatever reason. The VIP tickets will eventually sell as will the others during the next few months. This tour will sell out, like all of previous ones, even if it takes a little longer to sell them.

Buy MADAME X in the Deluxe format as the two extra songs are excellent: "Looking For Mercy" and "Extreme Occident"!

You rich gays should be supporting your Queen.

She stood by you in the '80s and '90s.

Ditched you for that homophobe Guy Ritchie. But y'all know what the dick can do to your brain.

Uncut's review of Madame eXLax

[quote]What does Madame X, her 14th album, add to the Madonna story? A relocation to Lisbon, a rekindled love of Latin musics, and, on “Killers Who Are Partying”, a new identification with the wretched of the Earth: “I’ll be Africa, if Africa is shot down…”. For all its excursions into dancehall and fado, it’s no advance on 2014’s Rebel Heart: there’s the same sense of chasing trends and an increasingly cringey woke turn – on the portentous, batshit “Dark Ballet” she berates the sheeple of the west: “Can’t you hear outside of your Supreme hoodies?/The wind is beginning to howl.” It howls for thee, Madge. 5 out of 10

by Anonymousreply 240June 13, 2019 4:56 AM

I'm watching W.E. for the first time tonight. Wish me luck boys!

by Anonymousreply 241June 13, 2019 5:23 AM

She needs a hit, plain and simple. Nothing memorable in 19 years. Pop and ballads are her thing. Not EDM, hip hop or dance music

by Anonymousreply 242June 13, 2019 5:33 AM

She's not getting a hit at 60.

by Anonymousreply 243June 13, 2019 5:35 AM

If she would set up in Vegas and perform the old stuff, that people actually know and like, she’s make a billion dollars.

I guess I respect her for sticking to what she believes in but I think it’s stupid she doesn’t embrace her history and ride that.

She’d probably even gain new fans exposed to her classics. She sure isn’t getting new fans with her attempt to be current.

by Anonymousreply 244June 13, 2019 5:38 AM

who would have thought Britney would have a vegas residency before madonna, pop music is too competitive. MADAME X is super autotuned and pretentious btw.

by Anonymousreply 248June 13, 2019 12:17 PM

So here's what you do, Madge baby: kick ass at every show, sing live in the audience and grind on some 'friend' in the front row while belting out some of your old standards. Mix it up and show your work.

I like a tired old rock star only if they don't have fucks to give. Devastated? Bitch, we should be hearing about your kick ass dance workouts to get into form, a' la Jagger.

Do it, bitch, do it.

by Anonymousreply 249June 13, 2019 12:21 PM

I am tired of all the Madonna negativity. I am no where near a Superfan but have seen her live twice. A smaller show in GAY Astoria which was fun and better than the bigger show. The hate is so severe and unreasonable.

by Anonymousreply 250June 13, 2019 12:34 PM

Like Wonder Woman, maybe Madame X can turn a hawk into a dove.

Give MADAME X a chance: it's a fantastic album!

All of the songs will sound terrific on the MADAME X tour.

by Anonymousreply 251June 13, 2019 12:39 PM

Reminds me of the late 90s when Savage Garden was in Chicago and they were selling out and it was big news, at least for gays.

Then less than 5 years later, Darren Hayes is singing in Starbucks for 25 irritated people who would rather be drinking their coffee in silence.

(I like Hayes, he's good but he couldn't last).

by Anonymousreply 252June 13, 2019 12:50 PM

It's her ego and status, dear R250. I love the bitch, grew up with her and wish her the best. Sadly, she's in a profession where people just love to knock you down off that pedestal. It's as if it's required, like so and so is the 'new Madonna' when it's just as easy to allow an artist to stand on their own merits.

Reductive is a word for cunty media critics, not artists like herself. All artists steal from each other, get influenced by each other, and so was she, and in her turn influencing others. Sometimes her ego gets out of the way and she admits it. Other times she's not that graceful around it.

by Anonymousreply 253June 13, 2019 12:55 PM

CRAVE is a HIT:

"'Crave' took me a few listens, but now it's stuck in my head," says Brian Demay, pd of Cumulus-owned WRRM Cincinnati, who notes that the station is playing the Madonna-solo version "only because our listeners don't know who Swae Lee is.

"This song is legit. It's not campy or nostalgic. It sounds like 2019. Madonna has reinvented her sound yet again."

"'Crave' sounds great on the air," Boldon echoes. "You don't have to sell it as 'new Madonna.' It stands on its own as simply 'cool new music.' "

Billboard is blatantly lying. It's 100% damage control her people had them post. The interest just isn't there to see her new music or pay a ton for a boring theatre. She'd do well if she did a Re-Invention Tour type show. Plenty of hits that sound fresh with a good portion of new music sprinkled throughout. Everyone's happy.

Madonna will never look back. Her ego won't let her.

Her Rebel Heart tour was very good and the best moments (True Blue, Deeper and Deeper, Like a Virgin, Material Girl) were the classics.

She and Guy Oseary could embark on an incredible reissue campaign like Bowie did before he died (and is continuing after his death) with beautiful box sets commemorating different phases of his career. Or Paul McCartney has been doing with his post-Beatles work.

Madonna could have an incredible exhibition like Bowie did a few years before his death. If you saw the Bowie exhibit, it was FUCKING incredible and not once did it feel like he was some kind of has-been. It was an amazing look back at his career but also a way to celebrate it and how resonant his work still is. I think the same could work for Madonna but it won't happen (and it will never be on the same scale as Bowie's).

She also has a number of tours never released on DVD or Blu-ray (Virgin Tour, Blond Ambition, Reinvention).

by Anonymousreply 265June 14, 2019 2:14 AM

Madonna 'looks back' all the time now. The woman did 1 tour in 2001 where she 'didn't look back' (still did 2 80's songs) and her fans act like that is the standard. All her tours and shows since have been flooded with old songs. She has done almost all of them at this point. She even celebrated the 30th anniversary of Like A Prayer recently...something unimaginable 15 years ago. This Madonna people speak of is a myth at this point.

by Anonymousreply 266June 14, 2019 2:32 AM

Her shows are not "flooded" with old songs.

The ratio is half new album, half classics and/or oldies.

by Anonymousreply 267June 14, 2019 2:35 AM

R265 Now would be the perfect time for a box set of demos and unreleased early songs that you know will eventually be released, which could easily fill four discs.

It will likely be produced after she dies and someone else is cashing in on the estate, much like what is going on with Prince right now.

by Anonymousreply 268June 14, 2019 3:00 AM

R267 So, once again, she looks back A LOT. You're Drowned World fantasy is dead and was dead in 2001. She already teased like a prayer (and performed it), like a virgin, human nature, frozen and several others this era alone...and the tour is 3 months away lol. She's the look back queen now.

by Anonymousreply 269June 14, 2019 3:01 AM

R269 are you a grown man typing lol?

by Anonymousreply 270June 14, 2019 3:08 AM

This is a perfect storm of weak interest matched with an ever evolving approach to ticket sales. And the sad thing is that madonna actually did everything right here in order to get the tickets to her fans and all that discussion about how ticket sales are weak will end up preventing other artists from following a similar path.

Every single seat is going to be filled by a paying customer on the night of the concert so the fact that it takes longer to sell out is no biggie. Before it was scalpers and ticket resellers who would help concert sell out in 15 minutes. Here it was a complicated lottery process and you had to be signed up with Madonnas website in order to get first crack at tickets. And my guess is many of her fans in the over 50 range aren’t on her mailing list and had no idea the ticket lottery was happening. And there was very little $$ spent to promote it since it was assumed the mailing list lottery would sell most of the tickets.

Madonna's a no show so no shows in Boston this weekend.

"Doctors orders."

"Doing my show every night brings me so much joy and to cancel is a kind of punishment for me, but the pain I’m in right now is overwhelming and I must rest and follow doctor’s orders so I can come back stronger and better and continue the Madame X journey with all of you."

Well, not all of you...

"Citing "tight scheduling" through the end of the year, the Boston shows will not be rescheduled and refunds will be automatically issued."
