Justice League bombed but I don't think it's really Cavill or Affleck's fault. The DC films are just not as good as the Marvel ones (save for Wonder Woman and maybe Aquaman). They plan to make their focus the cheaper-to-produce fare starring less pricey but still recognizable talent, with an emphasis on 'popular' viewing rather than prestige dramas (step right up Ms. Cavill!).

This is absolutely correct. Anyone claiming Cavill's future will be playing side character roles at The CW à la Brandon Routh is being ridiculous. Routh was never anywhere close to being as successful as Cavill. Cavill's career is that of a solid Hollywood B-lister who's quite close to being an A-lister, whether you like it or not. If he doesn't get any more film work he'll always have high-end tv work waiting for him. I suspect he'll end up finding his own film franchise at some point (à la Tom Cruise with Mission Impossibles) and will do just fine on the big screen as well.

He's one of the most gorgeous male film stars in Hollywood right now, and he can act even if he's not the most versatile thespian out there. I can't see him flaming out soon given his commitment to his physical shape and looks, which face it are his career calling card at least at the moment. I can't see him going off the rails a la Affleck or Depp, he seems too structured and focused, health-wise and financially. He'll be around working for a while - how his career will shake out over the next decade though will be interesting. The one criticism aimed at him that may have some merit is his lack of focus in role choice; he isn't the hardest working actor out there in terms of taking a wider range of roles.
