Because he's a Dick (York).
Actually, I loved him as Darren. It was the second actor I never cared for personally.

Here's a good E! True Hollywood Story about Bewitched.
York sustained an injury while filming a western 4 years before Bewitched and often slurred his speech as a result of the pain medication he took.
